I purchased this as a second drive in my HP A6619F computer, install went smooth and no problems with Vista (64 bit) OS configuring it. Just so you know, this is an OEM drive, no hardware (mounting screws), cables or WD software so plan ahead when you buy this. Great drive for the money with excellant performance!! |

I came from an older Seagate 7200.9 drive that sounded like automatic machine gun when it was reading and writing and I must say that the sound levels on this drive are much much better. It's not perfectly quiet but it definitely is much quieter than previous enthusiast HDD's I've used.The speed is also quite nice. It's up there for fastest consumer drives. Some reviews have reported that it even outpaces the new Velociraptors in some tests. Can't complain about that! 32MB cache is also as big as it gets right now so that's always a plus.If I had to pick one negative it would be that the 640GB model is usually only 5-10 dollars more when they're on sale. For an extra 140GB of storage space, why not shell out that little bit extra?Overall, I'm happy with the drive. Let's hope I never have to use the 5 year warranty. |

I did quite a bit of research before buying this, and the sale price was nice too. Dual-processor? What does that really mean. After all, it's just one hard drive, one serial cable, so what will it do. After using it, I still don't know.It doesn't seem faster than my other drive, same sata-2 setup, no significant change at all. After installing it I ran some speed tests, and it was comparable to others, even a little slower than its own specs. Though that is not uncommon.After using it for 2 months now, I can say it's about the same as any other drive. The dual-proc seems to make no difference. It actually seems just slightly slower than my old drive when loading a directory of say 1000 folders and files.It is louder when seeking than other drives I have and have used, but this is not a significant noise difference.The 5 year warranty is the main reason I purchased it. Alone it is a good reason to purchase this drive, and overall it is better than some less 'quality' brands and models.I would put this in a tie with the Seagate higher-end/5yr models. I have always liked WD, and have had very few failures with their drives - I hope that trend continues. |

Good drive, i bought 2 of these to replace a few of my aging seagate 500gb ns drives. These are just as fast! Glad to see WD has finally boosted their cache size to 32mb from their weak 16mb when i bought my seagate ns drives. I love the fact they have dual processors. Random access times seem to be faster. good value for the money!!
