Bought one of these drives on sale to replace the aging Seagate 160Gig SATA drive used as a boot drive in my Win7 desktop. Seems a little faster on boot up and definitely faster when accessing large video files. Much slower than the Runcore SSD in my netbook but then it is 10x the capacity and only half the price! |

I bought one of these on sale a while back for under 60 bucks purely for backup and file storage. Bigger ones are available, of course, but I just don't need that much capacity. On the other hand, I just bought a second one, also on sale. One can never have too much storage capacity? I guess buying two is an endorsement in itself.I can't say that I'll ever need the additional warranty that the blacks offer (hope not), but that was the primary reason I chose this make and model. The drive seems fast enough, but I don't have any good way of comparing it objectively. It also seems quiet enough, but I'm also not a silent PC kinda guy, so my standards aren't terribly high in that regard. I've heard that they run hot, but I have a 120mm fan blowing across my drive cage, so I'm not concerned. It works for my Raptor, so it should work for this.Can I recommend it? Well, like I said, I recently bought a second, so there you go. |

These are curretly one of the best cost effective hard drives in the market right now...I have had mine for over a year and have used it extensively in video editing and other hard drive intensive applications and it is still running fine. Sure the price is a little more per gigabyte but that is a small price to pay for reliability and performance. I recommend these drives to everyone the moment HDD's come into the conversation. |

I replaced an IDE hard drive and of course the speed is awesome. I have a dual core 3.0g processor and with these hard drives Outlook opens in less than 1 second. Photoshop CS3 only takes 2.5 seconds to open. I can't scroll down fast enough to watch any number of thumbnails load in a folder, it's used to be a little cumbersome. I have two of these hooked up in a raid configuration and so far they work great. |

I have been a big fan of WD for a long time but are not the only one's I use. The majority of these drives last a long time provided there's proper cooling, that being said IMO every manufacturer has some good and some bad, this is from experience of building many systems (lost count). Sorry I didn't order more while on sale. |

Snagged 2 of these on a sale h about $53 ea. which made me smile! Using one for backup and one for Win7 Ultimate. The 5yr man. warranty is great (I've never had a HDD fail mechanically!) and combined with a Thermaltake USB dock, I can swap my 500GB between my mediacenter, server and gaming rig for all sorts of nerdy fun! NCIX prices ftw.
