The hard drive also has a large cache which helps keep it at a high performance point. It has been a very reliable drive and has had no hiccups.

Easy to install and nice fast performance compared to older drives. Also after seagate discontinued their 5 year warranty I had to find a new one and it just so happens these are also very fast + 5 year warranty.

Faster than all of my seagates and other WD drives.I've had a few WD drives fail on me before, but they were promptly replaced. I highly recommend WD products.

Jacques_L@NCIX Rating: Review Date: 08/08/09	Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive Cons:-none Pros:+ 5 years warranty (3 years is now more common)+ 32 mb cache Comment: Compared to my previous Maxtor 300gb IDE/ATA, it is light years in advance...speedy, almost silent, great transfer speed (about 60mb/s most of the time).With its five years warranty, WD seems to have great confidence in the durability of this product compared to most others 3 years warranty.Temperature is below 30c most of the time in my Antec 902.And yes you can hear it some times, but it is very "mild".Unfortunately, I don't have any other recent HDD from other manufacturer to compare it with.I have chosen this WD hard drive, mainly because of Seagate recent firmware debacle and their lower warranty.

Nothing you can do about that though. Pros:Fast speeds, reasonable cost, 5 year warranty. Flawless operation. No bad sectors. Perfectly healthy hard drive. Comment: I haven't had a new hard drive for a few years, but after one failure from another manufacturer (the famous firmware problem), I'm going with WD.Windows 7 score is only 5.9 and that is the case with most hard SATA drives, even ssd drives are barely getting near 7.0 this area needs some attention I think.

Comment: The Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200rpm 32MB hard drive is a well pried and highly performing product. It offers exceptional transfer rates, good storage capacity for the price, and very good noise levels. It is nearly dead silent in my Antec P182 case. Could not be happier.

It is louder than my 4 year old WD Caviar SE it replaced. If you care mainly about performance go for it, but if you want to build a quiet PC I would look at other drives.

I have some Seagate 7200.12 1TB drives and they seemed slightly quieter I suppose but honestly they are all quiet enough.HD Tach only gave me ~12.1ms and I expected about ~11.7ms but other then that the drive was right where I expected it to be.I haven't had a WD drive fail within the last 10 years and trust them more then any other company for desktop drives. Very happy with the speed this gives this system for the price paid.

Seriously its a great drive got it for $69.99 on sale well worth it at that price. Comment: I don't understand who thinks this thing is noisey? I can't hear it in my CM690. Maybe if you put your ear right up to it then yes your going to hear it. Great drive fast and reliable. Going to get another for raid 0. Just remember kiddies all you get is the drive nothing else! well some bubble wrap to play with but nothing else!
