Comment: This hard drive has excellent transfers speeds and I havn't had any issues with it. Like with other Western Digital products its been rock solid.

Pros:Some are comparing this drive to the "Blue" WD6400AAKS, and though they are the same size there are differences. The Blue has 16MB cache vs. 32MB. In real life this actually doesn't make a big difference by itself. What the Black gives you to go along with double the cache is two microprocessors instead of one. The Black also has two motor mounts for stability, one on each end of the shaft, whereas the Blue has only one. All in all the differences in performance aren't going to be earth shattering for most every day use. Large transfers and mixed file access will favor the Black, but it isn't by a huge amount. Comment: So what does the extra 15 bucks give you? For starters you get 5 years warranty rather than 3. The better construction should translate to longer life, but it is too new to know for sure at this point. If you think a better warranty, bigger cache, dual processors, and sturdier construction, and a little better performance is worth $15 then opt for this drive, otherwise get the WD6400AAKS which is a fine drive on its own merits.

Pros:Cheap (price matched)Great performance Comment: I replaced my main OS drive from a 500GB WD Blue, to this baby. Immeditaly there is a performance increase using this drive.I know Windows Experience not all that great, but my score for HDD went from 5.8 to 5.9.Yeah, yeah not much. Still loading, gaming time has all decrease. Which is great.

Pros:CapacitySpeedPrice w/ pricematchDoesn't seek for long periods of time Comment: I was using a 160GB 7200.11 w/ 8MB cache as an OS drive for the past 3 years and needed another drive for more storage. Picked this one up. It's definitely faster but it's also twice as loud too. I have yet to get used to it and probably wont. It's the loudest thing in my case now.My two 500GB 7200.12's get the job done just as good as this drive does as well.

Pros:-Good Speed & Performance-Large Cache-Lot's of new technology Comment: The rating in Windows 7 is 5.9 which is good, an SSD is about 7.5 so it makes sense. I was quite pleased that this hard drive performs similar to a 10K RPM hard drive at a way lower price and way higher storage capacity. I wish it had the 64MB of cache that the 2TB edition has but, 32 is sufficient. Games and applications load up quick and the technology is implemented well, can't wait for WD's next Hard Drive breakthrough. Price is high but it's worth it.

Comment: I purchased a WD Caviar Black 640gb after my old Seagate 7200.10 started dying.My first impression is that this drive is very, very fast - it immediately cut the boot time of my system (Ubuntu 9.10) by about 40%. Additionally, large applications (OpenOffice in particular) load much quicker.On the downside, this drive is noisier than my old Seagate 7200.10 80GB drive. I wouldn't call it extremely loud, but it is definitely louder than the average drive. That said, it's a tradeoff I am happy to make.

Being the WD black I recommend it as your primary OS drive to the speed, but at 640GB it can do some initial storage for you until you bulk up your data space. 5 year warranty is great but remember, that isn't an excuse to not backup your data!
