Faster load occasions than anything at all I've had before, 64mb cache, quiet and cool operating, excellent value. I use it for FSX and the sim loads itself and terrain textures smoothly and speedily. I only purchased one. Should remedy that and run WIN7 on a single of these. Absolutely not the largest and baddest HD around, but for the price/performance 1 gets, it's a very good acquire. Possibly noteworthy, only FSX is utilized on my technique. Which is...W7-64bit, Asus M4A89GTD Pro, Gigabyte 460GTX, AMD 955BEʃ.6ghz, 4GB Mushkin, and a complete lot of Flight Sim controlling hardware.

The hardrive is really quickly. Loads my OS in half the time as my old one. This hardrive is really loud. Anytime you do one thing on your pc such as opening a system or accessing a file the drive clicks definitely loud. It tends to make me consider I have a computer from 1999. Make it quieter and this drive would be amazing.

Works as you'd expect Purchased 2 for RAID. After a handful of minutes in the machine it started receiving Wise errors and died. As generally, Newegg's best notch customer service came through with a replacement. Both drives function rather nicely.I have an open air case and it seems that these drives make a bit much more noise when looking for than earlier drives I've had. May just be me, even though.

Good drive. Worked perfectly (OEM). Took Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no challenge. Drive is a tiny noisy. Not intense, but a tiny additional noise than I anticipated from a WD Caviar Black SATA. Provides me a slight pause as to the drives life span. Hopefully this drive will last a extended time without having any troubles.

Seems like a solid, nicely constructed drive, sata6gb not large improvement over sata3gb, running os off an ssd and other programs and games off this and it operates fine only 640gb so I'll need to get one more difficult drive ultimately Favor WD difficult drive for their reliability

Quiet, Cool, and Quick! I bought this as an operating system drive for my gaming Pc last summer season. I bought it because it has SATA6 and a huge cache and wasn't considerably additional high-priced than the SATA 3.0Gb/s version. It boots up and loads programs more quickly than any other tricky drive I've ever used. It isn't an SSD, but it is significant enough to shop an OS, a lot of games, all your apps, and far more. I have a dual-boot configuration set up as properly as a number of other operating systems in VirtualBox and nonetheless have plenty of space left. It isn't an SSD so it isn't going to actually saturate the SATA 6.0Gb/s connection for long periods of time. The 64MB cache will take benefit of the SATA6 speeds for short bursts of information but sustained reads and writes will slow down due to reading the magnetic media.640GB isn't enormous, but it is plenty for OS and programs if you shop your media content on another drive. I have a second Computer set up as a home server with three 1.5TB Samsung drives in RAID five. I store all my media (music, films, photos, documents, backups) on it and stream them when required. You don't require the speed of this drive for media content, the speed that this drive supplies is most noticeable when booting or loading big applications which makes it an best OS drive for a gaming or media production Pc.

nicely it works has a nice size catch. This drive score's a low score in windows index experience i would just stick to a 3gb sec Sata drive u will get the similar index score. The drive dose preform a hair far better than a standard 7200 rpm three GB Sata drive but for the price tag i wish i got a bigger 3gb sec Sata drive or a more rapidly 10,000 rpm drive. Only way the windows index is going to move is if the rpm's on the drive do. consequently a ten,000 rpm 3gb Sata drive will out score a 7200rpm 6gbs Sata drive, through windows index experience. this drive was compared to a WD 7200 rpm 3gb Sata drive with 32 MB catch.

This drive is smoking quickly. I almost purchased a raptor but decided to save the hundred bucks and go with this one. So glad I did. Put a fresh install of 7 ultimate 64 and it boots to windows in below 15 seconds. None. If you're debating this drive with other people I would extremely advise this 1.

Quiet, stable, Huge cache. Not any faster than a SATA 3gb/s, benches exact same and widows 7 offers it a 5.9 rating. A lot of critiques say this drive tends to make a clicking noise, I haven't noticed anything at all however...knock on wood.

Drive shows up as 596 GB on Windows 7. Every little thing has been working fine so far, and is more quickly then my 8 year old Maxtor 160 GB drive. Windows Knowledge Index gives this a five.9, my old drive got a 5.five. But we all know that the Windows Encounter Index is the most useless point ever created. This drive is NOT loud like other people have been posting. I can't hear this at all even if I put my head next to my situation, confident I got fans blowing, which is almost certainly drowning out any noise it is developing, but my fans are fairly quiet also. And when I'm gaming/listening to music/watching motion pictures, I don't notice any of that noise. I purchased a 640 GB drive, I only have 596 GB usable. I want my other 44 GB's! My old Maxtor was a 160 GB and I had 150 GB usable. ྪ GB vs 44 GB is a massive distinction). I know that all drive's advertised space is always higher then what you in fact get, but 44GB's is alot of missing space! Upgrading from a 160GB SATA 2 7200RPM 8MB drive to a 640GB SATA three 7200 64MB drive was a big improvement, not only in space, but this drive is surely more rapidly. Plus when I upgrade to sandy bridge in a couple months, it's good to know that my tricky drive will take advantage of SATA three, even tho SATA 2 has however to be taken complete benefit of. Only issue that truly comes close to exceeding SATA 2 speeds are SSD's, and even then they have lots of area to work with. But its nevertheless great to have. :)

No SATA cable, no instructions Went to set up and identified I needed a SATA cable (does not come with one particular) ideal buy wanted ฤ for one but ended up finding one for Ű. Hooked up in box and started program, it would set up automaticlly so I had to come across the set up sheet on the web for it, just use Western digital's support page. Immediately after that it was a breeze and I'm loving the possiblities I now have.

I often use WD drives, I come across them to be the most dependable. I am confident this drive will continue that tradition. Having just develop a new Computer, ASUS Sabertooth MB with 6GB SATA I actually expected this drive to scream... I am not that impressed.. I mean it is still a great drive, but I see no distinction over a 3GB/sec drive. Yes I have it plugged into the 6GB SATA port.Win 7 pro provides it a five.9. An great get at this price in spite of getting somewhat slow in my opinion.

SATA three, 64MB cache. speedy mechanical HDD. None. I know that mechanical HDDs can't compete with SSDs and that the SATA 3, 6 GBPS is overkill (the HDD can't keep up). But the HDD is backwards compatible and can be run on SATA 2 which provides you much more flexibility. This is to be the back-finish of a raided HDD-SDD pair on a Z68 rig. The SDD will act as a cache for the HDD in a raid array trippling or quadrupling access speed. I anticipate that with each the SSD and HDD on SATA 3 along with the 64 MB of cache paired on the HDD this will maximize HDD/SSD pairing throughput. If you're looking for an affordable gaming rig this appears to be an optimal pairing.

WD had been my primary drive source as of recently dur to putting out extremely stable and dependable product that is far superior to the overpriced competitors.

Has superior speed than expected. Excellent value.Pleny of area for me with 640GB. None!!!! I use this Challenging Drive with a Sata 6.0Gb motherboard and I kid you not, I can hardly tell the difference among my SSD in my other computer Ɠ.0Gb motherboard and 3.0Gb SSD), and this Hardrive. If you link this Sata 6.0Gb HD with a Sata 6.0Gb Motherboard, I think you will be extremely impressed with the speed.

Works good, no issues. Wonderful transfer suitable and all about superb for the cost. Finest cache in the price tag range. One more high quality Western Digital drive. A bit loud, but only simply because the case I have it mounted in (Antec 900) has a mesh front, so there's nothing truly between the drive on me. Also, all my other components are insanely quiet, so perhaps that's the only purpose I hear it. I've had excellent experiences from Western Digital in the past, and this was no exception. I place this in my new Pc make, and it's nice that it has the newest SATA 6. Gb/s typical, which my new motherboard has. Truly you'll never ever reach a 6 gb/s transfer rate with a 7200 rpm drive although, so don't let that fool you. 6. Gb/s is the max transfer rate of the connection kind, not the actually transfer rate of the drive.

Wonderful drive especially for the dollars. Is a really quickly drive. I've had truly no issues except for the installation. All of the jumper settings are not shown on the drive making it frustrating to figure out or making it necessary to go on line to get or check for the correct jumper settings for the installation. This is specifically correct when the drive is becoming employed in a pc getting two challenging drives. It would be good if the information furnished on the WDC website was included with the drive.

WD Blacks are some of the fastest platter drives on the marketplace. This model is noticeably louder than the 32MB cache SATA 2 model I bought a year ago. This is about as fast as consumer platter drives get. The subsequent step up is SSD, but the expense per GB isn't where it wants to be however.
