The WD5000AAKX is a dream device come true. Considering that I had the extra bay in my homespun laptop or computer--why not install it. I do not feel the need to justify the installation, except that it compliments my 50 Gig S.S.D. drive and my 500 Gig external backup drive. Incredibly quiet operation, indeed! The old saying goes: "If it spins, it will break", so I bought an extra year of return protection; giving me a total of 4 Ɣ) years of protection. So far, no complaints! None noted. |

It's WD with an SATA III interface. Doesn't serve genuine caviar. Answer for "um wdh" from No on 2ቪ---------------------------------------------Your problem sounds like a SATA speed concern. Don\'t forget that this driver has an SATA III interface and most motherboards don't have an SATA III controller. Jumper pins 5 and 6 to force the drive and to run at SATA II speed Ɠ.0Mbps) and I'll bet your drive will not dissapear from your motherboard any much more. |

Cons:-Mine died after about 3 months of barely any use-WD Green is still overall a lot more storage for the dollar compared to the Blue, even though the Green drives have their own issues.

If prices went back to where they were prior to the Thailand floods, I'd recommend this as a storage drive over the WD Green (which is supposedly plagued with spin-up delays) and the WD Black (overpriced and loud; better 7200rpm drives from other brands can be had for nearly the same or less).Hopefully my defective Blue drive was just bad luck. I've had 4 WD Blacks prior to the Blue and only after 2 years did one of them develop a bad sector issue. |

Stays nice and cool in the external enclosure in the title, quiet too None found, for the price I got it for This was the least expensive drive (in the GB range) on Newegg when I bought it and I matched it with a Rosewill RX35-AT-SC enclosure. The temps remain in the 30's under lengthy load times, which is what I needed for this specific enclosure. Searching at the value now, I'm wondering if 40 bucks was an error... |

Quick even when utilised with a SATA three.0GB connection. Whisper quiet, can't hear it at all through my 3 chassis fans. Loaded Ubuntu to use as a boot drive and took about half as much time as it took on my old PATA drive. Kudos to Newegg for excellent packaging, didn't even upgrade on the shipping and it arrived safe. None. |

Sata three, 7200rpm, wonderful cache, affordable! None! A handful of people have told me shopping for a SATA 3 mechanical drive is useless, but why acquire sata two when its the similar value?!
