For a 500gb harddrive, this is adequate for all your needs. Western Digital has been reliable to me in the past and this is no exception. Definitely recommend

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: -Slow to spin up if you haven't read from the disk in a while

Pros: -Quiet-Fast read times during active use
Comment:
While it's been a decent hard drive, after 3 months it started exhibiting the dreaded Western Digital whine/buzz. Whatever drives the spindles (I'm thinking a motor?) causes a very loud whine whenever it spins up. I ran Western Digital's Data Lifeguard diagnostic tool and the hard drive came up as FAILED. Their warranty covers the shipping for you to send it to them, however this is still a big pain in the butt.

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons: None so far!

Pros: Very affordable at $40, Good for back-up drive, Seems very quite so far.
Comment:
I just wanted to add a cheap back-up drive to my son's Acer comp, which had one 500 gig drive already. Recognized right away once installed and hooked up and I can't hear it, seem fast enough for what he will use it for (back-ups).Would buy again if needed.

Cons: None

Pros: CheapFastReliable
Comment:
I bought this drive for a friend's new build. He needed stability, and WD has a great track record. The blue drive is faster than I thought it would be. I like the 500GB size for a primary drive, and would prefer to use two drives than partition up a single big one.

Pros: Works like a charm in RAID 0CheapReliableCoolDid I mention cheap?
Comment:
I have 4 of these, set in RAID 0 in two computers. One is a Core 2 Duo e8400 Oced on ASUS mobo and the other is a Phenom II 940 Oced on a Gigabyte mobo. They have be working flawlessly...I mean, never had one defect in over 2 years... 24|7... gaming, ftp hosting, folding, etc...My father average 170-190mb sec in bench with is two Caviar black in RAID 0, I do 160-180 with these... so really no big deal.I really came to thrust WD Caviar disk... I even have a Green 2Tb in my external disk enclosure, so far so good!Hope you get as lucky as me with these!Cheers

Purcahsed this for $40 for installation with Windows 7 as a machine upgrade. The drive is fast and quiet for use for everyday internet surfing. WD is a great brand and I've been building all my machines with them for a long time!

Slower than the black one, but faster than the green one. Good enough for me. My second time buying this drive and it has been great. The price for this drive is constantly going lower and lower. I bought my first one for $70, but now it's only ~$45.
