Capacity / functionality for an IDE drive Runs a tiny warm, but a large part of that is my case's fault. I'm attempting to set up it to a HP/pavilion 750n with WinXp/SP2 and when reboot to continue the installation, the bios doesn't recognize it, as Slave works, but it give you a total of 465GB so I'm stuck, attempt to update the bios, but nothing at all, i make contact with HP help and they just told me, the my Pc is limited to 120GB HDD larger than that won't recognize it.

Cheap. Seems to perform fantastic. Some say an old Dell Dimension can only take 𞲨 gig hard drive. Effectively they are wrong. I installed the 500 gig as a slave to the initially whcih is only 80 gig. Took 10 years to fill it but now I am set.If you do this, you'll have to set the drive up in the Personal computer Management technique. Go to My Laptop or computer and choose Computer Management. Then go to Disk Managmement. In there you will see the new drive. Comply with the utility and you'll be set. Don't be concerned that the old drive is FAT32. I got this as additional storage for my home server, and it's worked flawlessly for two years. I'm not sure how it compares on speed to other drives, but for what I will need it for it's perfect. I've under no circumstances had a issue with WD. If I were acquiring a new 1 today, of program, I'd go larger.

Bought from Newegg in Dec. 2008. It's worked fine for almost two years. In the final couple weeks started creating unusual clicking sounds when accessing certain applications. EggCellent drives so far. I've been employing two of these for about two years and have had no difficulties. Transfer prices are good and the drives are quiet. They make wonderful storage drives. I had to spend for them... I agree with idaiki's comment. I've been explaining the capacity issue for about 25 years now and am receiving tired of it. Why can't we all just get along and make an international common and eradicate the issue forever??

Quiet. Seems to be running cool. For PATA, not a negative cost for the size. None. I'm using two of these in a mirrored RAID array below Ubuntu Linux on a Soyo KT400 mobo. Wanted some backup. I cut it up into 4 different partitions. Works excellent so far. I looked into acquiring a SATA controller card and SATA disks. Since I'm running fake raid (OS driven), I didn't want to have to deal with a card that could not like linux. I also didn't want to spend for a card w/ built in RAID. For my funds, if you have the added controllers on your mobo and are stuck w/ PATA, a couple of these disks are the way to go.

Worked effectively till it wouldn't spin up. Died soon after 45 days, only 15 days following Newegg return policy ended. I replaced it with a Hitachi 500GB AT133 from Newegg and computer system is back up and running.

NOT COOL for a drive of this capacity!Will NOT function with certain versions of Mac OS X as effectively as MOST challenging drive-based audio recorders; WD has acknowledged that there is a FIRMWARE FLAW which they are operating on at this time!I personal a 48-track audio-video production studio... not too long ago changed our way of recording audio (over 16 tracks), taking the outputs from every channel of our 48 channel mixer and going into a pair of Alesis HD24 24-track har drive-based recorders! The Complete LINE of the WD "Caviar Blue" drives have this firmware bug (even their 320 GB and lower capacity drives).Hitachi, WD Caviar (non-"Blue"), and Seagate 500 GB EIDE/PATA drives ALL Function Correctly in the Alesis recorder, so the dilemma is not the hardware. This was confirmed by telephone calls to Each Alesis and Western Digital; each tech dept. lead engineers say that they knew about the issue, but rather than waiting to release these "environmentally green" drives until the firmware situation is corrected, they felt that quite couple of Mac customers would be impacted by this "bug", but they are!
