its a hard drive, has fairly high storage space and excellent transfer rates. drive runs quite hot, not a superior thing if you want it to last.I got this drive as a replacement from WD, their warranty service is great, sadly as the new item comes with the identical warranty(one that just expired) I am unable to go by way of yet another RMA, its lasted just more than 4 months, which for my purposes makes it not worth the price of shipping. WD makes very good products, but I no longer trust their previous styles, the newer models such as black are far more dependable.

Lot's of storage - great price! No difficulties immediately after initial setup with OS. I use 2000 server still, so forcing it and my aging hardware to recognize this size of a drive was "fun." When I got thru that, all has been nicely!

Huge storage capacity, Uncomplicated Installation, QuietIn use for about 3 weeks now, great for replacing my smaller Boot Drive, Used Norton Ghost to save and restore current OS (Win 7) Now have breathing Space None at this time really should have ordred two

no issues installing difficult drive and setting it up, incredibly quiet and quick. none at this time. newegg ships items very rapid.

plenty of challenging drive space, nice and quiet,stays cool, i have purchased 4 of these in the past 6 months...the only difficult drives i acquire are western digital 2 weeks after the 1 month warranty ran out for newegg, it died, the circuitboard on it runs so hot it burns my hand, it stopped downloading totally...now i guess im out ๠ considering that the warranty for newegg ran out the newest 1 i bought was 1 day old and i heard the clicking sound after downloading for 3 hours, i knew it was dead, i sent it back to newegg RMA, but i guess im out of luck for the 1 i purchased 7 weeks ago...the date on this tough drive when it was built is MARCH 01, 2009...i hope western diogital reads this and makes it possible for me to send it to them under their warranty(if they have 1)i never ever really checked trigger ive never ever had a problem with their drives in the 10 years i have been getting them until this month

Worked wonderful as the major HD in a computer utilised everyday, and now an additional storage on a new laptop or computer. Re-formatted a couple of times change partition preferences. Holding up nicely as far as I can tell. Non so far. Though the tech is ageing, nonetheless working just fine for me as a dumping/backup/sorting drive.

Alot of storage, great price. Perfectly stable. I have come to trust these for important data backup. NONE. kinda loud but not knocking it. Great difficult drive. Excellent cost. If you want great trusty backup, appear no further.

I required a new drive for an old laptop. The drive lasted 7 months. It was in a linux server that was lightly applied.

Have by no means had a challenge with WD drives. I knew what it would be when I ordered it and it is exactly that. Ordering more for other "Family" applications. Wish WD had this in a smaller size for OS and use this as second drive. Wonderful for bringing older machines back to life or as added storage room. Utilized in older Dell for beginning my grandson on his merry computing way in life. He's sharp sufficient that he'll soon be wanting newer technology with quicker drives. As the kids grow, I'll put these in enclosures for added storage.

Works excellent in a PC that is on 24ǝ. Installed XPSP3 with no issues and took all the old files. You will have to move the jumper around to get the bios to recognize it as a primary hard drive. IDE is old but that's all the old dell can use.

NewEgg's on the ball with RMA's. In no way had a problem replacing a defective part. The drive is not detected as a primary drive by the bios. Only detected when used as a slave.Read forums of other people with the exact similar challenge with 2 out of 3 drives. In no way typically have troubles with WD drives. Hope the 2nd works as expected.

Western Digital's name, I still have a 1 gig hd from my Packerd Hell, that still works. I have a 20 gig that has survived a lightening strike years ago. All of my challenging drives had been Western Digital, even my laptops, until now. I have had over a dozen failed tough drives in the past 3 years. Some under warranty some not, the average life span of Newest Western Difficult drives are 6 months to a year. The laptop or computer organization I work for will no longer use WD. The lost data recovery cost for me is over Ūg now. If you don't want a drive you have to send back every six months stay away. DO NOT depend on this drive for a back up either! Only Three of the WD challenging drives, of the 14 I have\had have not been in for warranty or have just died out of warranty, Those three, Two are laptop drives the other is the VelociRaptor.

Decent drive for the job. It was installed in my Series 2 Tivo. Therefore it was working 24ǝ from the day I installed it till the day it died. Installed on 03񳏈 and died 01񳏋. Lucky im a month nonetheless under warranty. Angry since I lost all of my recordings since of the drive failure. Appears like it is something related to the hardware because my PC won't even recognize that the drive is installed in the BIOS.

Been running like a champ for over a year now. Had no issues with it along the way. Drive manufactures and OS programmers require to reach a compromise already. Don't know how numerous times I have been asked why only x quantity is space is there/is this drive broken. . . Actually are we nonetheless in elementary school. Lets standardize this already.

Necessary an IDE drive - as massive as I could fine - this fit the bill.Quiet, reliable - couldn't ask for additional. Absolutely nothing I'm so glad IDE is dying - working with this drive reminded me how a great deal I like SATA.

HD works and has much a lot more room than the original 40GB that it replaced. 1st HD was DOA although I spent a though verifying it. Newegg was speedy to problem the RMA and got a new drive to use rapidly. Replacement drive worked without having concern. Newegg customer service is wonderful as constantly.

This HD by no means failed on me, has been really stable and quick at moving files. This HD would also serve as a great addition into an additional develop - saving cash. Newegg service has been fantastic as often. Been a loyal customer because 2002. None.

Quiet. Stable. Dependable. Compatable with most any controller. A lot of storage space. None. To date I own 13 WD HDD's. Of all these one has failed, nicely past it's rated lifespan. I have installed much more than I can count and of those two died, one from overheating and 1 DOA. Your mileage might vary.

Died after 2 years and 11 months. I've had this drive for intermittent use in my PC, and now it's reporting bad blocks, crashing Windows. Make sure you keep your sales receipt. Mine is heading back to Western Digital.
