in Vista do this: righ click Personal computer ->Manage. Under storage you'll see Disk Management. Right-Click exactly where it says Disk 1 (not on its appropriate black bar) and slect initialize. Then Correct-Click on the black bar and produce volume and then pick MBR and quick format. Now you dont have to RMA the disk:) dont know yet

None. Drive was defective right out of the box. Produced strange noises when trying to power up. Was not visible in BIOS. There was no visible damage to the shipping box nor to the hard drive. Bought this drive simply because of positive critiques specifically to avoid getting some thing defective. My program didn't function. Unfortunately, I'll have to pay ű.39 in shipping to send it back to Newegg on RMA. Absolutely not content as this drive was intended to replace one that is currently failing. We'll see if the old drive holds out long adequate to copy more than data to the RMA Caviar Blue.

Very good cheap drives. I've had 1 that has lasted for three years now. I recently ordered three much more to add to the one I already had. They'd develop into a RAID five array. Well, two of the three work. 1 produced odd noises from the commence and finally gave up three hours in. Also, when it was working, it produced my BIOS occasionally hang and caused slow detection of the RAID array. Newegg is handling my RMA, and in common these are excellent drives. Just wish there was better QC involved. Now I'm out an additional บ just to get what I need to've had in the first location.

Nice Price Died after two months. Computer system started operating Quite Incredibly SLOW. Reloaded Windows 7 with the same results. The is the first WD I've had die. I'll attempt the black series as a replacement.

The price. 2 out of three of these drives that i ordered failed within a month... Thats what i would call a 1 egg rating. Also these drives are very slow, i didnt feel there would be THAT significantly distinction in between the caviar blacks and the caviar blue, but there IS. These drives are fairly darn noisy too, not that negative but enough to notice. Fortunately they had been portion of my RAID5 setup so i didnt lose any data. But it is a fairly big annoyance to have to RMA them.

A very good bit of space and decent speed, for a low low price. WD has produced great hard drives for awhile, so no surprise, when it comes to this 1 operating as intended without having considerably noise. N/A I have no regrets acquiring this tough drive. I believe my next build may use a WD tough drive with quicker rpm although.

None DOA Bios did not recognize drive. By no means spun up. Now I have a 50 dollar paperweight. Tested on gigabyte ud3 mobo; other difficult drive works fine (hitachi)

- Whisper silent- WD Warranty- Low cost- Quick for what it is- Plenty of storage for a simple home office machine - none I purchased this for a refurb project I'm performing on an old Dell machine. With the case open and my ear proper next to it, I can barely hear this drive. It's quieter than any of the WD Blacks I have, but not deathly silent like my SSD's. It's undoubtedly nowhere near as loud as the old WD 80GB it replaced.

Have always utilised Western Digital tough drives in all my builds and in no way been disappointed. Rapidly, quiet and reliable performance. None Great 1 day shipping from Newegg and came OEM bubble wrapped.

Drive lasted around 3 years or so (until i physically damaged it) In no way had read/write issues, decent speed - ran my OS, affordable and it's WD None I damaged the sata connection on the drive itself. You can remove the component but can not order a replacement. You have to transfer your content or do a bit of jerry-rigging to get it operating once more. Otherwise, this drive would be going for four years of heavy use with no a issue.

Rapidly and quiet. No heat concerns. Everything I require in a drive. None. Would like a larger cache, but didn't want to pop for the additional $$$ the Black series price. Bought this to eliminate a RAID that employed two WD 120's. Used this in an older program that has SATA 1. WD's internet website explains how to lock this drive at that speed to eliminate possible problems. (A jumper on pins 5Ƃ See WD Post ID1337)Possibly I'm just fortunate, but I've never ever had a challenge with ANY difficult drive, ANY brand. (Even an old Conner drive that ran on rubber bands. lol) Just prefer the WD's.

Bought this as a low cost drive to put my OS on i dont care too significantly about difficult drive speed. For me games load as quick or as slow as they want i dont care. Works terrific for what i use it for no issues Wish the drive came with a Data on Wester Digital sticker or some thing for my case. I really like WD they make very good trustworthy HDDs

500Gigs for 40$. Can't beat that. It works great. Simple/simple to install and use in my new create. Just mounted it in the case, connected the cables and began installing Windows7. May well not be the quickest drive, but very frankly, you probably wont even notice. Its got terrific response times and a lot of space for my wants. If your looking for a new HDD for a construct or just upgrading, this is a excellent drive. Totally fantastic HDD. And the price aint bad too :P None.

I have owned various of the Black Editions from W.D. and they have been excellent. I recently added this to my rig just for random storage and backing up. Not a lot of a difference in speed here. If so its not quite noticeable at all. Took a chance with open box and I am very pleased that I did so actually not a con other than that there are no cons here. Arrived like a new 1. If you are familiar with Newegg shipping bare drives you will notice that this ships the identical way as a brand new unit in the unbranded box.

Very good cost for the amount of storage a small noisy and for a 16mb cache sataǙ. it's fairly slow. It got a five.9 in win7 all my other hardware got 7.9. My older WD HDD has the identical cache and is 320gigs on sata.3. and it scored a 7, guess I know now how this thing saves power. Can't think I fell prey to the energy lies again..LOL. Kinda held my breath when I ordered this drive mainly because of all the poor reviews, but it's been a week and so far so superior. I think I'm performed with WD drives after this one they want to fall to the green and energy lies let them I'll get performance else had been

Worked out of the packaging. loads win7 in about 30 sec's gets a 5.9 in windows index lowest score of my program. Not worth taking an egg away though.

I am using this as a backup for my operating system drive so I can't comment on the constant use with this drive but it worked like a charm copying the OS image over with Acronis. Hopefully the drive will boot up should I ever have my primary drive give out on me.
