Comparatively affordable. Couldn't unlock any added cores. The first a single I got was undesirable and had to RMA it. Cost me twelve dollars to send it back. That's putting excellent funds immediately after bad. I believe I'll stick with Intel; their stuff just works. Between the lousy chipset and the poor processor I'm soured on AMD. You get what you spend for. Buy inexpensive and get inexpensive.

Purchased this along with an ASUS M4A87TD EVO motherboard and I was in a position to unlock the 2 extra cores (for a total of four) with no issues at all!Have not tried overclocking, as the stock heat sink fan is too wimpy. Right after unlocking the additional cores, you don't get a temperature studying for each and every core any longer, just the overall temp (using SpeedFan). You may possibly not be as lucky getting all four cores to function, as some really have physical problems, therefore why they had been disabled through manufacturing. But if you're fortunate, you can get an amazing quad-core out of a decently priced dual-core.

Waaaaay more rapidly than my old e6400. Can't complain a bit, operates with Win7 64 bit and Ubuntu. Mine unlocked to a quad, but wasn't stable. I haven't messed around a ton and might attempt once again. I knew what I purchased even though and don't genuinely need the quad so I can't dock it an egg. My stock cooler is pretty quiet and kept it at 55 for the duration of prime95 but I am going to upgrade anyway...

Low cost, quickly, stable stock cooler I bought this processor and had no complications unlocking the two more cores. I ran it through the ringer of tests and it stayed perfectly stable. i am absolutely thrilled i got a quad core processor for about 50 bucks more affordable. Yeah its a bit of a gamble but honestly i would have been just as pleased with two cores at three.2 for this value. The two additional cores are a very pleasant bonus

Unlocked into a x4 with all cores running stable. Didn't bother to overclock because I got it unlocked :) Stock cooler can get loud with intense gaming for hours. With a very good following marketplace cooler, you can reduce the noise as effectively as overclock this baby up to 4.0GHz!!

rapidly, low cost, easy not a Sandy Bridge (or Bulldozer) Purchased locally at price related to Newegg. ๖ MSI motherboard unlocked to get four cores, Prime95 stable and temps < 48C. Utilizing a gigantic CoolerMaster Geminii II CPU cooler (six heat pipes, two 120mm fans, cost-free immediately after rebate from Newegg in 2007). Had to bump the FSB to 217MHz with 18.5 multiplier, but left CPU voltage at stock - could go greater with overvolt, but I'm pleased as is. Snappy overall performance, can't wait for more apps to use multiple cores. Newegg's often been fantastic to me, but I needed the upgrade ASAP for an engineering project.

* Relatively straight forward installation.* Heat sink includes a bit of thermal paste already applied to the block. (I still added some of my personal just to be positive.)* Great cost for the performance spec's.* I get a 7.three Experience Index rating on my Win 7 x64 program with the two extra cores unlocked and with out any overclocking measures taken. * none This is a pretty excellent CPU for the price tag. I have this installed on my HTPC and it does a pretty good job with the encoding and ripping that I have to do at times. It stays pretty cool in the low 40's Celsius when encoding (with the use of thermal paste). I haven't had any thermal events, BSOD problems, or sudden lock-ups. So far I'm pleased with my buy.

quickly over-clocked to 4.2 GHz with following-marketplace cooler. this Black edition has unlocked multiplier. WEIɩ. none. operates perfect on ASRock mobo. could not unlock other cores, possibly due to motherboard limitations. really should get a different board, or go with quad-core for that matter. Otherwise, it works well as is, and does what i need it to do.

Its good to have a processor that can be adjusted this straightforward. One of the default cores was defective, stock install no tweaking, no unlocking, no more than clocking and the personal computer would blue screen booting the Win7 Pro X64 install CD.Stock heat sink is laughable in comparison to the stock heat sink for the 955. The blue screens were all related to memory, producing the diagnosis of a defective CPU additional time consuming. Unlocking the CPU and disabling the second core (making this a single core processor) resolved the problem. the method also booted find with the third and forth cores enabled.Replaced this CPU with a 955 and RMA'ing the 555. Seems like by the time you purchase the 555 and a heat sink that is comparable to the 955 your threeǚ's of the way to the 955's buy price tag.

it unlocks and overclocks beautifully! Can go from Clark Kent with funny glasses (Amd cool n quiet low power consumption operating at 69 degrees cool) to Superman performance (open four cores and ramp it up to 3.7Ghz with stock cooling). Seriously, im a fan of amd and this chip represents the greatest of high quality vs price vs efficiency that they are know for. And how usually does a item get 4 stars from virtually all buyers? It is Phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!! Occasionaly 1 of these does not open up stably to four cores--but its appears to be uncommon so your chances of obtaining 4 cores is very good. We should all be thankful for AMD, even Intel folks, due to the fact this competition has kept rates from going sky high--just visualize a globe where Intel could sell even their mid and lower end products at costs like their high finish tech now. I hope AMD can soon surpass Intel at each and every cost point now that Intel has to play on an even playing field (vendors need to have to preserve the consumers greatest interest in thoughts, not just their profit margins!!!!). Newegg does do this, so kudos to Newegg as well.

Runs cool, fast, and is all around brilliant for the cost. Havent unlocked cores, but its nonetheless a good cpu. The capacity to unlock this to quad core is a bit of a gamble and seems to pull in buyers. Do not purchase this in hopes it will unlock. You want quad core, obtain quad core. No complaints really.

One particular of the finest CPUs I've ever owned. I bought mine hoping it would unlock to all 4 cores. Luckily it did and it's brilliant. It stays super cool, more than clocks to 3.6 GHz on air cooling without a dilemma. It may possibly not be the fastest out there, but hey you can't beat the cost. AMDs are just great. None at all.

Unlocked to Phenom II X4 B55 quickly with my MSI motherboard, but has no core temp sensors when unlocked, so all you have is an overall CPU temp. Exceptional performance, even with 2 cores at stock freq. Unlocked it yields AES encryption/decryption of nearly 600 MB/s, utilizing TrueCrypt. Also yields x264 encoding at DVD resolution 2 hour length in ㅌ minutesL3 Cache. no core temps when unlocked, as mentioned above, but overall CPU temp operates. Horrid stock fan. Loud, will not cool well if unlocked or overclocked. Loudest fan in my CM Storm Scout case by far.Power usage when unlocked. According to HWMonitor 𞳠 Watts vs ㆏ Watts stock. Fantastic cost/performance ratio, especially when unlocked and/or overclocked. Very recommended as a budget performer.

Unlocked 2 added cores successfully (on ASUS M4A87TD EVO). For the wonderful cost, I would have been content even devoid of four cores. For my needs, getting L3 cache is way much more beneficial than two extra cores. Icing on the cake. None. Stock fan is... well stock. Runs at 48C below load (Rift ultra video settings). Not really a con or enough to shed an egg more than. Nevertheless very content with this chip.

Price! Not a poor price tag at all since I was able to unlock the other cores and get a quad for ๪ w/ 6mb L3 cache. Its running @ three.8ghz with an arctic freezer cooler. I'm trading it with my brother because he has a dual-core and I dont want a quad for my HTPC since I have a hex now :) NONE. NADA. ZILCH. With a gigabyte board, not confident which ones have this alternative, appear for the Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC), put the cores on Auto and put the EC firmware Selection to "Hybrid". You'll see where cores two and 3 are enabled, and all my cores are on Ʋ (its automatic so dont worry about setting it manually). Right after you choose Hybrid, you'll see the screen update the firmware, then reboot and lastly you'll see exactly where the Phenom X2 555 becomes X4 B55.
