AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core Processor AM3 3.2GHZ 6MB L3 Cache 80W 45NM Retail Box
Cons:None, cpu has gone above and beyond, and done more than expected from it.

Pros:SOLID cpu, great life span.Only unlockable to a triple core, however runs stable at 4.0GHz with a H70, so not really a downside.
Comment:
I use this rig for gaming, and when paired with a XFX 5850HD, plays every game I've thrown at it, in more than respectable quality at 1920x1080.Bad Company 2 a game that gets bottle necked by the cpu runs with all settings on High, 4xAA, with a single (albeit overclocked) 5850 at an average of 70-80 fps. (Dx11)Left 4 Dead 2 8xAA at 240+ fpsCrysis 2 4xAA at 45-50 fpsDragon Age 2 4xAA 70fps (In Dx11)Brink AA Enable 80+fpsFable 3 4xAA 50-60 fpsWitcher 2 4xAA 30-40 fps (A behemoth of a game)There is not a single game I have thrown at this chip that it has not done much better than it should have. Will be upgrading to bulldozer for Battlefield 3. However, chip has done more than can be asked, and still shines. Now at less than $100? Great for entry level system, or someone who wants a chip with a TON of headroom that wont bleed your wallet dry.

Got lucky and unlocked to a Quad core (see other thoughts)Essentially a Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core ProcessorRuns cool at stock speeds even immediately after running at 100% all night6MB level three cache Stock cooler can not manage ANY overclocking of unlocked quad-core, but this is to be expected since I'm creating the chip a 125W vs 80W.Get an aftermarket heatsink if you strategy on oc'ing. Purchased in a combo with ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/sSaved over โ compared to the x4 955Don't be fooled by the X4 840, it's not really a Phenom, it's an Athalon (no lvl three cache).

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core Processor AM3 3.2GHZ 6MB L3 Cache 80W 45NM Retail Box
Cons:None

Pros:Cheap and a good performer in its basic from. Becomes a steal if you are able to unlock it, which I did, and OC it a bit.
Comment:
This is a very nice CPU even if you can't unlock it. A thing to remember though, don't be disappointed if you can get 4 cores working, it's the luck of the draw. Unlocked on all four and OC'ed at 3.8, it becomes a little power house. With the 955 dropping in price and a Bulldozer on the horizon, it might be less of a deal but still a good CPU.

Cons: I could only unlock 1 extra core

Pros: Great value.High overclocking potential
Comment:
I was hoping to unlock both extra cores, but I did unlock 1.With a OCZ Vendetta 2 heatsink on I'm running this as a 3 core c 4ghz. Temps in the mid thirties while gaming.Benchmarking this against my Athlon II 965 with 3dmark Vantage has less than 100 point spread. I'm very pleased with this for only $89.99 on sale.

Cons: Mine won't hit 4Ghz

Pros: It is very easy to overclock, potential to get quad core
Comment:
I've had this card for 1 month now, and I was able to get all 4 cores, and overclock it to 3.9GHz, unfortunately I cannot get 4ghz. If you are looking for a Dual Core AMD processor I recommend this one because it is good as a dual core and nice overclocker. Plus you might be able to unlock 1 or 2 extra cores!

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core Processor AM3 3.2GHZ 6MB L3 Cache 80W 45NM Retail Box
Cons: Make sure the CPU box has not been tampered

Pros: Hidden unlockable CPUsOverclocks wellRuns cool
Comment:
This was a web order that I had to wait one hour in the store to pick up! Normally web order pickups only take a few minutes, so I was happy to get out of the store and did not carefully examine the packages of the 4 items that I had purchased. When I got home I found out to my dismay that my AMD Phenom II X2 555 CPU box had been opened!Anyway, since these CPUs are like lottery tickets, my fears were validated when I found out that one of the two hidden locked cores was bad. However, even so, this is a great CPU that when paired with a Coolmaster 212+ runs idle at 35C and load never exceeds 52C. It also runs stable at 3.6GHz without having to increase any voltage.Had I checked the CPU box before leaving the store, I would probably now have an X4 Phenom II instead of an X3. So don't make the same mistake I did, when you pick up any CPU with hidden cores make sure first that the box has not been tampered. This review was modfied by poster @ 10-31-10 05:49 PM

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core Processor AM3 3.2GHZ 6MB L3 Cache 80W 45NM Retail Box
Cons: Not many, lagged a little before overclocking

Pros: Price, Value, Unlockable
Comment:
This processor is the best bang for your buck dual core on the market. 2 extra cores can be unlocked (mind you, don't choose this over a quad... If you want a quad, buy a damn quad)Coupled with an arctic cooling heatsink, or comparable aftermarket cooling unit, this processor will easily push 4gigs. I have mine running at 4.1gigs, no issues. The stock heatsink is pitiful at best. All in all, great processor, but not a replacement for a quad core if that's what you need. It'll possibly unlock up to 2 extra cores, yet shows little if no difference once these are unlocked.

Pros: -Good power for value price-Chance to unlock up to 2 extra cores

Got this chip for my value build. Ended up unlocking 1 extra core, so running with 3 completely functional cores. Stock cooler was not too impressed with the added head, so I had to buy another cooler.Cooler was quiet when I was still using it.At the moment, I have overclocked the chip to 3.8 ghz at stock Vcore.

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Dual Core Processor AM3 3.2GHZ 6MB L3 Cache 80W 45NM Retail Box
Cons: Even unlocked and running at 3.8ghz oc, it cannot quite approach the performance of a stock i5 750/760 in most benchmarks. But at 1/2 the price, no contest here for those on a tight budget. Second, it might not unlock for you.

Pros: Best bang for the buck in its price range. Runs cool. At 3.6oc, temps were 28oC (idle) and 50oC (load), with a Corsair H50 for cooling. Unlocks and overclocks easily. Freq of successful unlocking of both cores on the 555 BE seems very high (but YMMV). If both extra cores unlock (as mine did), system identifies it as an X4 955 BE Deneb. When PM'd to $100 and change, a 3.2ghz quad core at that price is unbeatable value. Overclocked readily to 3.8 by simple upping of multiplier (but not without one little Prime95 rounding error after 5 hrs at max cpu load in one of the unlocked cores, although this was on a budget mobo with no mosfet cooling and a defective nb heatsink).
Comment:
I'm a total novice, so keep that in mind reading this review. However, I read a *lot* of reviews and forum posts before choosing the 555 for my first budget build. Am very, very happy with the high performance, the overclocking ease, the low temperatures, and more than delighted to end up with a very fast quad via unlocked cores for almost half-price. My thrifty gene is thrilled. Just what I need to keep me up to speed until the lay of the land after AMD's soon-to-be Bulldozer cpu is fully known.

Pros: Fast. Was able to unlock the 2 extra cores stable.
Comment:
At first, unlocking all the cores caused the cpu to overheat and shut down during prime95 stress tests. The stock heatsink is definitely not capable of cooling a quad core. Using an aftermarket cooler the cpu stays nice and cool. Great buy, and NCIX's price match saved me even more!!
