Great CPU
Comment:
The 955 is a great CPU. Using it none stop, it still hasn't gone over 70% usage. Extracting zip files, loading multiple programs, even having a game install while defrag-ing the hdd and moving music and videos didn't slow this thing down. For the price, the 955 is an amazing buy.

Cons:* No SMT (Simultaneous MultiThreading, 1 Core = 1 Thread).* Difficulty Scaling Pas 4GHz On 64 Bit OS* AM3 Socket Only Allows North/South Orientation For Tower Style HSF.

Pros:Performance and reliability for the price

AMD fanboys and girls, put on your bibs because your about to be drooling. Unlocked mulitplier...nuf said for me. With a nice cooling system you can have fun oc'ing. I've never burned an amd while oc'ing and with the access to the mulitplier you can get good numbers.

AMD chips are for the ones that can do math. You have to multiply 800Mhz by 4, (since it is a quad). And then you will get your favorite number. Good luck Rainman!

Good CPU
Comment:
Decent speed and performance. I think is excelente in relation price-performance and it runs cool with the cool n quiet function at 37 celsius. For tony and his review, try to update your motherboard BIOS, when I first turned my system on, it says 800MHz speed and after I updated the BIOS it recognized my cpu without any problem. If this didn't work, then enter to the BIOS and turn off the Cool N Quiet option and try it in that way. Hope it work.

Worst thing ever
Comment:
This quad core for some reason only runs 800mhz. Thats like a pentium 3. It should run 3.2ghz! I have an AMD 780G AKA RS780 motherboard and I can barely find motherboard updates to support this. There goes $169.99

Do NOT push harder to install heat sink
Comment:
I was worried when i read the review about installing the heat sink, fan for the first time on an A M D system, I personally have never seen using force to install a componant work. Every computer I have built has had issues with pieces that I hadn't figured out perfectly, all I had to do was check and rethink the angle I was working from or the placement of the tower I was installing a piece into. Everybody that has less respect for thier computers and didn't think ESD was an issue, or that dusting with a really small fiber duster wouldn't backfire when they should have used compressed air dusters instead, have lost whole systems that they then have to test piece by piece. My advice is rethink and look closer at the unit you are installing and the recepticle you are inserting it into. Sorry to sound preachy but I could just imagine the harm and cost that can be incurred by reading that and just pushing harder, then snap! Ooops

Heat sink
Comment:
The heat sink was a bit of a pain to put on. Had to be more aggressive with it and the motherboard than i would have preferred. First time putting on a AMD heat sink so it might be that, however if you buy it and it doesn't fit just push a bit harder. Didn't break anything and its working good.

It's no secret that AMD is not competitive with Intel at the high end of the market. Where they win, and as a consumer I hold myself as an example, is the midrange.I was able to build an entire system for hundreds less than I would have otherwise and the 955 performs extremely well. Anyone who feels like it can run the numbers on a review site, but I will give a subjective review here. I work with a core i7 920 at 3GHz regularly (with Vista SP2, 6GB DDR31066, 4350) and with this CPU at 3.2 GHz regularly (with 7, 4 GB DDR1333, 5870). I find the system with the 955 and Windows 7 to be more responsive. The reviews will say the 955 loses in synthetic benchmarks but that the gaming tests are neck and neck. Well, again subjectively, I can't tell the difference. This is a solid CPU at a great price. It can overclock very well and has the advantage (if you see it that way) of supporting competition in the market place. I'd buy it again, presuming I was on a budget.

Well Made
Comment:
This CPU holds up well under extreme overclocking load. Multitask functionality is amazing, and performance is as expected with an AM3 chip. The fan is quiet, and heat-sink adequate but unless you're running a liquid cooled system, I would recommend as much air cooling circulation as possible. I used three 120mm intake and two exhaust fans. One in the front, two on the sides of the same size, one in the back, one on top for exhaust. These will keep the CPU between 100 to 107 degrees under load, with an ambient temp of 75.

Good but not the best
Comment:
Got this because I saw the 3.2ghz and i needed a computer fast because downtime costs me a lot. Its been going good but I recently saw some benchmarks of the 965 and Intel core i5 the i5 beats the 965 in almost everything and the i5 costs the same as a 955 but that's just me not doing my research beforehand though this performs almost as well as the 965 for 50 dollars less. But in terms of bang for your buck go with the i5

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:-Stock heatsink and fan too noisy.

Pros:-Price and performance compared to Intel-Stock Quadcore 3.2Ghz.-Runs cool with tower coolers.-Fast.
Comment:
Installed this to run a HTPC. The speed is amazing. You'll need to install better heatsink to keep temp down. Multitasking without any slowdown or lag. Great CPU. First own an AMD.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
Cons:None really, I just found the stock fan slightly noisy (I like my system perfectly quiet) so I simply added an inexpensive Coolermaster Hyper TX3 heatsink/fan which both lowered the temperature and made it perfectly quiet.

Pros:Great price, now is the time to buy one of the most powerful processors availableRuns coolPowerful- runs all the latest games at full settingsRock solid, easy install, problem free
Comment:
This processor is a steal at the current pricing and combined with a GigaByte mobo and Mushkin ram from NCIX will build a perfect system. I am extremely happy with the perfromance increase I got after installing this CPU.

Excellent Price and Quality
Comment:
This is the best cpu I have ever bought. I got it from the store, so I don't know about people having problems with handling of shipment, but the processor itself can handle anything you throw at it without a sweat. The fan that comes with it is not bad, but I am still using one of my case fans just in case it heats up too much(no overheating so far). The speed is just blowing me away. I have not overclocked it and I don't plan to, because the speed it's already on is enough to max out anything, so just buy it with any decent AM3 motherboard. You will be amazed!

I am very pleased with this CPU. I havent had any issues with it yet despite the Intel fanboys telling me to stay away from AMD and stick with Intel. I found AMD just as good or better and plus you get more bang for your buck.

Can't go wrong with this one
Comment:
Nice, high quality chip that came sooner than it originally was stated. Stock fan is a bit loud, so I'd recommend a Cpu cooling fan ,especially if you're into OC'ing, which is fairly easy to do. Overall, you can't go wrong with the price tag and quality that comes with it.

Intel needs to step it up now! AMD is taking over!
Comment:
O.K so I bought this CPU cause I was sick and tired of my old Pentium 4 and wanted an upgrade, well I did some looking and BOOM a 3.2Ghz STOCK processor QUAD CORE that is in the playing field and sometimes beats it $1000 rival (i7 975). I saw the review from guru3d and was sold! I won't buy another Intel processor again unless its free and epic as well... that won't happen so YAY! All my friends are jealous as heck and I told them to look it up, get it, and... PWN!

Superb Processor, Forget Intel even exists.
Comment:
I have had this CPU for six months now, running at a OC'd 4.0ghz, and bear in mind that is right out of the box. Thjs is an extremely good proc to purchase and while, yes, the new 965 is out it does consume more power and this has the potential to exceed the 965 right out of the box when coupled with the MSI 790FX-GD70 mobo.
