D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:Only one: Torture test (see below) revealed a nasty "undocumented Feature"Edit: One more - Lack of simultaneous 2.4 MHz and 5 MHz connection capability.

Pros:Consistant dependable connection.Shareport - Networked USB connection.D-Link seems to be making an effort to make this an exceptional product based on the frequency of firmware releases.$50.00 instant rebate sweetened the deal, a lot!
Comment:
Great product - Shareport Network USB is an unexpected bonus:As soon as I got connected to the router I upgraded the firmware to Version 1.15. Have not experienced the "Router hanging" problems described upon googling DGL-4500.Previously, had flaky connection from 10 ft away, unacceptable!Replaced old WRT54GS and WPC54G with this and a DWA-652, result is like having a wired connection, gotta luv it!Even better due to recently released "Shareport network USB" utility. The documentation doesn't say much about this feature but I connected my printer, scanner and external USB hard drive through the router. It all worked so well together that I dementedly decided to try to trip it up...Torture test: - Defragging a USB connected (Shareport) USB hard drive from a wireless connected laptop using Perfectdisk 7. Went well for about 15 minutes or so, then all three systems, (2 Wireless/1 Wired) connected and running the Shareport utility, simultaneously displayed a BSOD.After futzing about trying to fix the problem from the computer end it finally dawned on me that the only thing common to all systems was the router. Cycled the router's power Off->10 Sec->On and everything went back to normal.I sent the results to D-Link and, hopefully, they will use the info to help polish what is an already excellent product. I noticed a huge boost in speed after upgrading to this from my trendnet 58Mbps wireless router. Streaming 1080p trailers is a breeze for this beast.

Sort of high priced but loaded with features. Quality seems good. However, the lack of guidance for setup is frustrating. ended up having to go to there tech support (very complex lot of coices before you get to someone that will help). They did get me up and running finally. However, I have to reboot 2 to3 times a week. My speed test are at about half my rated speed both wired and wireless. The dropped network is a pain. Supposed to help with gaming, ah, forget it, I lag to death.

I had this router for almost 2 weeks, and by far it's one of the best routers out there. Easy setup and configurations. Once it's up and running, adding your favorite game's ports to GameFuel will allow you to have better connection/ping while playing. My ping lowered from average 70, to 50 on the majority of servers I play on thanks to the GameFuel software built into the router. Great Product

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:Somewhat of a learning curve to understanding some of the many features. No LED's on the front or top of the router that indicate network activity. LCD light times out after 30 seconds.

Pros:Great user interface, lots of options and excellent range. The price is a bit excessive.

I exchanged a Netgear Rangemax WNR3500 for the D-Link DGL-4500 router because the Netgear Rangemax WNR3500 didn't have any of the options, security or range that I was looking for. In fact the Netgear Rangemax WNR3500 failed send and receive packet tests that I ran on it with no security option to remedy this flaw. The D-Link DGL-4500 is amazing in functionality but can be difficult to understand. Getting my wifes wireless connection setup took sometime as I like to use Mac Address Filters on all my machines. This wasn't as easy as just adding them.. You had to sent to router to except in coming Mac Address's then select the MAC's you wanted to allow access to your network.. Kinda cool but took some to figure out. The game fuel feature seem cool although I haven't given it much a look yet.. Portforwarding has a bunch of presets to the more popular games and apps. All in all this router is kick ass and has far to many features and functionality to mention. Do yourselves favor and don't buy a Netgear Rangemax WNR3500 unless you like having an unsecure system. The D-Link DGL-4500 out preforms the Netgear Rangemax WNR3500 in all aspects and will secure you system unlike the Netgear Rangemax WNR3500.

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:LCD screen should have the ability of on/off or delay so that one can watch the time. Router does not support Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) from MS. Might or could be an issue for some users.

Pros:Great router. Performs flawless for games with Gamefuel on. VPN function is great too.
Comment:
Excellent router. Setup was piece of cake. Even updating the firmware was easy. Check D-Link for firmware v1.10. Backup of settings was not complete though. I lost all the wireless settings. May have been updated with new firmware though. Prices are cheap enough now that this is an awesome buy. It replaced my Linksys BEFSX41 and WAP54G and outperforms them in both catagories.

I have had one of these for a few months now. It is very stable for me and able to handle a lot of connections. I mean a lot of connections. I hardly ever have to reboot it. Highly recommended for anyone who is very demanding on their routers. Make sure to check for the latest firmware revisions.

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:None thus far

Pros:Fast, stable, wireless N works great, easy webpage access to settings
Comment:
Bought this so that I could best utilize wireless N with my laptop (it replaced my Linksys 54G). Easy to set up, just followed the folder provided and connected within 5 mins. Once I figured out the wireless N 5 Ghz(draft 2.0)settings on the laptop I was very happy with the speed. With Shaw Xtreme-I w/speedboast I acheived 14 - 18 Mps download and 983 Kbs upload on my laptop. Fantastic for a wireless connection. In fact my desktop connection is barely faster then the laptop wireless connection. I like the webpage feel to access the settings, the way its organized and the help feature to explain some of those settings that not all of us use. As I am not a gamer I cannot provide any opinion on the gamefuel aspect. The LCD sreen is nice but like other others commented I wish there was an option to have it stay on when desired. Best router I've used/seen. Will never return to Linksys again. JR This review was modfied by poster @ 04-29-08 01:52 PM

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:It cost's a lot even on sale.Display is cool but not really usefull.Setup Disk had fatel conflicts with Game Rail drivers.(virtual lan connections to be exact)

Pros:It works great under heavy load.Wireless N works great.
Comment:
I traded up from a DI524 to this and was happy with the preformance increase.Installation was difficult because of conflicts between the installiation disk and the Gamerail drivers installed on my computer. However the setup from the router itself was easy to figure out and the available tweeks and features should be familer to any D-Link user.Firewall setup for hosting is easy but has many settings and features for those looking to customise their setup. With 3 computers running CounterStrike Source(2 wired,1 wireless) and 2 wireless laptops surfing the net Gamefuel was not needed and there were no dropped connections in 4 hours of play.Impressive to say the least. The display is only for show though. Not very usefull and any info on it can be found by going into admin on a computer without having to get up and play with the router, where ever it may be hidden or left to gather dust after setup.Lets face it,a great router should be able to be setup and then forgotten about. This is one of them.

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:LED screen does not stay lit, requires reboot after every new port forward setting change

Pros:simple admin interface, quick and painless setup, stable, fast.
Comment:
I upgraded from the D-Link DI524, and boy what a difference! Only using a G wireless card in my laptop, but it seems quicker for file transfers, as well as the speed of my Wii and PS3. It is a stable device, and so much easier to set up forwarding than the older DI524. Thoroughly pleased, and quite anxious to see how well it works with the draft N card I plan on purchasing.

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router
Cons:LCD does not stay on, goes to sleep mode after 30secs - hopefully a firmware option in the near future!

Pros:Very Stable, very fast, nice bright display!
Comment:
I received this to replace my old DIR-655 and wow what a difference! The local network file transfers were much faster than the DIR-655 and local LAN Parties is even better with less-to-none lag! My old routers had problems connecting all my gaming systems together especially file sharing & windows media center extender now works flawlessly! If you want a router that does everything than this is the ULTIMATE!!!This has been the best router I have used, I have went through plenty other routers from linksys and even the SRX models and even previous dlink models, and this one by FAR blows them all away! I knew it would be better but didn't knoiw how MUCH better it was until I got it! So amazing! I am so glad I have purchased a fine product - I will gladly recommend this to anyone!
