This thing gave me nothing but trouble. It worked for about a half hour, then dropped me, ALWAYS! Had to restart a couple times to get it to connect again. I messed with my router thinking that was the culprit, but it wasn't helping. I installed drivers from three different sources: built in Vista driver, the driver from the disk, and the driver from the manufacturer's site, they all gave me the same problems. I finally busted out an old D-Link card I found (from 2004!) and it works better than this. By the way, I am running Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. (Gave this 2 stars because it worked sometimes.)

for the first few days, this card preformed amazingly not one dropped connection, transfer rate was a constant 54Mbps (or at least that's what it showed it as) then as a few days passed it started to drop my connection, and i noticed the transfer rate went from 54Mbps to 36Mbps. then a few more days passed, the dropped connections became more frequent, and the transfer rate has never been above 11Mbps, tho it does drop so low as 1Mbps. also, i am right above my router, it is one floor below me. my laptop is also on the wireless network and doesn't have this issue.

Excellent adapter at a very reasonable price. Used in a dual-boot XP Pro and Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) machine and works well under both operating systems. Recommended!

Great value, but will only work on Windows XP machines. Every Vista Machine I tried has given me conflicts with the Windows networking assistant. Works great on Windows XP.

Awesome card for the price. Don't bother with the junk on the install cd, just go to http://www.hiroinc.com/drivers/ and download the proper driver there, the one on the cd left me with frequent disconnects and took forever to connect on startup. This is a small setback for a wonderful wireless card. I highly recommend buying this.

Ok worked out of the box Problem was it disabled ''fast user switching'' under Xp, found a script online to fix the registry and it restored this feature, has to do with the default gina driver, it overrides this for some reason, ( get what you pay for ) Download and run this fix for the login problem http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fix_xp_logon.htm

I've bought 2 of these now. I have zero experience with wireless. Yet this couldn't have been easier. The 1st was installed in an old AMG athlon 1.2 machine with 512mb of ram. The other was installed in a new pentium dual-core with 1Gb of ram, The only thing they share is both run Windows XP Home. I opened them up, hooked them up, loaded them up with the drivers and followed the install wiz. I immediately had full strength connection and full 54mbps, great product at a great price.

I'm running vista home premium and it was very difficult to get the drivers installed,, but once I did it worked flawlessly,I picked up a neighbors network from a 1000 feet away through walls and a fence. I suggest getting a more powerful antenna though.

Cheap. Works. Reception is great. The main reasons I picked this one is because of the nice external antenna and price. Reception is great. I even discovered a neighbor has a wireless net that my other WiFi stuff never picked up. The documentation and on-screen setup aren't at all clear. Folks who already know how to set up wireless cards can easily find and tweak what they need but newbies beware.

It didn't work on the computer with an MSI motherboard but it worked great in a Shuttle computer. Don't install the software, just let Windows find the drivers on the disk. It seems to work a lot better that way.

I got this wireless card when i was making a new computer so i could have internet on the old one. This adapter is amazing it gives me 100% signal 2 rooms away. It also comes with 2 antenas one that has a wire so you can move it around, and one thta you can screw on and leave on there. Downside is that the small antenna is horrible, but the long one is amazing.

I bought two of these cards to expand my options on the home network. Installed the first in a Vista Basic machine and the disk said only Windows 98-XP. Alright so I left that computer and went to install the second in an XP machine and when I put the disc in, it gave an option for Vista that I did not see on the first disc. I took that disc to the Vista computer and lo and behold it works! I guess it is random what disc you get with the card but the ''red'' disc has Vista drivers but the ''blue'' disc does not. There is no printed documentation provided in the box (es). I could not find the drivers online either. The XP machine that is upstairs, about 15 feet away through wood and concrete floor connects to the network at 54MBPS no problem. The Vista is fine- only two feet away but moving out to big screen TV for football season which is 20 feet away but on the same floor level.I gave this card low marks on quality due to the lack of documentation.

Just installed my first PCI wireless card in my Windows XP machine and it works great! I even went into my wireless router and adjusted the power down to 10% and it barely wavered off excellent. The first PCI slot I installed it in didn't detect the card, but after moving it up one (#2 of 3 unused) Windows recognized and installed right away. Great buy!

After reading the reviews on Tigerdirect, I bought one of this PCI adaptor. I have used a few USB adaptor for the PC in basement but none of them work reliably. This unit is the only one with real reception(36mbps constantly), thanks to the external attenna so I can move it around for the best reception.

I installed this on a Dell Dimension 4400 (WinXP) and did it in just a few minutes. The drivers in the product's CD worked fine and I was able to connect to our wireless network easily and without too much hassle. Bottom line, this was a great buy!

Comment:
I bought this out of desperation after two different USB NIC's failed to work correctly or reliably. I bought it for the price and because it came with the external antenna on a wire. It actually comes with two antennas - this one and a standard rubber stick that screws into the same mount. It runs good even in a rather dead spot in my house never below 24mbs and almost never below 48mbs. Since link speed for me is limited by the WAN link it's not noticeable. I ran the included driver and application CD and it hooked up and ran right away no problems. Please note that Hiro does not appear to have any software for this card on their website so you should keep the included CD. More expensive cards may have more rock solid performance at maximum speed but for $30 and two antennas you can't easily beat it and it convinced me NEVER EVER EVER use a USB wireless NIC for any purpose whatsoever no matter the price.
