Super uncomplicated set-up. I got this to replace my Linksys router that stopped operating immediately after I was away from the nation for two months. I'm pleased with the item. None so far. I enjoy the look and feel of it. Reminds me of Apple's pre-aluminum item.s

Expense! It less expensive right here on New Egg but I bought it at Wal Mart mainly because Necessary it right away. Pretty straightforward to set up but I am new to wireless and there is a sharp mastering curve on your 1st router set up. This is a basic router [which is what I wanted] Its only wireless G and the speed on both our laptops is 48mbs which is fine for what I need to have. No drop offs so far! I did require some assist connecting to the laptops [this is my 1st time] and I did use netgears tech assist to do so. My Mom's laptop is running Vista and I truly" messed" [edited at new eggs request] it up but net gear came by way of My brother in law is a pc system writer, computer software developer and my fantastic good friend has a phd in mathmatics and does very high tech stuff for the Navy and they each mentioned to get a netgear if all I want is a uncomplicated wireless connection with few complications. They each use high-buck complex stuff for what they do.

I'm Not True High Tech (tho some feel I am) I just READ the directions. It was really simple to set up. I got a small confused setting up a Network. Got the Pc up and running. Laptop took a little longer -- then suddenly, there it was -- both computers were on the net--and the little network quantity was showing on the laptop online icon. It took me 45 minutes to a single hour to get it set up. Perhaps not rather as quickly as the typical bear. BUT-- I got there. Haven't located any.

Fast, stable connection, general does what it's supposed to. Configuration interface is confusing and tricky to use, especially with setting up port forwarding and such. I was a bit edgy about buying it hearing the stories of dropped connections, but the v9 hardware appears to have none of that. I can surf and game on a laptop and a Wii console with no troubles.

Rapidly and reliable when it functions This model has had a bad history of receiving hot and locking-up. Netgear has had alot of complaints and a lot of units replaced, only to do it once more. Poor situation design and no heatsink are the major challenge. Steer clear of this model all with each other. other Netgear routes are fine, but this unit chokes on the 54mbs mode when employed too heavily.

Nicely it does exactly what it's supposed to. Never had any issues with disconnects, has excellent range, little footprint, and extremely extremely easy to install. For some purpose I can't get it to open my NAT for Xbox Reside and PSN so it somewhat limit's the people today you can play against. But it's truly not a huge difficulty considering that there are so quite a few folks on the net you nonetheless come across a lot of matches.

Read directions and adhere to them. Basic but accurate. Nonetheless they can't contain the difficulties that can come from the equipment offered by your ISP in the directions. Works flawlessly with wii and psp. I specially liked the button to turn off the wireless when I wanted. Comcast gear is poorly designed. If you use this router with them as your ISP you will will need to take away the battery from the modem and then press the reset button on the modem. If you use comcast for your telephone be aware this will kill your telephone whilst performing this. Well thought out piece of gear. I like organizations that don't insult their consumers by over or under estimating the capacity of the finish user. The directions hit the mark very effectively.

Iv'e had this wireless router for alittle over two 1Ǜ years and it has never given me a challenge. At the begining i was getting dropped signals, but in netgears defense it was my dsl business's fault... Soon after i bridge my connection i under no circumstances ever have gotten a drooped sinal once more, and it has never failed on me.... Im just in the market to get a faster one now =) Wish it was more quickly than 54mbps, if not for that then this issue would most likely outlive me lol... This is the second of this model for me and I have had no complications with dropped connections or range. If I necessary yet another wireless router tomorrow, this is what I would order. None so far... I had a small difficulty with installation but I usually do, no matter what the brand. Not with the hardware or software, but with the initial wireless connection to the laptop. I know it is just my inexperience with all factors wireless but that element gets a small frustrating for me.Neweggs shipping was superb... nicely packed.

Really easy to setup, bypassed the CD and logged in to the router by way of 192.168.1.1. Has actually much more characteristics than I would have thought for such an cheap router. The turn WiFi Off switch on leading is quite handy if your the paranoid sort (like myself). Stock antenna is not spectacular. Not sure if it can be swapped, but if it can, a greater gain 1 would take it from an 80% to 90%. Also has a mode to switch the transfer rate to a maximum of 150mbps. Haven't tried it out however, but will.P.S the default login is Admin. Default passsword is Password. Alter it even though.

Straightforward to setup and use. My MAC wouldn't connect to the wireless. Always showed up restricted connectivity. I suspect this could be apples fault. All windows computer systems, ps3 and psp connected fine.Bricked following attempting to update from a WIRED computer with wireless disabled. Was making use of firefox, maybe ought to have been employing IE. Dead- no response to pings. TFTP won't operate. You get what you pay for... Back to linksys.

Hardware worked, was in a position to connect to DSL modem and access the net devoid of obtaining to setup the router. Appears nice. Price tag. Computer software to setup the wireless locked up in Windows XP. Client service/policies of netgear are worthless. When I called tech help about their setup utility freezing up, the tech from Middle East wanted me to register the product. I told him I don't want to give out my details specifically if I don't even know if the product will work. He told me he can't enable me if I don't register, so I hung up packed up the router and returned it for a Belkin.

It was inexpensive. It came with clips to make a great stand for it. DOA. Nicely, truly worse than DOA. It sort of worked, see "Other Thoughts". If you're color blind you may be extremely annoyed by the use of multicolored lights to tell you what is happening. If it was simply "lit" or "not lit" no biggy. But for some of the lights there are 2 color options, which looked so similar I couldnt differentiate. I bought this, brought it property and began the installation process. I under no circumstances, EVER got the wireless to function. It would broadcast a signal and the pc would say it was "connected" but it wouldn't in fact go to any sites."Oh, he had it set up wrong!" is what you're thinking. No, I did not. I was setting it up using my pc which is a continual wired connection. I could log into the router, and even got my personal computer onto the net for a period of about 15 minutes. However, it was the worst 15 minutes of connectivity I've had due to the fact perhaps 1996.I was plagued by "cannot uncover page" almost every single time I refreshed. Connection speed was amazingly slow. It was awful. The greatest portion was when it lastly stopped working all-together.I did attempt anything I, and 2 very knowledgeable (read, they setup and run wi-fi networks for their jobs) could assume of. I applied both a Linux and Windows computer system. It was simply junk.

The newest firmware from Netgear (v1..two.26) offers this decent N speeds, albeit capped at 150 mbs. Seems to be a reliable router, even though it couldn't do what I needed it to. Can't use DD-WRT, as this is the WGR614v10 model. I necessary to use this as a client bridge to attach some wired devices in another element of my residence. I really should have just gone with a wireless router on Newegg that had DD-WRT assistance suitable in the product description. I was searching for the WGR614v8 model to apply DD-WRT, but got the WGR614v10 model, which presently does not support DD-WRT. I suppose it's my personal fault for not just doing a search on Newegg for "DD-WRT" and locating a low cost model with which to apply "DD-WRT" firmware. This model has the Broadcom BCM5356שּׁ radio, which is an upgrade from the earlier models. The most current firmware supports N speeds out of the box. This is the same radio as the Asus RT-N10 model, but the DD-WRT firmware is not compatible without some critical programming work.I'm sure in the future that DD-WRT will help this model, but as of threeታ񳏋, it does not. I gave it three begins for very good out of the box choices, N speeds, and reliability. I docked two stars mainly because it can't really do what I need it to do. I bought an Asus NT-R12 rather.

This is an superb router. I have had an earlier version for about 4 years and under no circumstances had a challenge till just recently. I started having "can not find server" difficulties. The new router corrected the difficulty and has greater range and it is faster. Netgear routers are effortless to set up. It only took me a few minutes to get on line. If you are like me just undertaking a replacement, write down the MAC addresses of the devices you want to connect, insert in the new technique and away you go. None.

Simple to setup maybe. If you are not technical, you can buy this router. But if you care about performance, read the cons below Please consider prior to you acquire - 1) This router sucks when handles many simultaneous connections. ie. When you use BT or Emule it'll hang and you're not able to browse something. 2) It's not stable at all, hangs every day for me. I ends up with putting the power next to the table to simply plug/unplug when it hangs! What a joke!three) Wireless signal is extremely poor. I am unable to get signal on my initial floor if my net gear router is on 2nd floor. I mean poor signal on any spot of initial floor, not even mention a lot of blind spots. CONCLUSION - DO NOT Buy THIS Product IF YOU Require TO USE P2P DOWNLOAD. AND DO NOT Get IF YOU Will need Strong 5 BAR WIRELESS SIGNAL. UNLESS IF YOU ONLY USE IT TO ROUTE LIGHT Targeted traffic AND SURF THE NET, AND OK WITH REBOOT IT Every single Once A While.

Simply installed and preforms properly. Internet site is well designed and effortless to get updates for the product. NetGear has a wide choice of merchandise and seems to be ahead of the curve. I ran the setup from a desktop w/XP so I could not test Vista compatibility. My NetGear print server software program was not prepared out of the box. NewEgg is excellent including fast shipping. Can not complain at all! On an average, I'd say 1 out of maybe 15 of these are negative proper out of the box regardless of who's selling it but that's still way better than my many oddball experiences with the WRT54G by far. I'm rating this as "good" because there are better routers out there if you don't thoughts spending an additional ten or twenty bucks. Go for it...I think you won't regret it!!!
