NETGEAR WGR614 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless-G Router
Comment:
It functions with wired connections 100% of the time with no troubles. ....I bought it for the wireless capabilities which it does a poor job of handeling. Half the time I can't even connect by way of a wireless personal computer. I truly have to reset the WPA password to get it to perform (and that only worked 50% of the time). If you rely on wireless networking that will present you with world wide web access this router really should be avoided. If you don't thoughts not getting in a position to connect wirelessly at odd times and still strategy on employing a wired connection then it's fine.

Comment:
This wireless router functions very properly with my Clear.com wireless net modem. My other NETGEAR unit is a DSL modem and wireless router combo. I noted that WGR614 has been enhanced: 1. Config menu: the tech help on the suitable hand side is extremely helpful. 2. The unit has energy and wireless on/off buttons. I have following wireless devices using the router: 1 Television, 1 media player, 3 laptops, 1 desktop and one particular printer which are all working fine now. I hope the router will have good service for years to come. It is difficult to find the version # of this router. I read several critiques in Newegg website and identified out this is V10 so I can better evaluate prices with other sellers. Netgear has excellent help, which is one of the critical consideration when deciding to obtain this router. I recommend to check manufacturer's web site to see if you can get help.

The reviews on NewEgg and that other large retailer named following a certain South American rain forest mostly in Brazil, both produced me skeptical about this hardware, but I ended up deciding the cost was low enough to warrant taking a danger. I picked up my package about fifteen minutes prior to I required to leave for function, and started setting it up, assuming I'd have to finish when I got property later that night. I plugged in an ethernet cable, put in the CD from the box, (I don't like carrying out that as much as the next guy, but what else could I do?), filled out the forms and it was performed. Three minutes, at most. I connected employing Mac OS X 10.four.11, Windows Vista and my roommate's Asus EEE that runs Linux Xandros without having any trouble. Both Wireless and Wired connections by means of it are stable, no periodic disconnections, no wavering bandwidth, and I haven't had to restart it once. I don't have anything to complain about.

Modest footprint, very good range, straightforward setup. Regularly disconnects. This is a Netgear concern that has but to be addressed by them. The only way to deal with this challenge is to recycle the power just about every day or two. It's not worth the difficulty. Come across another router.

Replaced an earlier version of WGR614. This 1 has a power on/off button, really a necessary item on all routers in my encounter, but missing on the earlier version. No cons but. My earlier WGR614 lasted 4 years; I'll be happy if this 1 lasts as lengthy. I regarded as an -N capable router but because I still use an older Encore USB wifi adapter I decided to take the affordable way out. The new router appears much far more than twice as rapidly as the CAT5 cable to my DSL modem that I was utilizing after the old 614 quit - how can that be? 10럼 ethernet ought to be quicker than a 54 Mbps wifi, shouldn't it?

It worked for three months flawlessly. Following three months I had troubles connecting and troubles with speed. Considering that then I purchased a new router and utilizes this as an access point. It's not even excellent at that job. I consistently have to reset it and it takes forever for all my devices to connect to it. Please don't buy this. Save yourself some time and money.

Comment:
I have no problems with how this wireless router works once installed. The signal is robust and was readily available right away soon after I completed the set-up. It even works in the attic of my apartment, although the unit is on the second floor. The item is smaller and light, so it doesn't take up much space or get in the way. The price is incredibly reasonably priced. Set-up was almost impossible on my new MacBook, which runs with Mac OS X. The ReadMe file on the setup disc gave instructions for how to download a converter so the set-up files could be opened on a Mac, Even so, the file listed only works with pre-OS X operating systems. I spent a good hour trying to discover, download, and install a converter for OS X. Immediately after doing all that, the converter nonetheless didn't function, even although I followed all the instructions listed. I ended up abandoning the setup on my Mac, and beginning the method all more than on my ancient Computer desktop. I spent 2 1ǘ hours setting up this router, all because it is not up-to-date, or Mac friendly! Also, you will need to be extra cautious about plugging the Ethernet cords into the correct outlets, or your set-up will fail. Other than that, set-up was fairly easy on the Computer, regardless of my personal computer becoming super old and slow. Do NOT obtain this router if you run on Mac OS X! You are much better off buying a item specially developed for new macs. Even so, set-up on a Computer is reasonably simple and quick, as long as the directions are followed precisely, utilizing the diagrams. If you are a Pc user, fantastic value for the cost!

Comment:
Incredibly effortless to set up initially, looks good with white cosmetics that tend to blend in rather than stick out. Reliable box that works nicely with no needing any reboots, and so on. Excellent wireless range. Antenna is non removable which may be a issue in some installations where high gain or a directional signal could be needed. B and G only, non N device, non Gbit switch. For a ุ property networking box this thing is difficult to beat. It's most likely not suited to really busy high traffic networking but truthfully how several property networking goods genuinely are anyway?

Comment:
Fairly reliable, decent range. A G router's 54 speed is plenty quickly enough for most world-wide-web use. No require to get a faster wireless router for most uses - even Wii games and youtube videos perform fine through this router. Three computers are sharing access with this router and efficiency has been fine. Archaic software program to manage the router, specially relating to security. Feel like I'm back in the days of DOS. :-) Far better if you don't want to restrict use to only authorized devices. But if you have neighbors living comparatively close and wish to limit access, the software to limit access is iffy (one adapter I had would never ever get cleared to pick up the signal no matter what I did). When this model very first came out, critiques had been mixed to say the least. I get the impression that, even more so than automobiles, new models for these smaller electronic devices might need to have a fair quantity of field use before they modify and get it suitable. By the time I got mine, it seems a lot of the early complications had been worked out. I have mine on the stand with a lot of air space around it to reduce the heat concern that could contribute to premature demise of this unit. Been reasonably trouble no cost for over 3 years.

Pros? Well it works as a router most of the time, a fantastic space heater. It will reset itself ofter a period of time. You will be luck if you can connect your Wii or any wireless device to it. Firmware on it well is outdated. Wouldn't recommend this for any person. I was extremely disappointed in the item.

Quick install --for a replacement it was just a matter of switching chords and restarting the modem, solid connection, price, hooks to each PCs and Macs without having issues. The perfect low cost router. It's good for all the things it's intended to be employed for. The 54 Mbps, but when all you're only surfing the net and occasionally watching a video, you don't truly need to have far more. I've had the Netgear MR814v2 due to the fact about 2003 and have only recently required to restart the router when each and every so typically. But due to the fact I don't want to restart it at all, this is its replacement. Netgear has treated me properly in the past and I hope this will continue. I will update this review if anything goes wrong.

I purchased this in March. It was a great piece of machinery. Was excellent and trustworthy and by no means let me down. In no way recall it suffering from any interference, from any dropped packet problems, from any disconnections, just about absolutely nothing went wrong for 5 straight months.. ..And then it just died. Without any warning or indication of anything being amiss, it just totally crapped out on me just brief of 5 months to the day. Dead. Irreparably dead. I'd be fine with an RMA on most goods, but immediately after contacting Netgear, my choices are essentially: Pay บ to ship it and then wait a couple weeks to receive a new 1 (Really not a viable alternative with my situation) or pay the exact same price that I paid for the router in the initially location to have a new one out to me in a day, in addition to the บ a lot more I'd pay for shipping. This factor is going in the garbage can.

it is white, it blinks, it works out of the box, it operates amazing for the initial 2 months. 3 months soon after buy, connection drops rejects requests for renewed ip addresses, will not validate wpa or wep encryption. causes all sorts of havoc more than wired connection for xbox and computer alike.

Effortless configuration; nice firewall features. Worked nicely for the 1st year I owned it...switched ISP and configured for cable modem. The wireless worked excellent for a couple of days then the router began to energy-cycle itself. I attempted a firmware update which seemed to help for a couple days then same concern. I would assume that Netgear does not anticipate you to use this device for more than a year. I have worked with many netgear appliances both at household and here at work. There ProSafe line is outstanding and unmatched for the cost-line...not too confident I will be back for there residence products.

Very good range and speed. It connects two wired and two wireless systems simultaneously with no problems. Runs WoW on wireless at 12 to 20 fps. Been running practically consistently 24ǝ for over two (maybe 3, don't don\'t forget) years. A superior acquire. None As soon as went intermittant then died. Turned out the issue was the power adapter. I replaced it with 1 from my "junk box" and again runs perfectly

Decent Router
Comment:
I've used 3 of these(Own 1 v10) from v8 to v10 and have never had any issues with them. The only difference I've noticed between them is the v10 added QoS and a Bandwidth Monitor to the Settings page, and 3 extra buttons the others didn't have, ''Push N Connect'' and Wifi toggle buttons plus a power button(the other two did not have it). I've never actually needed to reset any of them, I did when I was having issues with my connection but it turned out to be a Time Warner issue not the WGR614. Price is a little high, I paid 39 plus tax at a local store.

This thing works great and was super easy to install and setup. Everything needed was packaged, no need to have to look for a cable or anything elsewhere. Works great with good distance for the wireless. Would purchase again if I needed another one for some reason.
