This drive operates fantastic. Quick, and trusted in my 13" white macbook circa 2007. None. When employing Mac OS the computer will not see the drive when you first boot up, you will have to format it. To do this, as you boot with the install disc, pick utilities>disk utility from the menu bar and partition it, then the set up disc will see it.

It seems more quickly than my old seagate drive which was a seagate 7200.three 250gb drive, both have the free of charge fall sensor which is an awesome feature for a laptop! Not sure I assume I could be commenting on the wrong drive, the free fall sensor drive has ASG in the model. Not a con just a note! So I'm according to newegg reporting on the incorrect drive , nevertheless I do have the ASG model that I got from newegg.Place it into a Dell D830. Copied my old drive with apricorn's hardware and software and no difficulties. The new drive appears more rapidly perhaps simply because I was operating low on space on the old drive..Thought about obtaining a hybrid drive but nonetheless skeptical. Good drive!

It worked for a year as a replacement to the 160 GB drive that came with my ASUS 1005HA netbook. Died in 13 months. Seagate's diagnostic program Seatools pronounced it defective so there was no query of acquiring a new one particular beneath warranty. Nonetheless, Seagate wanted ฤ in order to get the new one just before they received the dead one, NOT REFUNDABLE! I told them I would replace the drive with yet another manufacturer's drive and use the replacement as a paper weight to remind me never ever to obtain Seagate once again. I was getting Seagate drives only due to the fact I was happy with Maxtor, which they bought out a few years ago. So substantially for that! The ASUS 1005HA created this unfortunate dilemma even much less enjoyable, simply because 1 has to tear apart the laptop or computer to get at the difficult drive---BEWARE.

I owned this drive due to the fact it was the stock drive in my PCG-81114L, the pros for a drive is that it works and it did for a year. I expected a laptop tough drive to last longer than 1 year, I guess it did, by one particular month. The drive won't run as key anymore. Data seems there and drive checks out ok. Just refuses to work as major drive on any machine.

Had this in my Mac Mini for 13 months. Worked fine, till this morning. Stopped operating right after a year of extremely restricted use.The Mac Mini is positioned in a awesome space, is hardly ever employed for any processor intensive purposes, and has been asleep most of the previous year. There has been NO anxiety on the drive.I pulled it out and plugged into an external enclosure, but it refuses to spin up. You can hear it trying to spin up in spurts, but it basically doesn't function.Due to the fact it doesn't spin up, I can't even securely delete my sensitive files. I seriously don't want to send it as-is to Seagate for warranty replacement, so I'll in all probability just consume the expense and acquire a new drive... or just go back to the stock drive that came with the pc. I'm quite disappointed with this, since my previous knowledge with 3.five" Seagate drives has been quite fantastic. I have 5 of them in a RAID 5 setup that's been working fine because 2004.This is the first two.five" Seagate I've used. I feel I'll stick with Hitachi for laptop drives.

Rapid, quiet and cool. No extra noticeable heat or noise when compared to the stock 5,400 RPM drive. Accept absolutely nothing less than 7,200rpm. None. Had to give up my internal SuperDrive for the RAID but that's the way that it works when you want 2 drives in a laptop this slim. ten,000rpm would be great. Operating 2 of these in a RAID in my mid-2009 17" Macbook Pro by replacing my SuperDrive with a second drive in a conversion tray. Functionality, as expected, has substantially improved. I no longer dread high I/O operations. Replaced the SuperDriver, that I seldom use, with an External one.

Upgraded a netbook hdd from 160gb to this infant. I'm entirely satisfied. I was misinformed in the past about upgrading netbook hdd's (power usage and heat becoming the greatest argument) but that was rubbish. To be able to upgrade a netbook to this 500gb hdd you'll have all the files you will need in your compact personal computer. None I noticed a slight increase in heat on my netbook but that's not a main con. The infant nevertheless runs quickly and keeps my thighs nice and warm :)

Affordable. Noisy than any other drive I have. It vibrates. I am placing my fingers on it and suddenly is quieter. It is not operating in a Mac Book Pro mid 2009. In truth no other drive works in a Mac Book pro than the OEM. So beware!

Can't think of any. Dead following 2 mos. Over the previous two years I have lost about 7 challenging drives amongst WD and Seagates (mostly seagates). I have two drives which nevertheless function and are over 2 years old, 1 Seagate and 1 maxtor. I read a couple of forums touting how folks have had Seagate drives the lasted for years. Nicely, I do too, but thats one drive out of probably 4 or five and its an older drive. If you have an old Seagate drive that works and performs, hang on to it mainly because the ones created in the final couple years are JUNK. I won't get any far more.

500GB -Started out failure inside three months of purchase-Unreliable Drive started to make 'crunching' sounds within 3 months, and started producing faint 'beep' sound in my laptop not too long ago. I bought a Western Digital drive from NewEgg about a week ago and it is not only drastically more rapidly on boot-up in my laptop, (about 20% it appears), but it is also really quiet. It cost a bit far more, but I would go with the WD drive if you can.I have often purchased Seagate on desktop and laptops and been impressed with their quality. On the other hand, Seagate's 500GB momentus drives, although low cost, seem to have far more difficulties than usual for Seagate.

low cost, quick, capacity. that's it. SUPPOSEDLY. okay. properly. lets see. ordered the initial one, it came. DOA. thought... eh just my luck whatever send it back. New 1 came about a week later. Popped in it my གྷ 15inch macbook pro, DOA. Initialize box wouldn't even seem. Tried it with a bytecc drive mate, nevertheless nothing. Wouldn't even energy up. If this third a single comes and is DOA then I am just gonna get my funds back somehow. Screw newegg. I don't know if it's the brand or the model, but to have two DOA's is pretty uncommon. If i get a third then I can possibly see how a 2012 catastrophe is imminent. I'm a designer. I need to have to have this stuff for school. My disk space appropriate now at this extremely moment is 221mb and this is after deleting images, files, and so forth off of it. Attempt running photoshop, Indesign, aftereffects and bridge all at the very same time with 221mb. not taking place. DOESN'T happen. haha

Substantial Capacity for incredibly tiny expense. Considerably more rapidly than the 5400 RPM drive that it replaced. Drive formatted fine, partitioned fine, and spins with little or no vibration. The drive doesn't appear any louder than the drive it replaced. I don't assume you could go wrong acquiring this drive if you have a laptop or computer that supports a NTFS formatted drive. None. As I was reading all of the negatives I formed an opinion that a lot of the complaints were with installing this drive in a MAC. Seems like I read someplace that MAC drives don't perform adequately with NTFS partitions and must be reformatted with a MAC HFS partition or a FAT (MSDOS) partition. I produced my selection to invest in the drive based upon three other seagate Momentus drives that I have and I was not disappointed. The drive that I received was flashed with 2SDM1 bios if that is of any importance to anybody.

Functions as expected and performs well. My Girlfriend is happy with her 500Gb PS3! Much more space means much more games, movies, and music! Greater than the 200Gb she had ahead of. Tiny performance increase more than the original 5400rpm drive, A lot more would be noticed on a laptop, but you cant anticipate a game method to process information more rapidly.

Noticeably more quickly than the Seagate 5400.6 ST9500325AS drive that it replaced with NO adjustments in vibration, noise, or temperature in my Dell Studio 1737. It didn't image and install itself??? In other words, NO CONS!!! Merely connected each drives to my tower temporarily, ran Acronis to image the old drive to the new (software that will full this job is available Free from the Seagate site), removed the caddy from the old drive and placed it on the new drive, then mounted the new drive in my laptop. All the holes lined up and it installed just like the stock drive that it replaced. As for the noise, vibration, and heat that some are mentioning, maybe Dell is just a better built laptop ;) This is a wonderful drive at a good value. 7200 RPM and 16 MB of cache assist to boost performance rather a lot from 5400 RPMǞMB
