Low-cost, huge capacity - attractive Failed in much less than four months of light load, low reliability - buys be conscious!! I upgraded my T61p working with this drive. The T61p is my laptop or computer for the school so I use it everyday, commonly surfing the I nternet and some Microsoft Office document perform. Starting from three days ago, it started to make louder noise and Lenovo ThankVantage Tool tells me the difficult drive failed Intelligent brief self test.

The Size for the cost is a plus Regardless of how quick this drive runs, or how quiet, and so on and so on... It has lasted for less then 3 months, with quite incredibly moderate usage.

Quiet for speed, cool... I got four of these in my NAS, and right after 6 months, two failed at the very same time. Right after looking at all the negative reviews, I cant trust these drives as they have almost certainly about a 20% opportunity of failure. Replaced them with a new batch of WD drives. Keep in thoughts that not all HD at the identical. There are great batches and poor one. The ones from the poor batch are sold as "desktop" versions for slightly cheaper. They have a higher opportunity of failure. If you obtain a bunch of drives for a raid, spend the money on a good batch.

Quite rapid, really quiet! None It's intriguing that a number of reviewers describe this drive as loud and mention issues with vibration. This replaces a 100GB Hitachi Travelstar in my Dell Latitude 820. The Travelstar- now that IS a noisy drive, but still going strong in an external enclosure. By comparison, the Seagate is super quiet and I haven't skilled any vibration concerns. Even though it was in an enclosure for cloning, I put my ear correct on the enclosure and could barely hear it.

7200 RPM, Actually rapid Read/Write.I will post one more Assessment at a later time to update how this drive is going along Not 500 gigs; it has a max of 465 gigs. This is not a huge deal. I just really feel that 45 gigs missing is some what annoying. When I pay for 500 I anticipate at least 490 gigs or so. This nonetheless, however, is a good drive.

Good price for a drive of this size. Excellent efficiency when in Windows. Some thing is causing the drive heads to continually park, producing a normal clunking sound and causing the technique to pause. Throughout typical usage it is tolerable but for the duration of anything requiring constant disk access it dramatically impacts performance. Unfortnately, I can't discover a firmware update that will resolve this issue on the OS X side. I'd advocate this drive only be purchased for use in a primarily Windows program (no knowledge with other OSes).

Upgraded my Vostro 1400. The original drive was a 160g version of this similar drive. My laptop is used just about every day for at least 12 hours and I've had zero concerns which includes travel across the country. None - works as it should.

I installed this drive as a boot disk in hopes to squeeze some a lot more life out of my work laptop.. initially it seemed to make a major distinction more than a dying 5400 rpm drive. Im positive this drive could function fine as a secondary but whatever you do... DO NOT use this drive as a boot disk. But as I loaded SW, email, and began to use it I noticed some problems. These complications incorporate... The platters spinning down and stalling the technique while they try to spin back up... or fully freezing the program. This occurred during the most basic of tasks... It basically ruined the capability of the PC.. I can no longer use this PC for CAD modeling because reading and writing temporary files crashes the PC. I ended up getting a brand new laptop, and now in order to get my old 1 to work I have to replace the momentus with a typical 7200 rpm drive... A complete lot of wasted time... I went through all of the firmware updates and they didnt help at all. This drive chirps and beeps and makes all sorts of crazy noises Stay Away.. It is Absolutely RIDICULOUS that Seagate released this drive... If I had bought this with my own income as opposed to my business getting it for me. I would be furious. Instead, I just suffered with a messed up quirky laptop for 6 months. Absolutely counterproductive.I will want to buy a fully new drive to replace this one.

Umm.. Can't say too a lot but. Well, I just got to putting it into my ps3 these days, and began it up, and I believed, "Oh boy, a new 500gig challenging drive." It started up, asked me to plug in my controller and press the PS button and I did. Next thing I know it says, "No applicable update information was identified. Connect storage media that contains update information of version 3.55 or later, and then press the Begin and Pick buttons at the very same time." Please aid me an individual. As soon as I've broken it in for a though, I'll make a new assessment.

Reasonably quickly. Not noisy. Runs cool in a decently ventilated laptop. I've owned two of them, and each have died. On to the third... My initial drive had poor sectors that I noticed shortly outside of the timeframe in which I could have returned it to NewEgg. Following exchanging with Seagate, I got a refurb'd drive. Fine -- if it works, I'm pleased. Effectively, about 1 year later, the drive intermittenly locks up, causing Windows to lock up for a couple of seconds at a time; after which it makes the most awful mechanical noise ever. However, the Intelligent measurements don't reflect this mechanical problem (that I can tell...), and Seagate's SeaTools app is worthless for revealing this kind of mechanical problem. Sending back to Seagate without having a valid Seatools error code risks that they'll reject your returned drive, send it back to you, and charge you shipping. Gimme a break! What else can I do with a drive that *intermittently* makes a screeching noise and locks up but otherwise checks out wholesome with Seatools?

capacity, speed Vibration is to a lot much more severe than expected. Employed in Thinkpad T400. I can always feel the trembling when I rest my hands on the pad. It even dumb my hands in lengthy time keyboard usage. Force me to turn to an external keyboard whenever doable.

Decent price for a 500GB 7200RPM harddrive. Cause system crashes, and kinda slow (i'm use to SSD's so that may possibly be the reason. Got this drive to replace my SSD drive which was my major. My SSD was working fine but it only had 120gb, and if i were to install my games into my secondary harddrive it causes lag. I got this factor hoping to replace my SSD. It is actually slow and crash my computer system each 1 or 2 hours. Ahead of i installed it my laptop in no way crashed EVER. Wish i knew that seagate made unreliable harddrives, then i wouldnt have purchased it.

QuickLarge drive, for a laptopthree-year warranty None I've seen some reviews complaining about the noise of the drive. I can't hear it at all. I hear the fan on my laptop when it speeds up to cool down my CPU, but in no way the drive. Not even when the fan is at its slowest speed. I've purchased a lot of Seagate drives over the years, and so far this one is meeting all expectations.

The superior – I really like the 500 GB of space and the speed. The drive was also a lot of quieter than the original drive. I also like the warranty. Seagate didn’t give me any hassle when I wanted to get a replacement however they wanted me to pay shipping. Poor high quality. I use to only purchase Seagate but this drive has me rethinking it. The drive was working good up until it stopped working without having warning. Not even BIOS recognize it is plugged in. I have been told it is a firmware concern that Seagate has with a lot of their drives and they don’t have a fix so the drive is unusable and the information is unrecoverable (at least I my price range). I was in the middle of a backup when the drive just stopped communicating with the personal computer. I do a lot of recovery on drives with corrupt partition tables or poor MBR, updating firmware, and so on. but I don’t have a clean room for taking apart the drives so I took it to a data recovery specialist and was told that these drives have a common issue with firmware where they fill up the log and go into a busy state and then they won’t communicate with the pc. Currently Seagate has not released a fix for this issue and appear to just being ignoring it. As for the warranty they will give me a new drive but I have to pay shipping. This in my opinion is poor customer service! I purchased a drive from them and now because of a manufacture defect in the firmware I have to pay additional funds? This is ridiculous! Hopefully the return will go smoothly and they will have fixed the firmware concern.
