used Seagate Wizard and followed instructions to clone my old drive. Worked great as soon as I caught on and changed my Laptop energy saving setings to not hibernate... Installed cloned drive into laptop and it booted from new drive on first try.

Fast and Quiet
Comment:
Downloaded the cloning software from Seagate. A couple disconcerting things during the cloning. Some sectors were not readable, finally ignored all. Then the laptop went into a sleep mode and the screen would not display. I monitored the disk activity and kept it going by touching the mouse pad occasionally. Machine did shut down after completion. Swapped out the drives and it booted and has performed flawlessly. The drive is noticeably faster, Vista disk performance went from 4.8 to 5.9. Can't tell any difference in battery life. It is also quieter than the Hitachi it replaces.

Cons:shorter battery life

Pros:fast, quiet, lots of storage
Comment:
Very happy with this replacement in my laptop. Replaced my 80gb 5400rpm. Much faster boot up time and tons of storage. Price is dropping more and more making this a very good deal.

Simple the best
Comment:
I could not be happier with this drive. It is fast and quiet. Not to mention huge for a 2.5 drive. This drive is super quiet, fast, and very cool even after running 24 7 for about 3 weeks now. I use this drive in my laptop next to my TV in the living room to watch movies from it and to download netflix. something is always up or downloading or playing with out a single moment of lag. I can't say enough about it's quality and performance. I will buy a second for my wifes laptop soon.

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB 2.5IN SATA 7200RPM 16MB Notebook Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Sometimes makes a clicking sound

Pros:Good performance
Comment:
I bought this drive for my IONITX-A motherboard and since I was building a small media center PC, I had to go with a 2.5 inch hard disk drive. It has good performance and low temperatures (between 30C and 35C). Sometimes you will hear it clicking, but it is nothing serious. This review was modfied by poster @ 10-20-09 07:13 PM

Cons:None that I can think of

Pros:Smalllarge capacity
Comment:
This is a great harddrive. I bought it to use it as an external drive (easy to carry around) instead of using it as a laptop HDD replacement.I can easily store files in there and carry them around instead of burning them onto DVD discs and carry a whole bunch of those.5 stars just because there's nothing wrong with it.

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB 2.5IN SATA 7200RPM 16MB Notebook Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Relatively expensive

Pros:Highest 2.5" drive capacity currently (August 16th, 2009), 7200 rpm
Comment:
The drive itself is fine, I'd give it 5 stars if not for the price. I bought one of these to hookup to my Wii, and wanted the fastest one to reduce loading times so thus I only looked at 7200 rpm but was annoyed to see that it comes with a $30 premium over 5400 rpm based 500 GB drives, which is quite a bit of gouging in my opinion. However, I paid what I had to, otherwise it runs fine, fairly quiet, good capacity for the size though I'm sure some perpendicular improvements will erode that a bit this year and SSL drives by quite a bit next year.

Comment:
I needed more room and had been looking at Scorpio Black but then I saw this 500GB. Put one in my Dell laptop to replace the 100GB factory disk that was full. Bought the USB/E-SATA enclosure as well since I already had an ExpressCard34 E-Sata adapter. Used Seagate Disk Wizard to clone disk and swapped in new disk, then put the 2nd 500 GB in the enclosure. They both average about 85MB/s on HD-Tach, twice as good as USB. The enclosure is just plastic but it doesn't get warm. It also says limited to 250GB but it works fine with the 500GB. I used up 64GB to install software and put 100GB of photos and video on the disks (duplicate copies) on the vacation of a lifetime. So far they work great.

Great replacement drive for MacBook Pro
Comment:
Excellent performance, restored a Time Machine backup about 200GB in size in about an hour and 40 minutes! ... Replaced a Hitachi Travelstar 5K320 5400rpm drive in a 2.66GHz MacBook Pro. Well worth the upgrade, I was hesistant at first thinking there might not be any noticeable difference between a 5400rpm and a 7200rpm drive. Definitely the higher platter density in this drive makes the difference in speed.

Pros:Good drive, good value

Picked this up on sale for $133 and installed in my new Mac Mini, replacing the factory drive (for extra capacity and higher speed). No complaints so far, works like a charm; transfer speed seems very decent.

Excellent Upgrade!
Comment:
I bought two of these from the store in Clearwater to replace the 160gb drives in my Toshiba X205-9359. I record and edit both audio and video with them and have no complaints. They are incredibly fast and don't seem to run any hotter than the 5400rpm units they replaced. I will be buying more to have portable drives for my business.

Great HDD!
Comment:
I ordered this drive from here like usual it arrived in about three days. It worked beautifully from the get-go (installed in my Lenovo 3000 G530 to upgrade on the stock 160 GB HDD). Though I don't have any benchmarks to share, the drive is perceptibly much quicker to load programs and files than the drive it replaced, making the system feel more responsive and making the experience of using the computer easier and more enjoyable. Despite it's speed, this 7200 RPM beast really doesn't run very much hotter than the HDD I pulled out and I haven't noticed much of a change in battery life, though there is a very slight vibration under the left side of the keyboard above where the HDD bay is located on this machine. I would most certainly buy this again.

Fast HD, Good Deal, AWESOME Performance!
Comment:
I bought this hard disk to upgrade my MacBook. The disk performs very well. Mine arrived with the new firmware, 0002SDM1. The drive is a bit more expensive than the others, but it is a 7200RPM 500GB HD, which is top end for a notebook by today's standards. The only thing I wish it had was the optional G-Shock protection, as I'd like hardware-level protection for another notebook. However, the MacBook has a Sudden Motion Sensor to handle this, so it was unnecessary for me. The model with this is ST9500420ASG (note the G). Here are the benchmarks on my system (XBench): Sequential: Uncached Write 88.68 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 80.51 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 17.95 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 91.49 MB/sec [256K blocks] Random: Uncached Write 1.25 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 42.75 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 0.38 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 24.23 MB/sec [256K blocks]

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB 2.5IN SATA 7200RPM 16MB Notebook Hard Drive OEM
Comment:
Great performance - fastest hard drive in its class and 1/4 the cost of an SSD. Works without flaw in my Macbook Pro and boosts transfer rates by 10-15% over 320GB 7200 rpm drives or 500GB 540 rpm drives. Quiet. Highly recommended.

Comment:
I had one and failed since the begining, so I had to return it. This is the third consecutive Seagate hard drive of five that I have had, that fails since the begining. I do not think I will have confidence to buy a seagate product in a long time and I know we are many with the same problem.
