Operates good, recognized various drives from various suppliers, sizes and speeds without any glitches on a Win7 64bit OS HP laptop. Other than the loose screw I would have givent this an additional egg. Rattled when initially opened. Identified loose screw from base. Reinstalled screw but appears to be stripped. Superior Excellent Handle

Cons:Doesn't seem to balance properly on my tables

Pros:Easy to setup and feels solid

Bought this so I could backup data from an old PC that was no longer booting. Works as advertised, although it doesn't quite sit evenly on my table. Seems like one of the corner pads wasn't glued properly, but not a deal breaker by any means.

Plugged it into my Intel DP55WG and it worked devoid of an problem with the USB cable I have not got it to function with the eSATA cable. It could be an problem with the card, or it may well be the SATA RAID software program, not confident. That's the purpose I gave it 4 out of five eggs. Had it worked with the eSATA card I would have offered it 5 out of 5. This is a small wonderful unit consider the truth that I have about 20 SATA drives with video material on them, so possessing 20 unique enclosures is not worth it. This unit is!

Very good product Buyer beware of ThermaltakeUSA rebate submission requirements. Received produce on 6ቪ, filed on the net rebate and sent rebate documents on 6ቱ. (Waited a week to make positive product worked as advertised) ThermaltakeUSA requires a Challenging stance on submitting your rebate Within 20 days of receiving your product. Post Office should have lost my rebate due to the fact it was by no means DATE STAMPED until 7ǝ ƒ-weeks later).ThermaltakeUSA documented they received my documents on 7ቬ then denied me my บ rebate on eightቦ. Buyer Service was not valuable for a MISLY บ. Now on to the New York State Attorney General to file a complaint. Have applied as both USB and eSATA external drive. Currently working with to back up two internal HDD onto a Seagate 1.5TB HDD. Bought it to recover as significantly data as achievable from a WD HDD (second WD program drive that has failed on me). Performs as advertised and overheating is not an problem. Calls for power brick. I would purchase this once again.

The first unit I received was DOA. But, just as I've read right here time soon after time, NewEgg RMA functions really effectively... The second unit operates exactly as advertised. I haven't tried the eSata however, but the USB is wonderful. Because of 1st unit becoming DOA it took a lengthy time to lastly get 1 that worked.

Beats possessing to purchase an external case for every drive I want to use for archive and backup purposes. Big wall wart transformer. Additional high-priced than the USB only wide variety. Would choose eSATA only - the potential to switch in between the two has to be the reason for the extra price. There appears to be only one particular manufacturer of these devices. Except for the logos on the front, this is identical to the other one particular I have at property and the two I use at operate - all three from other different "manufacturers".The next time one of my "movable" units becomes a permanent attachment to a machine, I'll pay a few much more dollars and avoid the rebate hassle. (Their web page defaults to a lower rebate that they promise to "expedite." If you insist on the full quantity, it takes an additional 3 months.)

When it operates, it's superb. There's an engineering flaw. My ST0005U died 3 weeks ago, soon after six months and possibly a dozen hours of actual use. If a drive was popped into the dock, it wouldn't even spin up. Last week, I removed the two screws on the bottom of unit and disassembled it, hoping to spot the difficulty. Seeing nothing at all certainly wrong, I set out to reassemble the dock--and failed. I lastly realized that the dock's combined I/O-power connector block was canted and pushed down a little. I had apparently dropped a drive into the dock at a slight angle. Instead of the drive connectors mating with the dock connector, the drive connectors had pushed the dock connector down enough to make it impossible for the connectors join correctly. It's feasible to push the dock connector downward simply because it isn't flush against the Pc board. That's bad engineering.I carefully returned the dock connector to its proper place, and the dock once once more works appropriately.

Recognized By Mac OS X Snow Leopard as soon as I installed device driver for eSATA Express Card. 1. Backup felt slower than Firewire 800 on yet another 7200 rpm drive. two. 3.five" tricky drive plugged in vertical position does not really feel snug.3. Snow Leopard's Boot from External Drive function does not recognize this setup by means of the eSATA Express Card I utilized for generating the bootable backup of my Mac hard disk. Operate nevertheless for the very same setup by way of a USB cable. Am concerned about long term handling of unprotected three.5" difficult drive. I need to have to locate some way to seal the exposed wiring the hard drive. Any ideas?

Cons:no eSATA 6Gbpsno hdd covers

Pros:convenientboth esata and usb ports

Works as intended, no real complaints. Got this to replace an older USB2.0 only BlackX and stopped working (getting usb power surge messages whenever I plug it into any PC). Would have been nice to have an eSATA 6Gbps port for when you plug in an SSD. This one doesn't come with the hard drive covers like with the USB3.0 version.

The product works good. A lot more rapidly than USB2 interface The บ rebate is a Thermaltake scam. They give you a tracking quantity and supposedly it's provided "approved" status but they never ever send the rebate. Now the status is no longer even available and the 800 quantity to contact is not in service. No more Thermaltake items for me. Do these companies not understand thousands of potential prospects read these evaluations?

Hassle-free, simply worth the cost. This is the third Thermaltake docking station I've bought and the initial a single I've had difficulty with. The others nevertheless work like new. Blue energy LED worked for a couple of minutes, intermittently. Now it never ever operates. The docking station functions well otherwise. It's not worth the cost of shipping to return it. Hot swapping operates well on USB. With an eSATA connection, the pc doesn't readily detect drive modifications. Even going through the device manager to detect hardware changes, it won't often detect the new drive. This difficulty occurs on each Win7 and XP. Utilizing a PCI eSATA card (rosewill rc-210), the drive swap will be readily detected if the docking station is switched off, the drive swapped and then the docking station switched back on. These problems are almost certainly not the fault of the Thermaltake docking station. Possibly these notes will support others.

I even have to reboot the pc most of the time, but from time to time it swill uncover that I swapped out a dive.Power button on back of unit.Eject button is extremely weak. I don't dare use it by itself. I make sure I am pulling on the tough drive though pressing the button.Desires some brushes or some thing to aid seal the drive when plugged in so things don't fall into the bay place.Demands to come with or in a position to obtain some drive sleeves to help protect the drive circuitry so it doesn't get shorted out, or damaged when stored. All in all this is a really fantastic device for sustaining my family and friends computer system. I can make drive image backup and restores in a snap. It's a tiny awkward to port around, but operates fantastic. the added USB is a good safeguard as properly.I broke the LED light when I purchased it thinking it was a power button. I pressed firmly, but not challenging and it broke loose. It nevertheless functions fine, but it kind of dangles in there.I only took off one star for all the cons since the pros make it worth it in the extended run. There could be other manufactures that make a far more function rich version, or maybe there is a newer updated version of the BlacX. Just verify about before acquiring.I also advise this really much in spite of the cons. It has been incredibly reliable and has usually worked so far, and I've been employing it for over a year now. Manufacturer Response:Hello MarkJohnson,The motherboard's eSATA port or your eSATA card has to assistance "hot swappable" eSATA connections. If it does not support "hot swap" connections then a restart will be needed for the process to recognize the drive. In some situations, removing a drive from an external device that is connected eSATA, may well result in a technique hang. In these situations or situations, the system would need to have to be restarted each time the drive is to be changed. This is not an concern thru USB as USB is natively hot swappable. If you have any further queries on this problem or other people than please speak to us at ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com. We can also replace the unit beneath warranty for the damaged LED.Thermaltake Customer Service

Effortless backup of your valuable data to a drive(s) that can then be stored in a safe place. Straightforward clone of C drive to lower the likelihood of a Windows reinstall...who desires to reinstall all those updates or the apps it took you a week to configure the way you wanted them. Portable really should the need to have arise and accepts two.five" drives. Solid construction was impressive...it's got some weight to it. 1. At 1st bios recognized drive, but Windows 7 did not. Downloaded driver (INI_FCFG_V03.14A05) from manufacturer's site and this solved the issue. two. Rebate...I hate these rebate presents. They put you by way of a huge rigmarole to redeem them, and then you wait months to get your dollars...if you ever do get it. Only 3 out of the five rebates I've taken benefit of have been honored. This is not the fault of Newegg (great company, fantastic client service) or the manufacturer, but the 3rd party organizations responsible for honoring the rebates. There was a man from Nantucket...

Cons:- No USB 3.0, but if you've got the eSATA ports this isn't an issue.

Pros:- eSATA is perfect- Looks good- 3.5" and 2.5" drives both fit nice and snug
Comment:
Love the speeds with eSATA. With my 1Tb WD Black drive I get the same speeds as I would if it was plugged in by SATA (of course). Trumps USB 2.0 speeds by a LARGE margin. The dock looks good, and all hard drives I've tried in it so far fit nice and snug unlike another similar dock I have from another company.Would definitely recommend this dock as long as you have the eSATA ports to support it. If not, USB 3.0 is a nice alternative.
