Affordable! User Friendly! This enclosure does not have any ventilation, no fan, not even a single pin hole opening. The aluminum casing can get so hot that you can not even touch it with an open hand. My drive keeps shutting off and performing erratically. I would not suggest this item unless you need to have a temp external drive.

Nice price, looks, and manufacturing high quality. I was suprised that it came with an SATA to eSATA bracket too. The LED cable must be a few mm longer to assist stop clipping when placing the case together. Make sure your SATA chipset supports hot-plug. If it does not, you may possibly as nicely look at this an external space consuming internal harddrive. You'll have to leave it connected for it to be recognized. Or, you can just use the USB port.

Performs like a champ with an older Seagate Barracude 320gb and a newer 1tb, with all major OS's. Cool and quiet. No genuine complaints other than the LED connector. It is just poorly made, as it jams into the drive and the aluminum housing as you slide it in. It's too vibrant for me anyways so I've disconnected it. I noticed some reviewers had discussed the wired SATA connection. I've owned an older model for about 2 years (since late 2006) and lately purchases this a single from newegg. Functionally, they are the same, but the inner connection has changed from a wired SATA/power plug to a fixed connector. The inner rail is less bulky also.

Installation was extremely uncomplicated. eSATA has provided me no hassle. The internal power cable for the led is too long. Ships in an unnecessarily large box.

I purchased two of these. They worked excellent, correct out of the box (used with Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EACS 1TB SATA). I was a tiny skeptical at initial, because of the difficulties other reviewers reported, but I didn't knowledge any. No above-heating; stayed cool for hours. The drive slips in/out of case very very easily. The power cable can be a tiny tricky to connect. Really fantastic excellent. Come with everything necessary, even a power supply. I have numerous enclosures from Vantec. I actually like their products.

Aluminum construction which dissipates heat greater. It is straightforward to work with and fully silent. eSata is very quick but possessing that USB connector there as well is always a plus. I bought three of these Vantecs over a period of 2 years (from Newegg, I am a long-time customer), and all 3 perform perfectly. I run EIDE drive in 1, SATA driver in the two others. No difficulties not a single. XP, Vista and W7 Ultra all instantaneously recognized them, and they are rapidly and flawless. None whatsoever. The engineering has a tight fit in the rear for SATA cable connection. No issue, just meticulously "scrunch" them with each other. Serves to hold the plugs tight into the sockets. That is not a problem, just an observation. Drive takes a small footprint on your desk, I never ever had any overheating or issues with any of them.I am about to put an order in for this 1 for another a single of my customers for image backup.

Good alternatives for USB2. or eSATA. Came with both cables as effectively. The cable for the light is pretty weak and brief. Be careful when pulling out your HD as to not break it. Not confident if its my eSATA or this, but I get BSOD when attempting to boot Vista Ulti x64 with this turned on.

Nice solid aluminum situation. HD bracket seemed to be safe adequate, no vibration sounds. Can lay it flat or vertical. Matched my shiny Samsung HDTV! Bit pricey for a smaller tiny situation, but does have high quality.

My desktop was quite unstable with this working more than eSATA until I set the external drive to run at 1.5Gbps with a jumper. If Vantec is not prepared to repair the 1 significant complaint with this enclosure, they want to take into account lowering the cost to compete with other cases that do operate with three.0Gpbs drives.

Does what it says for the most element. Has issues with 3gb/s and esata on my dell studio xps 1340, causing a hang whenever it was plugged in. A speedy search led me to jumper limit my WD 750 to 1.5gb/s, seems to be operating fine after that. It's dimensionally identical to the similar searching Antec (not Vantec) enclosure sold here, they stack together nicely.

Figured out why it didn't operate... it's not hot swappable on eSATA without having AHCI. At least it functions. Not hot swappable like my other eSATA drive, even after rebooting, discovering, and formatting. To see it, I require to reboot with the drive on. couldn't get this to function on my machine. had another eSATA drive which worked. concluded incorrectly that the unit was negative. The other unit would be found when connected; this one particular will not. I needed to reboot with this drive connected to get my machine to see it. Looks nice, enclosure case is of great develop high quality Refused to perform with a new WD Caviar Green 1TB SATA three.0Gb/s. Refuses to spin up the drive when employing USB two. (Did not attempt eSATA). This drive performs fine utilizing a Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2. Adapter. Classy-seeking and, most importantly, trustworthy in the long-run. For the reliability alone, I give it five starts. It is fanless, so it definitely runs hot, though I haven't had any drives fail (I leave my drives operating 24x7). But its aluminum body disipates the heat properly adequate, so can't really complain right here. Also, the wire powering the blue LED light is a slightly awkward to plug in, finding in the way of the final closing of the HDD in the situation. But no large deal.
