This enclosure is my third enclosure so far, and my first Vantec one. As soon as you open the box, you know this is top quality. The finish is very nice, and the hard drive installation is innovative and secure. The supplied eSATA connection allows transfer speeds upwards of 70 Mbytes/s (that's bytes, not bits!). Excellent enclosure!

Excellent Drive Enclosure, This is the 3rd one I've ordered and haven't had a problem yet. They've recently revised the internal design for easier hdd installation as well. eSata works great for large file transfers. I don't use the stand (they have small rubber feet on one side when laying flat, and are also stackable) although they don't have any fans or ventilation so this may help with cooling, I find they do get quite warm when left on for awhile so I tend to use mine with usb so I can turn them off when not needed. All around great enclosure and they match my NZXT Lexa =)

Excellent performance from both USB & eSATA, looks great, although I don't see why they had to make the light on it so bright. Durable too, I dropped it from a few feet (w/ HDD) and it's fine. I've always been a fan of Vantec.

I purchased this enclosure along with a Western Digital SE16 500GB SATA2 (SKU: 23266) drive in order to back up my MacBook Pro before upgrading to OS 10.5. I used "SuperDuper!" to create a bootable image of my laptop HD in case my Leopard upgrade went south. I have since had to boot from the enclosure several times via USB2 and my laptop has been quick enough to use like normal. Moreover, after several hours of constant use, the enclosure was warm but not hot - even though it doesn't have a fan.Now, if only my MacBook had eSATA...

it's an amazing enclosure, it is the best there is, it is fast, reliable, good looking and price is right, but the only draw back is if you plug in both usb and eSATA, you won't be able to access the drive, even if one of the connection is not even active ( say i have a laptop and desktop, i use desktop to access eSATA while the usb from this enclosure is connected to laptop through usb, i won't be able to access the drive like this) it is a small thing, but still kind of annoying.

Great enclosure but it does get quite hot with my WD 500GB harddrive. Maybe a vent or a small fan would help in future designs. Other then that this Enclosure has been superb.
