The LED can be easily unplugged if not desired, but I found that the edge of the front face redirects the light so its never in your eyes when its on your desk. Recently I've noticed that if you leave the power chord plugged in (but switched off) the enclosure doesn't boot up properly afterwards. It might be something to do with it not getting enough power but it takes a couple tries (if not more) to get it going afterwards. The manual or manufacturers website wasn't helpful in trying to determine what the problem was, however its been working alright recently. When I phoned up support they said they would replace it, but it hasn't come down to that yet. |

Bought this for someone I know. Also have the eSATA Vantec Nexstar, and just like mine, it has a really short power cable.Doesn't have eSATA but this is for a notebook that doesn't have eSATA. I can't even get eSATA working on my Nexstar anyway.Recommended if you don't care for eSATA. |

I have two of these with 1TB WD Green drives. One is on a PC and the other is on a satellite PVR. This is a perfect combination and works flawlessly for both applications. |

I used this enclosure to add a 1TB drive capacity to my media center.Installation was really easy. Nice quality aluminum that can dissipate the heat of the HD. It can be switched on or off which is quite useful for me.Don't forget you need to format the new drive before you can see it on Windows!Only negative... I have the other Vantec enclosure which has USB/eSata/Firewire interfaces. I never used any other interfaces except the USB. Brought that at double the price. Recently brought this one with just the USB interface. I am only using it as an enclosure for a backup harddrive and I love it. Can connect to anything with USB for just half the price. Worth it for the price. |

I read about some people complaining about an overly bright LED...but why even bother connecting it if you are just going to complain about it? I don't think you really need that LED to tell you the drive is on. It's quite obvious when it's on.Anyway, the case doesn't get too hotl and the HDD maintains a fairly quiet operation in the case. The USB connection is good, as is the power. I got this case for $18 and would purchase again in the future. |

Bought two of these this week for photo storage. Put a 500GB drive in each one, which took only a matter of minutes between the two of them. Drives fit the case snugly and don't flop around. That said, I can see two area where these external cases could be improved, rubber feet for stacking (I might just get some rubber feet from a dollar store) and making the base fit the case a little tighter, as it is loose on both of mine. This is fine for the most part, but it does make me a little nervous to bump my desk while the drives are on. |

I bought it cause I needed to be able to tote files around on an external drive and wanted something a little more cool looking than my older N-Gear silver box. Transfer rates are pretty good, does get a little warm under heavy use. And the LED is way way too bright, though I solved this with a little bit of black electrical tape... (so much for the cool look! :D) |
The adapter blew up. I was plugging the cord into a high end power surge protector and the sparks started to fly. It destroyed the surge protector and the case; the jury is still out on the hard drive.
