This is fantastic sized external for the price tag. I did a tiny study and I've generally loved WD items. They did it suitable with this external. The matte black leading and bottom are nice with a piano black finish on the sides makes this a genuine beauty. Also this drives keeps pretty cool even when doing large data transfers. Thanks Western Digital for undertaking it yet again =) USB cord that came with is a bit briefDrive a little heavy. But who cares it sits on a desk. 1.81 TB actual space. No worries though as I'm barely filling it 1ቬ of the way so far.

This is a nice external USB Difficult Drive. Quiet! And, I think a fantastic worth for the income. The replacement from Western Digital is excellent! The original drive lasted 30-days with 3 or 4-hundred GB of backup Data lost and I had to have a replacement thru Western Digital. On day a single before putting the original shipped hard drive into service, I noted lousy "speed readings" when checking the drive with a diagnostic utility. My thinking, hey, drives don't go poor for me. Guess once more. Need to have paid a lot more focus to my diagnostic. At times, goofy items happen to good goods. I would buy a different if I necessary a single. And, if you feel your Challenging Drive is acting weird, verify it with a single of the cost-free diagnostics out there from either the manufacturer or one of the "safe" software download web sites.

The pros are that for a 2TB HDD it is a excellent weight for the quantity of storage space however modest sufficient so it requires up small of my desk space. The light on it is a good unobtrusive size and color but must be on the other side IMO facing away from all the cables. At 1st I could get it to do some modest file back ups. Then when it was set to do a Win7 process backup it failed to complete the job due to I/O errors. It just sat there with the light blinking and performing absolutely nothing. I checked all my connections, tested my USB ports and all the widespread sense points just to be 100% positive. Nevertheless it failed to back up significantly and promptly got progressively worse. Till it was I/O error soon after error.More I/O errors till it was unable to do any file backup. I failed at its a single and only purpose....file backup. I see some other individuals purchasers with the same I/O errors. WD get some actual quality into your QC. You had to have known about this main dilemma with so quite a few other individuals possessing the exact same I/O errors on the identical drive. This is obviuosly not a random or rare occurance.Even though this is a useless external challenging drive a stand would have added a nice touch. WD devote some dollars on making a high quality drive that looks like good quality also. I RMA'ed it and will be getting the new drive later today. I hope this one particular does what it supposed to do. Its only goal is to store files...period. If it can't do that then it shouldn't be for retail sale. Test mass quantities of these units throughly ahead of you marketplace it. Don't believe just due to the fact it is a WD drive that indicates it is flawless. I have been a WD fan for years but this drive has me rethinking my brand loyalty. I have a four year old 750GB My Book that is nonetheless operating like nicely. I hope the new 2TB will show it up.WD requirements greater QC. That indicates constant, rigorous testing before putting it in the retail marketplace. You don't have your clients do your QC for you. I will be searching at other brand names. If this new a single wants to be RMAed it will be my last WD product. WD you are no longer my go to brand. I wish I would have read every single negative assessment rather of trusting the WD name and blinded by a wonderful deal. WD you have lost my trust and my future $$$.

This drive is remarkable, whisper quiet, fast transfers, and a lot of space. I swear this drive doesn't make a sound when it's operating, I've never ever had an external difficult drive so quiet. I get about 20-30 mb/sec when transferring files which I'd contemplate pretty rapid. Simple installation (just plug and play) and no issues at all. None. It's doesn't have USB three. assistance but I don't have any computers that do either and it's nonetheless new tech. If you want the most space you can get in an external challenging drive choose this up. I never ever owned a Western Digital drive just before, but I'm a consumer for life now.

Would've had a lot of storage at a good price tag. Wasn't recognized by either of my computers, 1 running Vista, 1 running XP. Tried multiple USB ports and 3 different cables. My old 1TB drive operates fine in all of the same ports so it's not the computers. Need to've listened to all of the unfavorable critiques right here and elsewhere about these drives. Ah, nicely, at least the return policy is straightforward.

I've been employing this for a couple of months now and it does specifically what it is supposed to. I use this as an added drive to back up files and the speed appears fine. (Pretty considerably runs over night so not a big deal to me) Wonderful value for the funds Not truly. Longevity will be the true test but so far so great.

2TB of storage for 89.99 bucks! USB 2. is fantastic, ESATA would have been even greaterAppears if you have a win 7 and winxp machines on the very same network, the individual on XP has to refresh to see changes made to the drive when dragging and dropping. Odd but not a big deal. I'll never fill this up, but I'll have a lot of enjoyable attempting. With a total of 3TB storage I'll by no means will need far more HDD space again.

The cost was great for the big size. Much less than 2 months of owning this, it has sat on my desk stationary. I had to reinstall windows and it showed the drive but said it was empty (although it had 1.5TB of motion pictures)Next day I plug it in again, windows tells me it has to format the disk Soon after i unplug it. Place my ear close to it and click click click. When it was working HD inspector reported the drive idling at 115F, in comparison my Hitachi 2TB even though being used as a boot drive even though I was playing games was about 85F I would switch to Hitachi as I have two of their drives and they run cooler but WD just bought them out. I am seriously tired RMAing WD drives. I at present personal maybe 9 or ten WD drives, half of them have had to be RMA'd. I don't think I can bring myself to use WD any longer right after losing such massive amounts of data.Hopefully I can locate all the original packaging otherwise I have to pay like ษ for an "advanced" RMA

Bought mine for ๩.00 on sale, took the HD out of it's case and installed it in my Computer case, what a savings!! ;- ) None, works wonderful for storage, wouldn't use it for a boot drive but then again who would it's as well huge. I have used WD merchandise because I have been into computers and have had no problems, still have my 1st generation 150 gig raptor.

the plug and play on this HD is fantastic. All I did was hook it up to the USB port and it was prepared to go. I back up all my stuff it was great. 2 months later it stopped operating. I am in a position to see the device in the disk drive of the device manager but I'm not in a position to use windows explorer to reach my data. I read some men and women have place the HD in the freezer to retrieve info but I haven't gotten to that point yet. I also tried tweak UI to no avail.

Low noise, modest...it just operates. Got this when it was on sale for ๩/each. Wish the led activity indicator was up front as an alternative of the back. Other than that. Wonderful product. I currently use it as a back up to my existing backup solution for all of my media (movies, music, photographs, information, etc) Basically, once all the data is backed up, I shut it off and ship it away to a different location. The thing just functions.

I have had this hdd for 10 months. Everything worked perfectly, until one day it was knocked over, and the case snapped and broke. However to my suprise, despite a 5 foot drop, the hdd is still kicking stongly, and even faster with the new enclosure it is in. By the way, its a western digital green SATA.

Quiet, performs! Didn't worked at very first, thought It was DOA like a lot of critiques right here says. A driver was showing but unable to make It function and recognised. Called WD who attempted a couple of points but no can do. Contacted Newegg for replacement. Was about to fill the invoice and then had a brief power failure at my place. five minutes later when the power was back, my desktop rebooted by itself and magic! It instantly recoginsed the HD...! No idea why and what happened within the drive with the energy failure but It's been 8 months and in no way had an concern considering that. And I did two Win7 install due to the fact. Works like a charm! USB cable rather brief.
