Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:USB 2.0
Pros:CapacityPrice Comment:
Very nice product, clean finish. On the up side, I paid 99$ for this hard drive. On the down side, I think they're making space in the storage room for the USB 3.0 HDDs.It's a green drive in it (not the black one).If you're looking for a quick external add-on, this is your best bet. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:None really
Pros:PriceCapacity Comment:
Its a 2tb hard drive in a simple box. There's no stand or any fancy mounting options, which I prefer. There's some kind of autoplay pre-installed on the drive which Avira thinks is a virus. I just deleted it. Aside from that, there's no garbage software taking up space USB 2.0 speeds so don't expect something terribly fast. |

Cons:None yet.
Pros:Quiet, Low power consumption reasonable transfer speeds. Comment:
I picked up one of these about 7 months ago and it's worked flawlessly for my media files. Bought another just a month ago and so far they are working great. These do go into an idle mode and will take a few seconds to get the platters up to speed before they read/write. |

Comment:
Low cost, smaller, quiet. SLOW?! I'm acquiring four.3M bytes/second sustained write. I got two drives, and am testing them on two unique computers (Kubuntu Linux) and I'm getting only four.3M Bytes/Sec of write speed. That's way too slow. USB2. can support closer to 40mbyte/sec, and modern day drives normally simply support 20mbyte/second writes. Is any individual else having slow (or quickly?) writes - in what OS? Thanks! |

Comment:
Drive is good and quiet, no issues so far. Did have an concern with the Acronis Software program blue screening my Windows 7, but that is an optional download. I like the usb sensor that turns on the drive so this will turn more than the tough drive when not in use. No uncomplicated way to open up the enclosure if required. Nice drive and enclosure. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:- Could be a pro for power saving, but it takes a little bit to wake up from sleep (same as any drive I suppose, but those precious seconds...)- The price went up since I grabbed it (at $109)
Pros:- Lots of space- Plug-in and go- Still works! Comment:
I was wary of it, being a 2Tb drive, but haven't had any issues. It is plugged in 24/7 to a media center machine, holds all the video and gets non-stop use in the evenings. I'm pleasantly surprised, but lets see what happens in the next months. |

Comment:
Contrary to some reviews, so far I have found this model dependable and rapidly sufficient. Runs cool and fairly quiet. Got 1 in 8 and another in 12, happy with each (currently it is 2). In my experience, a lot more reliable than Lacie and so far on par with my Seagate tough drives. Formatted for Mac with a separate FAT32 partition. No firewire! Blinking activity light is bright. |

Comment:
Really straightforward hookup. I plugged it into my Windows XP machine and it was readily recognized by the OS. LED ought to be on the front rather than the back. I bought this to back up my 1.five Tb DNS-321 NAS (RAID 1) drive which contains all my media and important documents. I wanted to keep incrmental backups in the event a file or directory was deleted. It is Quite simple to hookup and is even sharable on my residence network. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:- no manual power switch (for those of us who are control freaks and like to turn our electronics OFF when we're done). - Slower 5400 rpm drive
Pros:- Large hard drive- very quiet- case has very small footprint Comment:
I bought this knowing it was a slower drive, but I just needed a drive to use as backup for my photos. Has worked great so far, no issues. The enclosure's foot print is very small. My only really complaint is that there isn't a proper power switch. And I like to be able to turn my electronics off when I'm not using them. |

Comment:
I've read a couple of critiques stating the drive is loud but that has not been my experience. In fact I can say I can agree with all of the pros and non of the cons I've seen here. It's small, quiet, fast and sleek. None so far. I could get a second one in the coming weeks as a backup drive for my dad. |

I bought it when it was on sale. It quiet and cool. Turns off itself when the PC is turned off. I think it also sleeps/hybernates when the PC sleeps/hybernates. That helps to make to prolong its life. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
-USB 2.0 is slow-Need to plug separate power adapter-Only 1 year warranty
Pros: -Its suppose to be a 'Black' drive inside.-External drives are convenient-Sits Horizontal not vertical Comment:
It's a WD Black so reliabilty should be superb. Performance wise, it's about one third the speed of a regular SATA drive due to the USB 2.0 connection. It took me 2 days to backup the 1.81TB onto it. Had I known how slow it would be, I would not have bought it. Wait for USB 3.0 of use eSATA if you need speed. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
Power-brick is a wall rat
Pros: 2TB in an external enclosure that's cheaper than a bare drive. Super small - the case is practically painted on around the drive. Comment:
Typical Western Digital Reliability (I have over a dozen of their drives all told). Up to now I had been buying their MyBook series and choosing not to use their backup software. This time WD embedded the software in the drive firmware...I returned it and bought the Elements series, which is the same hard drives sans software. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
-
Pros: - Sturdy construction- Quiet operation- Small power cord- Excellent value Comment:
I got one of these on sale for almost the price of an internal drive. NCIX had a great sale, and I'm amazed at the value you get from this drive. On top of the obvious 2TB gain, WD's Elements drive is suprisingly well built. Nice matte black finish, and for a 3.5 inch drive, it's compact as well. No clunky powerbricks of old either; this external drive comes with a small compact plug. The speeds are decent as well, and the heat after 1 hour of file transfer was only a bit warm to the touch. The drive also runs very quiet, and you can only hear a faint low pitch hum at about 1 foot or closer.I don't see any real flaws in this product, and for something that was on sale for so cheap, I'm extremely satisfied with this product. I hope WD can continue to produce affordable, semi-portable, and large capacity drives like these. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
No front power or usage indicator
Pros: Small, sleek and quiet Comment:
I just purchased two of these at the sale price. For just a little over the price of bare drives, it was an excellent deal. Naturally the performance over USB 2 will not compare to an internally connected SATA drive, but the flexibility of large and transferrable storage compensates for that.I was actually looking to supplement my existing Bufallo Drivestation 1TB (which I also purchased from Ncix more than two years ago). I originally wanted an "upright" drive but when these WD went on sale, the deal was too good to pass up.A small plastic stand that allows the drive to be set uprigt would also be nice. The power/usage LED indicator seems oddly placed at the back, but it works perfect for me. I've got two of these drives stacked right under my Asus OPlay media player and they are almost the exact same size. (They're actually positioned with one long side facing front - with the power cable and usb connector on the side). It doesn't have any weird shape or external features that would detract from a "minimalist" look. Simply put, it's a small black rectangular box, glossy piano black in color with no highly visible markings or brandings. |

Western Digital Elements 2TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
Cons:
No power switch
Pros: Great priceSmallHuge storage Comment:
This is a small and stylish external drive. Lighter than the others I have gotten as well. No issues with plug and play. Seems decent for a USB2.0. |
Inexpensive, operates at a superior speed, quiet, doesn't overheat, durable, "not only that, but practically every portion of this gun has been hinted with a delicate orange flavor." I tend to be an overly harsh critic of every little thing that I come in contact with and make a habit of calling down on every thing that I can attach a tangible negative truth to... and I am utterly unable to think of anything negative to say about this device. Honestly, if you received this external difficult drive, and you found anything about it to come up brief from what it says plain as day in the specs, then it's a defect.
