Died after 5 days
Comment:
Worked for about 10 days connected to a Mini ITX motherboard. Ran ok for a while, was never fast, then slowed down to a crawl, then would not boot saying a problem was detected on the hard drive. RA'd.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:non found

Pros:space, cost (paid 109 at ncix), silent
Comment:
Baught 2 of these to put in an external enclosure in order to backup data. I found myself pleasently surprised, thought I still hate how drive manufacturers say 1.5TB and my OS says 1.36. I know about the 1024 bytes per megs conversion. But when I store data on my drive, I use 1024 bytes per megs. I ought to be the same when I buy the drive.

Pros:Price during a saleLow power consumptionRemains idle when not using it
Comment:
Bought this as a storage drive and I have no complaints about it. Got it for $99 a couple months back during a sale which is still a very good deal even though the lowest I saw was Black Friday for $90. At its regular price however, I don't think it is worth it.

Great option for file server running 24/7 type of storage. I'll eventually get 3 more to put them on RAID5.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:This is OEM so make sure you have cables, etc. (This is NOT a con, just something to be aware of). My mobo came with enough cables, if you don't have extras they are pretty cheap.

Pros:I am a big Western Digital fan, and I have never had a drive from them die on me. I like the "green" lines due to their low power draw, quietness, and low heat. 1.5TB is a large amount of space, and will help me get my media collection organized and available.
Comment:
People should know what they are getting in to when they buy OEM drives with this sort of capacity. Reliability issues are just a reality at this price point. Pick a manufacturer whose RMA policies suit your needs and make sure you keep the important data backed up. Of course, I would offer the same advice about backing up even if your data was on enterprise class drives. Data redundancy is just good policy.

awsome products
Comment:
I have been ordering products from here around 8 years. Tigers shiping method (packaging and ups) has always worked out great for me. When you order something, it is usually a good idea to have some knowledge on how to install it. Also they have a great return policy if your product truly is defective.

Cons:Some reviews have it arriving DOA; mine did not.

Pros:Cheap price; got it on sale from Boxing Week. Huge space for a little price. Green, uses less power.
Comment:
For the space I got, it was a good price and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It also uses less energy than my other HDDs, so you really can't lose!

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:Slower than standard desktop drives, somewhat strange SMART data (see summary)

Pros:Extremely Quiet and low temperature
Comment:
Firstly, the drives are stellar for what I wanted (media server with infrequent usage, but on 24x7). I've got two of these drives in RAID 1 on a media server. The drives are used for both holding the OS (Linux) and media files. The drives are extremely quiet, and don't produce much heat. I'm happy to just leave them passively cooled in my case without worry. I don't find the speed of the drives to be a concern, but they aren't used in a primary desktop environment.Lastly, one drive is used more frequently in my setup, it seems, and the load/unload cycle count means it will fail in approximately a year (but within warranty). A quick search online shows I'm not alone in this issue.

HEADS UP ON THESE DRIVES
Comment:
I could not get any of the six drives I ordered to be recognized by a network server, by the bios of either of two 64 bit win 7 machines (duo core and quad core), or by the diagnostics tool. The problem seems to be recent green drives (all six of the drives I ordered were manufactured in November 2009)are deploying something called advanced disc formatting technology. As best I can figure some drivers or host controllers will recognize these drives; others won't. The most recent drivers-controllers for my mobos didn't recognize them and the network server wouldn't either. I replaced the greens with blacks and all worked instantly. Save yourself some aggravation and make sure your system can recognize the format before deploying these drives.

Woks Great
Comment:
This is my first SATA hard drive and it works wonderful. It took me a few minutes to configure my bios to recognize the hard drive. You can't beat the price for this HD. 1.5 TB is plenty of space to store my movies and games collections. Knock on wood, this doesn't die out on me like others are saying in their review. I love this HD, i highly recommend this to others who are thinking of upgrading. The only con i could come up is the shipping and handling. they have the slowest shipping ever. They took forever to ship this out to me. almost 2 weeks of waiting. Overall its a great product.

Worste Product. Good deal.
Comment:
I got this drive with fast and free shipping as part of there boxing day special. I turned the drive on and it only let me format it to 500Gigs. I called WD and they said the drive was mislabeled (Wrong Sticker)? After 5 mintues on teh Internet site Googlez I found out that the newer models have defective sectors. The good news is I have a working 500 Gig drive. Now to jump through a few hoops to get this replaced.

Cons:none that i have noticed yet

Pros:its greenVERY quiet
Comment:
I paired this up with my good looking nexstar 3 external hard drive since i know i needed a low power consumption drive because the enclosure doesn't has a fan to keep it cool. It does get a little warm after a while of transfering data back and forth. But that's pretty normal for a hard drive no matter how green it gets.I do turn it off when its not in use. And so far it hasn't died out on me yet and i hope it will never die because i have lots of stuff stored in the drive. This review was modfied by poster @ 01-07-10 11:37 PM

Cons:New version of this drive does NOT work with my BlacX USB dock.

Pros:Low power consumption.Runs cool and quiet.
Comment:
These drives are perfect for external backup. I got 3 of these and a BlacX usb harddrive dock to backup all my music, movies and tv shows on my HTPC. -- Update  Jan. 9, 2010: The last drive I bought on boxing day, a version 00P8B0, does NOT work with my BlacX usb dock. Inside the pc it works with no problems. The 2 other version 00S2B0 drives I got last fall work great in the dock. I haven't tried to use this drive in an other usb enclosure yet as the enclosure I ordered with this drive is on back order and has not arrived yet. Cons:5400RPM

Pros:Price on Sale1.5TB CapacityRuns Cool and Quiet
Comment:
Got this on sale for an enclosure for a user's PVR. Does everything you'd want it to, and runs cool and quiet. The lower seek times aren't really that much of an issue for a PVR extension used solely for storage. The only weakness if you can call it that is the 5400RPM cap; would be nice to be able to configure this, but like I said not an issue since it's used only for storage.

Cons:Little slow to use as a main drive

Pros:Silent operationDoesn't warm up
Comment:
Finally, I have found a perfect hard drive for my Vantec enclosure. This one hardly makes noise or heat that I can detect. I used a Samsung 250GB for the backup, but it got very warm after 30 minutes of file transfer. However, it doesn't warm up even after 3 hours of file transfer. The transfer speed is lower (100MB/s peak v.s. 130MB/s peak) than new hard drives. Still, it is substantially faster than my WD 500GB which cannot break 80MB/s.

Great but may not format properly on some PCs
Comment:
I like this drive, I was swapping out for a 500Gb drive so the lack of a SATA cable was not a problem. Packaging minimal but OK, drives can take a lot of abuse so don't put too much stock in complaints about packaging. BUT on my HP Media Center m8034n computer, I could not format the drive to full capacity, whether I used one or more partitions. It formats to 73% and stops. This problem is noted on many websites, and seems to be a limitation of the NVDIA SATA controller, not the drive. However I was unable to update my SATA controller driver, so for now I formatted a partition to 1024000Kb so I could get going on my next video project. Someday I will figure out how to use the remaining 400 Gb.

Great drive, love the brand, love the price. Currently doing a full format as it was just installed into my system. The format seems to be noticeably faster on this drive than my other 1.5TB Seagate was. No issues so far, loving the extra space.

BAD PACKAGING!
Comment:
ATTENTION! THIS IS A COMMENT ABOUT PACKAGING ONLY! I RECEIVED THE PACKET WITH TWO HDDs. THE PACKAGE WAS VERY CARELESS DONE BY TIGER-DIRECT. THE TWO HDDs WERE WRAPED RANDOMLY IN SOME BRAWN PAPER WITHOUT TAPE OR GLUE TO KEEP THE PAPER IN PLACE. NO FRAGILE SIGN ON THE DELIVERY BOX. NO FOAM OR PACKAGE SPONGE TO ABSORB THE SHOCKS. IT WAS NOTHING IN THE DELIVERY BOX TO KEEP THE HDDs FROM MOVING LIKE POTATOES. LACK OF CARE AND PROFESSIONALISM FROM TIGER-DIRECT!

Cons:Not a fast drive, costs more than Hitachi and Seagate

Pros:Quiet, large.
Comment:
Not a fast drive, but good enough for large storage device. I don't notice any significant performance difference compared to older WWD AAKS drives. And WD's pitch feels quieter than Hitachi and Seagate. It costs more than Hitachi and Seagate.

Excellent drive for a great price
Comment:
Just received my drive today and installed it in less then 20 mins (including the time it took to boot up and format the drive). The drive is really quiet, in fact when i first powered on my system I didn't think I connected the power but I did! I copied about 250 GB from my old SATA drive to this one in 45 mins. My only complaint is that the drive isn't 2 TB. Technically it only has about 1.3 TB of free space and after I copied over some stuff I was basically at 1 TB. But hey for this price you cant go wrong.

I want to start moving movies and games to HDD rather than burning DVD's and I got this as my first archival drive. This is working great so far as it has a lot of storage capacity and I also hope the "green" version will run well for the long ters in an external HDD docking bay.

Pros:quiet, low heat storage drive
Comment:
This drive is great as a storage drive. it's not bad as an OS drive but works better as a storage drive due to its slower speed. It is very quiet and doesn't produce a lot of heat which is a plus in a HTPC system.
