Very reliable
Comment:
I have been using Western Digital drives over the years(owned about 6), they have been very reliable for me and I highly recommend them. I ordered this drive installed it partitioned it in 3 parts and have had no problems with it. It is very quiet and love it's performance.I intend to purchase another one when I get the chance.

What an inredible price to capacity ratio!
Comment:
Man oh man, what an incredible Price to Capacity ratio, once again the best on the market today. This 1.5TB hard drive spins at 7200 RPM (not mentioned but that's in it's manufacturer's specs, I checked), and costs only $15.00 per GB, once again the best price to capacity ratio on the market today for any capacity. I have never had a drive from this company ever failed me in over 15 years using microcomputers. It's a steal at this low, low price, and has an excellent warranty to back it up. Thank you to this manufacturer and this supplier for making it so affordable. I would buy 1 today had i not purchased 2 500 GB drives of this same make already. It's the least expensive 1.5TB drive out there today. These drives are fast becoming my favorite by far.

Not at all impressed!
Comment:
1. Shipped in plastic display pack with only 1 sheet of brown newsprint in a box that was too big. 2. Drive would format 73% and then fail. Called WD not much help. Never did get it working RMA'd it back to TD. I will try one more time. (glutton for punishment I guess)

Not user friendly so far
Comment:
I just recieved this drive a few days ago, I'm running windows vista 32 bit. I've connected the drive and when formatting it, it freezes at 73% and won't move past that, after doing research on the internet this appears to be a very common error. Don't know if its a corrupt drive or just bad drivers.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:Probably not the fastest around, but this isn't for your boot partition

Pros:Huge and cheap drive for your backups
Comment:
Great little drives for quick backups, using them as removable drives with some HD docking over USB makes a very practical setup.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:high random access times, but to be expected from a green drive

Pros:huge capacity, dirt cheap per GB
Comment:
Not much to say, it's huge, but really more of a storage drive than anything else. Tried as a boot drive for half an hour when shuffling data around, definitely could feel the difference between a performance-oriented drive.

For $99 on the weekly special, this drive was a steal. It is almost silent, and seems as fast as any other drives I have (some newer 640GB Seagate and 500GB Hitachi drives).I have to say again, this thing is quiet!I would gladly purchase another one, but due to its size, won't need to for a while.

So far so good.
Comment:
I ordered this shortly after they launched this product. I have not had any failures to speak of. I ordered this on 10,2,2009 and i can't recall when i received it. I must also say that I'm not using this drive as my primary hard drive but as a secondary. I did have trouble formatting the drive as a primary partition with windows...but -- If you run into any problems formatting with windows you can download their Data Lifeguard program and format it that way. I recommend not using this hard drive to house your OS. Hope this review helps you happy customers.

Cool and quiet
Comment:
This drive delivers on WD's power efficiency claims. I bought one to evaluate, hammered it with continuous, heavy loads (without any external cooling) and it barely gets noticeably warm. For the first time, I'm actually thinking about stacking several of them in a RAID without a huge noisy fan to keep the thing cool. Remains to be seen if they're reliable in the long term, but a high capacity drive with a tiny thermal footprint has been greatly needed and will hopefully set the bar for other drive manufacturers.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:- Not as fast as most other drives on the market

Pros:+ Massive capacity+ Best value, $0.07 per GB+ Decent read/write speeds+ Quiet, cool running+ Low power+ WD 3 year warranty
Comment:
Overall, I highly recommend this drive because of the great price and capacity.I currently have this set up with a Vantec Nexstar CX (eSATA). It's a winning combo - buying a 1.5TB pre-assembled/branded external hard drive with eSATA costs much more than the Vantec enclosure (around $24) and this drive, which was priced at $107.In terms of performance, HD Tune reports the following read speeds:Minimum: 45.2 MB/sMaximum: 105.5 MB/sAverage: 80.1 MB/sAccess time: 13.5 msBurst Rate: 97.7 MB/sIn a real world copy test, I copied 12 GB of files, about 30 or so Xvid video files, and it completed in around 3 min. According to Windows 7's transfer rate meter, it started at around 100 MB/s copy and slowly went down to around 55 MB/s.Heat and noise: fairly cool running, after a HD Tune test it went to around 35C. Was barely audible during the test.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:average speed!

Pros:Large capacity!Low price! on sale!
Comment:
I got my WB on sale for 106.99 very cheap for an 1.5 TB drive. capacity over speed, but you have to be very careful of handleing this drive, I accidently have the drive bump on to my knee, and when I test it out, everything seems to work fine, but once I copy some data on to it, I get the drive data error message.... reformat doesn't help at all, have to replace a new one, this is a very sensitive drive, even a small bump will cost extream damage to the drive, so be careful bringing this drive home.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:A little slow.

Pros:Quiet, vibration-free operation.
Comment:
This drive is far superior to Seagate.I used this drive in a FW800 external enclosure with my Mac Mini. Previous to that I used the Seagate 1.5 TB but replaced it with this drive. The WD is totally quiet, runs vibration-free, and is very quick (but not as quick as the Seagate which is barely faster). I definitely appreciate the low energy consumption.A high-quality product I recommend.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:Not ideally suited to running an OS or apps

Pros:The perfect data storage drive
Comment:
As of the writing of this review, this 1.5TB drive offers the best $/GB ratio of any data storage solution bar none. Add that to the low power consumption and low noise generation of this drive, and you've got yourself pretty much the perfect drive for data storage. I have one right now in my HTPC, but am thinking about buying six more for my RAID5 file server. The only thing stopping me is that I am unsure of how these drives would perform in a RAID array. For an OS drive or a drive off of which you will be running apps or games, you will want to look elsewhere, as this does not have the speed of most other entries in the market in terms of mechanical drives.

Does not come with connector cables!
Comment:
Just a note, i bought this thing recently, and it does not come with the motherboard to hard drive connectors. (Serial ATA cable i believe). I had to order a new one since my case only has 2 of them. Keep that in mind when buying.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:None found

Pros:A huge capacity in a single drive
Comment:
I bought it on sale at a very good price for the DRobo and hopefully it is as reliable as previous Western digital hard drives. It is supposed to be lower power consumption while generating less heat at the same time. I can appreciate the lower heat production especially as these things can present cooling challenges. I believe the lower heat and thus lower temperatures should help make the drive more reliable and more durable. I just hope that eventually when the hard drive dies, the DRobo manages to preserve all the data.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:Could potentially lose a great deal of data if drive fails

Pros:Very large storage capacity on single drive
Comment:
This is a great hard drive as it is lower in power consumption and therefore generates less heat. If only all the other drives were as power friendly. I am using it in a DRobo unit and was concerened about heat buildup. So far it seems to be very good. No complaints, only a slight worry about hard drive failure. Hopefully the DRobo will manage to protect any data that would otherwise be lost.
