Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:slow

Pros:pricesizequality
Comment:
I bought this hdd at a sale for 99$ it was very cheap for the capacity offered. The only downside is that it is really a STORAGE drive, you can'T use it to run windows or play games or it will take 100 years to get your apps done. For storage it is a GREAT drive. I mostly use it when I download things as a backup drive. Watch it in sale because the price can be very low!

WARNING!!!!
Comment:
--WARNING-- Western digitals the best hard drive company available and i will buy more of their products, BUT not from Tigerdirect. The handling of the items was obviously careless; wen i opened the cardboard box it revealed a plastic container holding the hard drive which had multiple dents and bends. The hard drive gave out 4 days after install. --WARNING--

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:A bit slow. Getting annoyed with 1.5TB vs. 1.5TiB debate.

Pros:Picked up 6 of these drives for a new server, fits the bill perfectly. Running them in RAID6.
Comment:
Bought these for a file server, running them in a RAID6 configuration using mdraid on top of LUKS encryption. Works as intended. Upgraded from 6 1TB drives. Always need as much space as I can get. These aren't the most reliable drives in the world, hence why I am using a RAID6. I would prefer to keep my data than skimp on space. A good deal at $105 CAD, not so great of a deal at $150.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:Slow rpm

Pros:Price, temps, space
Comment:
This drive is perfect for external enclosures, especially those without fans as a higher rpm faster drive may get too hot. Obviously its not meant to be used as an os drive, its made for storage, although for a budget system these green drives would work very well. Faster than i was expecting with the 5400rpm speed, but works GREAT for the sale price of $115.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:-slow-5400rpm-what's so green about it? Just a gimmick to get you to buy it. I think it's just another marketing tool to help them market off their 5400rpm HDD? That's like selling low powered cars and marketing them as green.

Pros:-Cheap, $96-$98 i think it was.-Large capacity
Comment:
Much to the praises seen on the reviews here, I went out and bought this hard drive as it was on sale. I think it was about $96. Pretty good price then. I'm gonna spit some warnings before you make your purchase.-This runs at 5400rpm-It uses 500GB platters, but it is slower than 320GB platter, for this hard drive.-about 80MB/s transfer rateFinally, use this for storage only. For system drive(C: or O/S) get something faster and better.Still good bang for the buck at price I paid. Wished it was faster though. I wouldn't buy it again; I'd choose something else. =)

Cons:WD does not have a 7200 rpm 1.5TB drive! No 5 Year like their other drives.

Pros:LargeCheapQuality
Comment:
My first "green" drive. It is actually faster than I expected for a 5k rpm drive. I was expecting laptop drive speed, but believe it or not, I copied a HD movie from my 1TB Black drive to this, and it sustained 95-98 MB/s write speed! That is all I get on the Black drive! I understand this drive is great for video and large files, and it is slower for things like mp3s and such, but I have not confirmed that. Honestly using a black drive is overkill for storage when for near the same price you can get this but more space. The Black drives come in handy for performance and smaller files, especially for your OS.

Good product so far, bad packaging
Comment:
The drive is working well and is very quiet. I am using it in my HTPC. My only complaint is that there was no bubble wrap or protection against rough handling put in the shipping box. Fortunately, UPS didn't destroy it in transit.

Cons:not as fast as blue or black versions (which is actually to be expected though)

Pros:Brand, capacity, cost per GB
Comment:
I got this as a storage drive and it works as expected. I believe that, at the time, this had the best cost/GB out of all of the other hard drives. I would highly recommend this drive mainly b/c of the storage capacity and brand.

WOW!
Comment:
I usually don't get excited over a HDD, but I replaced my Seagate 1TB .11 drive with this one and overall system performance was substantially improved. Maybe the Seagate is defective? I'm benchmarking the drives to see, but the Seagate passed all of the diagnostic tests. Can't speak to longevity as I've only had this drive a week, but it is a very nice HDD

Similar problems
Comment:
Like many others on here, I had problems with this drive. I bought two, both errored out when I tried to (fully) partition and format - WD Diagnostics reported sector errors - WD helpdesk said they were bad, and to send them back. I was able to partition and format both of them to 1020 mbs, then the errors were encountered. I suspect that updated drivers may have been needed. I will not be ordering a third drive, but would appreciate hearing if anyone else was able to cure the problem with updated drivers.

I can barely hear it when it's on beside me outside the case and rigged as an external. It makes my 320gb seagate barracuda (2.5), as a laptop drive, sound like a chainsaw.

Awesome in a RAID setup!
Comment:
LIL OLD PANDA, I think your math is a bit off. $15 per GB would mean that a 1.5TB hard drive would cost $22,500.00. At this price, it's closer to $0.07 per GB, that's right 7 cents. Overall, a great product, running 3 of them in a RAID 5 array for my music collection. No issues after a month so far.

I use this drive as a backup drive for all of my data. It works quite well and I have thus far had no problems with it. Since I've recently gotten an HD camcorder, I'm sure that this extra space will not go to waste.

Cons:Performance

Pros:Power SavingsData ProtectionBest in class
Comment:
I bought 4 of these drives for use in a Dlink DNS-343, and I definately do not regret the purchase. I know that these drives are not as high on the performace scale as the WD Blacks, however, in comparison to a lot of other drives in the green catagory, its best in class for speed, reliability and greenness. The part I like best about the drives is that when they aren't being used, and I work for 8 hours a day so its not always in use, is the drive stops spinning. Initially I became concerned for the longevity of the drive because drives don't like turning on and off a bunch of times in the day. It was then that I realized that when the drive isn't spinning, the chance of my data getting lost due to things like overheating and mechanical failure are greatly reduced, and might actually increase the lifecycle of the product (in theory). The WD name has always attracted me, and since the blacks weren't available at a decent price, I went with the Green's and I haven't regreted that decision once.

Pros:runs coolfast for a green drivesilentlots of spacelow power consumption
Comment:
Excellent deal at $90 during Black Friday sale. This is my first "green" drive and I'm impressed. It's extemely quiet. You can't even tell it's on unless you press your ear against it. It runs cool so it's perfect for enclosures with no active cooling.I'm using this as a backup drive in my desktop so I don't need a performance drive like the Blacks. I needed something that consumes little power with lots of space and this is perfect. 2TB drives are too expensive at the moment. Only issue is that you'll hear a faint click when the head parks but it's barely noticeable.

Western Digital WD15EADS Caviar Green 1.5TB Hard Drive SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:It's OEM, so you have to download the software yourself, and make sure you have an extra SATA cable around. I had trouble finding the partition software on the WD website download/support page for this drive. I found annoying not finding it, I only found the diagnostic tools. But I found what I was looking for... for this drive on Softpedia instead.

Pros:I got mine price matched, so I got a lot of storage space for a good price.
Comment:
I am using this drive as storage. It's plenty fast for what I use it for. I have my games installed on it.I have a separate drive as my primary with my OS on it.I'm happy with it, and would buy another just like it for the same job in a second.

Comment:
I currently have 3 WD drives in my machine, Raid 0 2x 1TB black and this 1.5TB green which I use as my main storage drive. So far no issues and very happy with its price to storage ratio. Its a quiet drive which runs cool and uses less energy, may not be as fast as the black and other drives but for a storage drive it does the job perfectly.

Pros:Cool and reliable
Comment:
It runs really cool. I owned other HDs from ST and they are hot, not this one. And also, comparing to ST ones, it's very reliable. Although I own them for only a few weeks, they don't make the 'clicking' noise as the ST ones. Speed is not bad either for a storage drive.

Pros:quietlots of spacegood storage solution for pricing
Comment:
Hi all,I have had 2 of those drives for a month(+) now and i can say that they are really good so far. I have not had any problems with them and they are really quiet.I use them with a thermaltake docking station to store data.I would go as far as say that the people who had problems with them are installing those in poorly ventilated systems, the overheat and that is why they die on them. Knock on wood, i have not had any problems like the ones mentionned in some comments people posted about this drive. Now if the pricing would just go down a little bit more, i would be all set to get some more. It is not expensive comparing this to other media but it still is a little bit more fragile but you get more bang for your buck! Will buy more when i have some spare samolians!
