Memorex 50-Pack, 8.5GB, 8X DVD+R, Double Layer
Comment:
These are the only DL brand I'll use. They equal Varbatim in every way 'cept they have a reasonable price. I've backed up my whole DVD film library with these @ 4x speed and have a record of 483 flawless burns and 0 coasters. Burnt with a Samsung using original firmware and DVDFab Platinum as copy software. If u are backing up a feature film then you have to use DVDFab otherwise u'll likely get a coaster b/c of DVD copy protection, not the media. Not Memorex at least, anything cheaper, it's a gamble for sure. DVDFab is the only still legal software left that can break every kind of anti-copy measure that exists or is yet to exist. So please, just blame your crappy burning software, not Memorex. Don't look like a fool. Period.

Comment:
Basically, the whole pack came out as coasters. Maybe had 2 successful burns. Tried these with 3, yes THREE, separate DL burners, including a Lite-On, a brand new I/O Magic blu-ray player/ dvd burner DL, and a brand new Memorex DL drive. It's pretty bad when you can't even write a successful disc with a burner the same brand as the disc...

These DVD's are fantastic, i have burned over 200 of them this year and not one coaster, if you have the right type of program and dvd drive support along with correct drivers and a capable motherboard that can support that dvd drive there great, in other words you cant have a $200 computer from 2003 and throw in a dual layer drive and start burning, it probably will cause some coasters, also burn at 4x not 16x if you aren't sure if your computer and drive are compatible of 16x.Not every computer can just burn duals because someone said so or because the icon is on the drive, do research and look for the support drivers and requirements, i have had 100% success with these.

You do have to burn on the slowest setting, thats not an issue as this yeilds a good quality burn anyway. Ive bought 100 of these so far had only 6 coasters once I turned the burn speed down to 2x I've enjoyed 100% sucsess rate I will buy more of these.

I think it is time people upgraded the firmware on their dvd drives. I have burned memorex dvd-dl's at 8x's, every time w/ a light-on and a samsung drive w/ zero coasters and have now just opened the 7th pak of 50.

Worked fine for me on my LightScribe abit of a warning though you cant really go past 4x unless you want coasters. Also too make sure your dvd drive firmware is up to date.Higher burn speeds mean higher burn errors & more coasters!!

I love these dvd's, but I do agree that these need to burned at a low speed. They're still great for the price. FYI I burn everything at 1X and I probably only see 1 or 2 coasters out of a 50 pack.

Stay away!!!!! what a pile of pooh! I've used Memorex 4.7 dvd's before with no problems. This is the 1st time I've used DL disks. I thought their DL's would be just as good. But to say I'm disappointed is an understatement!! I expected a couple of coaters but so far the failure rate is 90%! & I'm only half way through the spindle of 50! Next time I'm going to spend that little bit extra & get me some Verbatim's.

I have tried to use these on 3 different computers with 3 different brands of burners, Sony, TSST, Maddog. Using Nero 7 latest version, Nero 8 latest version, and Nero 9 latest version. No luck, 8 coasters so far. This is strange because I use single layer Memorex 16X dvd's all the time and never had a coaster. Must be a compatibility problem with nero or my burners. I'm sure this is a good product, just beware some people like me are having problems with this media.

FOR ANYONE WHO THINKS THESE ARE GARBAGE: These memorex are actually very high quality discs, except nobody seems to know to burn them at a low speed. If you look at any high quality discs like verbatim, it has a very low burn speed (2.4x). These memorex ones are 8x, but the key is to NOT burn them this fast. Burn them at around 2x speed like the verbatims and you will get a great success rate. Fantastic deal tiger!!

Waste of money, instead of saving $25, I lost $25 because 15 out of 20 have failed. I am not going to bother burning the rest. I don't even trust the 5 that did burn. I've had a few coasters before, but not this much. Avoid this purchase even if it goes for 50% off.

I bought a spindle of 50 Memorex DVD+R DL, thinking the price was good. This turned out to be a very expensive way to get coasters. I've tried to burn nearly 15, testing every which-way or speed, with zero success. My Mashita BD MLT 220S worked fine with Sony DVD+R DL discs with the same project. When they ran out, I went to a store to get more. Memorex was the only DVD+R DL on the shelf! I bought a spindle of 25, taking care to save my receipt. Yes, I will have to retun the goods. Again, every disc was worthless, causing a ''burn fail'' message. Memorex does use various suppliers, so perhaps a good batch appears here or there, but I will not take that gamble again.

I have had nothing but bad luck with this. memorex is the reason they put an emergency eject on all burner units. remember, verbatim, ( word for word ). you get what you pay for.

Work fantastic for me. For people having trouble, try burning at a slower speed like x2 or x4. They all work flawlessly for me and I've gotten like 6 packs worth. I've bought DLs before where I got a whole pack of coasters, but I've never had one with Memorex. Definitely a good buy. I burn them with my Mac and, again, never had a problem. Buy these.

Five out of five discs failed, three from the top of the pack, one from the middle, and one near the bottom. There's nothing wrong with my burner, SuperDrive on MacBook, as I had afterwards purchase some Verbatim DVD+R DL discs locally, without any problems. I had noticed the Memorex reviews were mixed but purchased them anyways, I won't do that again. The service provided by TigerDirect in returning the discs is excellent.

I have used these to make backups of many movies/tv series and also for backing up 360 games and I have burned over 100 discs and I made 1 coaster but that could have easily been my machine as I hadn't rebooted it for like a week before that burn. I rebooted and burned the same image and it worked perfectly. I would recommend these everyday.

I had major issues burning DL's with my high speed drive. It burns at 12X. My motherboard did not report any errors. it just failed. I found out that there is an 80 pin IDE cable that is required to burn at high speed. I bought the cable and installed it. I have never had a problem since.

I've tried several brands of dual-layer DVDs, but these are the only ones I've found that work consistently. I was having problems on occasion, but I switched from a Sony burner to an HP and now I almost never have a failure on a burn with these discs.

I've used these for backing up my xbox 360 games and they work great! Some people out there don't know how to update their drive's firmware, dont know about changing a book-type or use the appropriate software... And they blame it on the medias.... As far as I'm concerned, I only had one bad burn out of 30... I would buy these again and I recommend these for sure!

I'm feed up. These discs jam in the drive. They don't burn properly, the video skip and pixalate. I've tried diff speeds. Nero stats it burns successful. They act like the cheap China made 004m media that fails after 2 months. The package still has the ''rw'' logo but the disc inside don't. The label say Taiwan. I've also noticed some discs Nero states will only burn at 4-8x not the 16x on the label. (I've burned 100 pack with the old dvd+r ''rw'' this year without 1 failure) There are many complaints on videohelp.com about the grab-bag of makers Memorex uses.
