Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Comment:
Works wonderful with every thing. Original firmware had problems with the samba share of the internal HDD. Have this unit for several months already and works very nicely. It is very solid. I use it with internal HDD where I upload files via Ethernet. However the original firmware had a bug and had issues with big files copied more than the network. That forced me to switch to ACRyan PlayOn modified firmware that supports the exact same original remote and considering that then I have no concerns whatsoever. It also plays my AVCHD videos recorded with my HD Cannon camcorder. I plug the SDHC memory card to the front USB via 1 of those inexpensive SDHC-USB adapters from Meritline. If you do not have internal HDD you can disconnect the internal fan and to make it entirely quiet.

Cons:None.

Pros:Everything I threw at it played, Simple to setup, HDMI cable incl.
Comment:
This unit did everything I needed which was to plug in a USB and watch movies. Every movie I tried which were just MKV's, AVI's and Vob's played flawless. The interface was nice and the feature that previews the movie was a bonus. I let a complete baboon try it and they were flying around the menu and watching movies in seconds. For the price on sale and the cost savings alone from not having to burn DVD's pllus the time saved....priceless.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:Somewhat tricky to setup wireless connection without using the default Windows 7 honegroups streaming optionLack of documentation other than PDF form (which is tedious to read)Aweful wireless transfer speedsTends to heat up quite a bit

Pros:Plays MKV FilesNice selection of connectivity optionsSpeedy file transfers when used in external drive modeGreat remote controlGood looking unit
Comment:
This unit's file format support is incredible and for some time I have been trying to find some way of watching my MKV videos on the TV rather than on a PC screen. The resolution is very passabloe using the included composite cables and I am sure would be awesome using the HDMI 1.3 connection. I did find that is you use MAC ID filtering along with WPA2 that it was difficult to get working properly and it took about an hour before I had it licked (moving the unit, ensuring that option to use login mode on the PBO was enabled, as well as ensuring that I had the correct MAC ID entered into my permitted connections). I was a bit miffed that every time I turned the unit off, it forced me to rediscover my wireless network and re-enter all my passwords. Using the unit as an external drive (using an Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 500GB as my HDD) was great and file transfer speeds were in keeping with any USB 2.0 external drive). File transfer speeds were dismal when it came to using the wireles connection, which would not normally be an issue...if you were able to do other tasks (such as watch a movie) without cancelling tha transfer. All in all, other than the few hiccups mentioned above, I am quite satisfied with the PBO as a multimedia player as it does exactly what it set out to do.

Works terrific for anything brief of HD. Compact unit, doesn't seem to draw a lot of power or generate a lot of heat. It's GARBAGE! Oh sure, you can play some videos from your PC on your Tv, but you are NOT rewinding if you missed that word and it's in Blu Ray. You have to start out over if you want to catch that muttered phrase. The folks who function on the software program are managed by rejects from short school buses. For instance, this device was released with firmware that automatically enabled close captioning. Yeah, consumer demand fixed that in the firmware, but it nonetheless shows you how poorly they recognize the markets. But you don't have to listen to me, just acquire the thing if you are not positive. LOL.

Comment:
Initial factor I did was update it's Firmware, this process is genuine basic. It appears to play every thing I have Such as MKV. GUI Appearance is great, not terrific. Little unit. Plays Full HD comes with HDMI cable. Networking is good has each wired and wireless capabillities. Nice little remote. Appears properly built as it is truly produced with metal and has an internal fan that is quiet with the model i recieved. Don't have to use the Patriot wireless adapter, I purchased a unique 1 for back up. Put a 100 gig 2.5" internal tough drive in it, found and formatted it with no troubles. It also came with a Totally free 4 GB Thumb Drive. For the front facing USB Port. Has internal volume control also, I definitely like this feature as it makes it uncomplicated for volume adjustments without having grabbing a distinct remote for a reciever or whatever. here we go -- says it's windows 7 compatible but I had to Adjust some advanced settings in W7's control panels network and sharing and hack windows registry to make the wireless networking function effectively. The PBO don't fully grasp W7's HomeGrouping so don't even try to add those passwords when it asks. Then it's a treat to figure out how to share folders correctly with the unit and windows 7 I ought to thank their forums for all the usefull info i recieved. This unit is not truly user friendly and takes sometime to figure out the GUI, and is a small slow to react when given commands, this can throw you off alittle so just be pataint. Not significantly in the users manual to support with the networking or settings. Took me about 2 days to get this factor to function properly with Windows 7 thats crazy. A small rough streaming HD wirelessly, i'm certain it would work fine difficult wired but I was able to do non HD without a difficulty. Don't lose the remote/ no buttons on the front of the unit just lights. With all that said I need to admit I like the unit itself,it works actually effectively has a lot of characteristics, also you can update the firmware as they are released working with a USB thumb drive, this is a Painless procedure and works fantastic.I think you can even attach an External DVD player to the unit, it has provisions in the GUI for it but I have not tried it nor do I know for positive its possible. i'll have to do some additional soul looking and locate out.Comes with a quick start guide but you can download the Owners manual from the web web site. It does support but I believe you could require to use the forums and/or contact Patriot for far more support. If it was not for the will need to hack Windows 7 Registry( I comprehend this Unit works with other Operating Systems a great deal greater) and the slightly complex gui I would have given this unit 4 to five stars based on the High quality and funtionality of this unit. I don't strategy on sending this back I got it working fantastic and I'm keeping it.

Cons:Can't play ALAC (Apple lossless audio codec)

Pros:Amazing file compatibilityLow Price
Comment:
I buyed it to use at a media extender for my computer. it's play almost everything at 1080p (mkv included). it's a charm. The only con that I have is it cannot play ALAC. Use alternate firmware is the stock one is not good enough for you. Defenitely the product to buy if you are searching for a media player.

I received a new replacement from Patriot on a bad unit. The replacement have to be an upgrade, characteristics I didn't see on the 1st one. All the world wide web television and world wide web videos, and can enter your own too. Definitely sweet.Cost แ soon after rebate. Got Patriot wireless N usb adapter, and 8 gb usb memory for no cost in promo when I bought it. Initially one returned. Wireless wouldn't work, and audio was quite poor. Had to genuinely crank the volume up to just hear poor top quality audio. Took awhile, my fault. Sent in rebate was some of the delay. My just requesting a RMA to new egg one more. I explained in the request, but it's automated, and new egg just approved it anyway. I could of wrote anything, and it would of still been approved for return. They returned to me, as the upc was cut out. Took about two weeks or so to get a new 1 from patriot. Around the very same time for new egg just to return my bad unit I sent them.Only con so far on the new one is if I pause, it jumps to subtitle mode, and at times I lose all audio. If you run into difficulties with pause, just stop rather. Then re-start off when you return. Works fantastic then.Rebate ฽ came pretty quick. I paid Ū additional for a tracking, perhaps it made a distinction, I don't know. Some men and women in critiques say Patriot doesn't pay.

Purchased this small box for my son to watch his favorite movies. He is autistic and has expense us a small fortune in DVD purchases because he kept scratching them. Now we have all of his favorite movies on a drive that we added to this player. He is happy to have all of his movies accessible at the push of a button, and I don't have to maintain acquiring the same movies over and over once again. The menu system makes you navigate folders just like you would on your personal computer. That would be fine for me, but it was a bit of a challenge for my son. Doesn't appear right to take an egg off for that though. Really like it. I plan to get one more 1. (For myself this time.)

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:Constant network speed reminders

Pros:Price point, Network streaming, Internal HDD option, Remote
Comment:
For a price of 55 bucks you cannot buy a better HD media player. I own both the WD live player and this now and I am very satisfied with this thus far. IT had no trouble seeing my NAS and playing content off of it. The USB WiFi adapter is useful I guess, but I am just using LAN atm. The remote has more options which gives it a slight edge over competitors. I synced with my Harmony remote though so not even using it. I Like the eternal 2.5 HDD mount, I would actually sacrifice size if they could make a 3.5 HDD version as 2.5 drives are normally more expensive and smaller sizes (size meaning GB's) obviously. The one thing that bothers me is the constant flash at the top of the screen any time I do anything telling me my network speed; don't really need that, but thats really my only complaint.

I bought this to stream videos from my drobo. It works great for streaming stereo audio but I find it poor for streaming surround sound. The rear channels seem off compared to my computer. The specs appear excellent. This is a fantastic media player, if it works. DOA! When I turn on the unit, both the PWR/STBY and LAN/ACC flash alternating red and green. There is no indication of network connection or activity at the network switch. I tried two TVs. This is unbelievable! DOA! I reserve judgement. I could not return the unit to Newegg for replacement due to the fact I cut out the UPC for the rebate. I spent a week waiting for Tech Support to send me RMA instructions. Now, the defective unit is on its way from NY to LA on my dollar for replacement or repair. High quality CONTROL!!!

Cons:-Defaulted to PAL-Firmware updates require a FlashDrive + Manual procedure-File manager is really basic.

Pros:-Works Well-Easy Remote-Good format compatibility
Comment:
Well, this PBO certainly does the job. It's the cheapest solution I've found for outputting to a TV. It's easy to navigate and does a stellar job for its intended purpose. Format support is good - although some older .mpg files may have issues. The remote is really easy to figure out.My complaints... when it first started, it defaulted to PAL, so I had a grey screwy picture scrolling up the screen. (I'm hooking it up over Composite) Had to figure out how to flip it to NTSC.The file manager is also really basic, and has no obvious way to delete  files stored on the hard drive. I usually just format it and re-copy stuff. And the firmware update  was a bit of a hassle... I was expecting an update r - but instead I had to search their forums for the latest firmware, read the instructions, throw it on a flashdrive, and follow a few other steps. It was fine doing it once, but I'm not going to be checking for update s every other week.Edit: Really, NCIX - your solution to SQL commands like "update " and "drop" is to add a space after them?Heh... creative. Cons:Interface is a bit slow on WiFi, that could be a connection speed issue... no big deal.

Pros:Runs EVERY file type I tried playing... setup is pretty easy too.
Comment:
I absolutely love it! I got it on sale for $50 (with mail-in rebate) and was not expecting much, but it blew me away with ALL the features and quality. I tried every type of video file I have, MKV 720p, 1080p, WMV, FLV, avi, mpeg, mp4, you name it, it plays them ALL, and music files too + pictures (TIFF, JPG etc.) Note there are FREE Firmware updates on the Patriot Website... GET THEM! Some video/audio compatibility issues fixed.Setup was extremely easy, just install the Transcode Server and that is it. The only problem I had was with the USB WiFi( bought separate for $12, sale) & Networking or connecting to my Win7 PC. Read How to Troubleshoot Networking here for that pesky User name and Net ID crap: http://www.patriotmemory.com/forums/showthread.php?2080-connect-to-Windows-7-PC-w-o-login-work-around I followed the simple steps and it connected just fine.I did note, depending on your WiFi speed, some 1080p and even 720p movies stutter a bit. No big deal, you can always put your big movies on a USB stick and plug it in copy them to the internal hard-drive (need to buy separate if you really want one, but not necessary) or connect LAN cable directly to the back of the PBO and they all run smooth in HD.Comes with an awesome remote control, Composite and HDMI cables too!!!Very happy with my purchase!!

I've only played around with this for a few hours so far, but there's really nothing I can complain about. It does everything I expected it to do and more. The remote is surprisingly good and it has many useful functions that most media players don't have. For the price, it's hard to beat the PBO. Pros:It works very well
Comment:
I had problems sharing files from my media centre PC but once I installed the Transcode server, everything worked fine. Other people I know didn't have that problem, however. The wireless N adapter works fantastic and aside from the UI, I can't complain - this is what a media player should do. The remote is relatively easy to handle - far easier than a keyboard and mouse from my HTPC. I bought one for my bedroom and will be getting one for my living room. Hopefully Patriot will ship out new firmware to address the UI issues. As for the fan whine, once you turn it off, you don't hear it anymore since there is no heat. So the fan whine is only an issue when the volume is low.

Pros:plays everything I've thrown at itsmallgreat remotehighly customizable
Comment:
This is the best little present I've bought myself in ages. It's totally replaced a huge media center PC, and I don't even miss it. This is SILENT and plays everything I've thrown at it. There is NOTHING this hasn't played yet.The remote is fantastic too. I was able to teach my mom how to control the box within minutes, and she's usually horrible with technology. It's also HIGHLY customizable. You can flash your own custom firmwares and there are endless hacks available. It's a tweakers dream. So while I left the unit I got her alone on default, I've got mine tricked out with a video wall and with some great media center My Movies type features and looks.Be warned though that if you install a harddrive the unit doesn't cool all that well, so the harddrive gets hot, and you can hear it whirring around. But the advantage there is it's a great NAS as well. Even has bittorrent built in.
