Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:Remote feels cheap (Response and weight)

Pros:Handles ALL audio/video formatsCompactReputable CompanyComes with an HDMI cable!
Comment:
I picked this up because I was getting tired of having to convert various videos/audio files to formats that either my Xbox 360 of PS3 support. Also, I no longer need to burn DVDs, which has always been a nuisance. I'm either listening to music or watching videos every day on my Patriot Box Office. Whether you use a thumb drive, external hard drive, or get a internal 2.5" drive to put in the Patriot Box Office, you can't go wrong.I highly recommend this product for anyone that wants quick access to their video/audio library without hassle. Even without a rebate.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:Struggles with some 1080p vids...

Pros:Plug and play, very nice quality
Comment:
So far, I've only had one 1080p it could not play that my main rig could. Kind of frustrating as I now have to balance between what my rig can play and the Box Office can play.Menus are slow and clunky, but I think some custom firmware out there should be able to remedy that.Overall, good item for only $40 (after MIR).

Cons:-The remote/or batteries

Pros:-Price-Features-Easy to use for non-techsavy people-All necessary accessories included
Comment:
Great price for this unit, especially considering the features. Haven't used it for streaming yet. was easy to teach my mother the simple operation of the unit. the only complaint she had is the remote seems to be picky about the angle at which it is pointed at and the included batteries were pretty much dead from the get go.

Pros:Works wellSmall form factorquiteinexpensive
Comment:
I've bought two of these media players and am very happy with them. They are a perfect fit with any HDTV. They playback of High Def videos files is excellent, and if you install a 2.5" hard drive in it you have a perfect self-contained playback device. I've stoped using my DVD and Blu-ray players since I got this device. With the WiFi adapter it will not only stream media files right from your computer, but it will also access the internet to play various blogs and video reviews.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:- My Shaw remote keeps turning on the PBO (even pressing the directional buttons on my Shaw remote turns the PBO on).- The PBO plays the next file automatically after the previous file is done.

Pros:- Comes with an HDMI cable.- Supports a variety of different file formats.
Comment:
I wanted to buy an affordable media player that was able to play a variety of different formats and the PBO fit the bill. Minor issues were my Shaw remote turning on the PBO, and the playing of the next file automatically. Minor annoyances that I can live with.

I was all set to get the WD TV Live but then saw this on sale for $99 with a $35 MIR. For $65, and with the positive review, it seemed like the way to go because of the price. So far, i have watched a few movies. Please note that this unit has its own volume, so make sure you put it to its loudest if you are controlling the volume thru a separate receiver like me.So far I have not regreted the purchase.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:Support forum only makes sense if you had some experience with computers and etc. Better if you had some linux knowledge which you can install some customized packages.

Pros:AWSOME performance, plays everything, and even supports true 24fps output (sucks for those HTPC users with DVI only output at 60hz and bought a 120hz HDTV).
Comment:
I had a unit before, and this is actually my 2nd one, I gave one to my friend. I love the fact that it can intelligently detect 24fps material and actually output 24hz. So in some sense it is better than a HTPC which only output 60hz depend of your DVI setting.I guess the best part of this unit is that it is sooo easy to use, you don't need to have any computer experience in order to use it properly. for instance, I use Ethernet to live stream my 1080p movies from my SAMBA server. But my friend who doesn't have that network knowledge can attach an external USB on it and plays just fine.Solid support and fast forum update, THEY actually have engineers on it who knows what issues are. I know that patriot is probably only a small company, but You will be amazed about how efficient their support engineers work. No Indian routed calls with support team behind a desk like dell or bell. I believe forum with live engineers is the future.

Cons:does not play back all formats correctlybuggy firmware

Pros:decent remote control
Comment:
PBO does not play back all formats properly. The original fw did not play MKV files (heavy pixelation).I updated fw to lastest level and now it doesn't play MP4 properly which was ok before. From their support forums, It seems that every fw level that they have is buggy. I have an O-Play which plays everything I throw at it with no problems. It also seems to run hot, which the O-Play doesn't.Overall I regret having bought this.

Comment:
I hooked this up to my network via the wired port and so far have zero complaints. I purchased the Patriot Box Office to replace my old Dlink DSM-320 which I hated from the day I bought it (because it never worked properly.) I can't believe the difference in supported formats and no video stuttering! The PBO came with all necessary cables and after a quick update  to the firmware fixed some things, like showing the used internal HDD space. I plan to buy another!

Cons:Clunky InterfaceWireless Networking - Slow and Error Prone

Pros:Plays EverythingEasy to UseGreat Price
Comment:
As someone that has had a dedicated home theatre PC for 8 years now, I was a bit sceptical that a $60 media centre could be an adequate replacement. I was wrong. This thing plays everything that you could want it to, without the expense and hassles of maintaining a HTPC. The only complaint I have is that the interface is a bit clunky and the wireless networking is slow (too slow to stream) and occasionaly stops working.

Comment:
I bought this for my brother - he's not very tech savy and this is something he would not normally think to buy himself. He absolutely loves it - it likely will end up saving his marriage, cause now he can take a USB stick into the basement and watch TV Movies he's downloaded instead of pining through Grey's Anatomy.

Pros:Solid construction, nice remote, and works perfect for local media.
Comment:
All in all, its just like all the other sub 100 dollar media players out there. Its just a TOUCH bigger than say the WD offerings... but this allows for internal storage in the form of a 2.5 inch HDD if you so choose. If you qualify for the $45 rebate, its a no brainer!

Cons:Dongle software forces login/password to network shares, wireless signal fluctuates a lot

Pros:Plays most formats, cheap, internal HD space, free wireless dongle
Comment:
I own both the Popcorn A-110 and this unit and though they are a year apart in terms of release date, the popcorn is a more complete unit that comes with apps. However at $60 this unit is very well worth the money if all you need is a simple media player. I would recommend using it hardwired but the wireless is good enough if you don't have too many walls between it and the router.

Cons:GUI look, some of the online features iffy.

Pros:Size, power consumption, compatibility list, fuller-featured remote than other comparatively-priced media players, good choice of "aftermarket" firmwares
Comment:
Bought this to play my rather large collection of movie/TV show MKV's, and it does that with aplomb. No stutter at all with 1080p H.264 and VC-1, and no troubles playing Dolby Digital audio either. I vaguely remember reading these units MIGHT have issues (I'm not sure) with DTS, and I haven't been able to play much DTS with it, but I always include both DTS and Dolby Digital soundtracks when I rip my MKV's anyways. Haven't played much with subtitles, can't really comment to that effect. But if you're just looking for a box to play all your movies files, you've found it. I like the fact the remote is a bit bigger than that for most of the media players out there, but next to my PS3 Blu-Ray remote, it does look quite flimsy still. =)As an aside, when you get this, do upgrade the firmware. redflagdeals.com has an excellent user thread on this device, and there is info in there to upgrade the firmware to that other than Patriot's - you can choose from the Mede8er firmware, or the AC Ryan firmware as well. If you put some work into it, you can make it look pretty good, but XBMC it ain't and never will be. I settled on the AC Ryan one because it actually had an option in there to adjust the resolution of the interface, so it looks good at 1080p. The others looked blocky on my projector.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons:Not silent (has a bit of a hum to it), interface is just adequate (though improved in newest beta version), cannot stop the device from auto-playing the next video in a folder (seriously - I have no idea why but this isn't enabled), poor documentation, can't disable certain notifications which come onto the screen all the time, startup on composite is in PAL format so it will flicker/scroll on your screen if you are in NTSC until it gets past the boot screen (I think this is only when you first turn it on, not on resume from standby), no component output.

Pros:Good IR reception, remote is full featured compared to WDTV Live HD, plays most everything (same as all the other comparable devices), can put a 2.5inch harddrive inside it, has power switch, front-side USB.
Comment:
I'm torn. The device has a lot of potential and this is highlighted by the number of options the remote gives you but the firmware lacks some of the options to back it up. Seriously: Patriot needs to provide the option to stop the device from playing an entire folder of videos and just play one file at a time (this is the biggest issue for me, mainly because it it seem so illogical. If they could nail down some of the finer details this thing would definitely lead the pack for this price range. Hopefully they continue to develop the firmware and deal with some of this. I seriously considered returning it and getting a WDTV Live HD even though this just cost me $40 after a $45 MIR (from another retailer) but I've decided to hold onto it and just hope Patriot steps up and fixes some of it's deficiencies. I have to rate it based on what it is now though and the video auto-play thing is such a huge issue for me that I have to rate it only 3 stars.

Cons:Video list menu is narrow, need many clicks in order to navigate to a network share, and there is no option to create  a network share shortcut at subfolder level

Pros:Small, easy to setup, wireless, smooth video playback
Comment:
Instead of streaming video to my PS3 (sometimes, it's choppy), I decided to get this to access the videos from a network share directly.First of all, it's much smaller than a PS3. Very easy to setup. It plays my mp4 files without a hitch. It lists the videos on the left side of the screen which is too narrow IMO. I have many videos with the same prefix, I need to wait for each name to scroll in order to tell which one is which. Although you can add shortcuts to a network share, it requires too many clicks to get to it and I cannot map the shortcut to a subfolder directly (unless you heck it).
