Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons: Operating System could be much betterOccasionally hangups on wireless transactionsCan't playlist network itemsSearching in OS through large folders is time consuming

Pros: Compact SizeEasy InstallationPriceEasy wireless setup with Patriot USB dongle
Comment:
When I first opened the box I was utterly suprised how small the player is - it is about the size of 3 CD cases stacked upon each other. Fits in really well in the media cabinet. The wireless setup with the USB dongle was seamless, had no issues. There was some issues with getting my Sony Amp Receiver to communicate video with the media player but it didn't take more than a few minutes to resolve. The only "real" beef I have with the player is the OS works fine for what it has to do but is far from comparable to the usability of other media players (xbox 360, hacked xboxs, etc). That is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. I would gladly buy it again any time.

Good media player for the price. It does it job pretty well and is easy to setup and configure. Also, 2.5IN HDD support is a great feature, since you don't always have to either connect a usb device or your computer.

Cons: zero problems;

Pros: High quality construction; excellent finish; runs intuitively; terrific feature set; versatile; free HDMI cable;

This is a good-looking, good-feeling, and solidly performing little box. The manual is detailed and explicit. Wireless operation may be a bit dodgy. I LOVE the commercial skip utility, and the resume-after-stop function. I will never burn another DVD except for mailing to friends.

Cons: Firmware support is kinda ghetto. Even the official installation instructions aren't that great but you can make due. Its not clear where exactly you find the bootcode that dictates which firmware you can upgrade to. Remote control has a TERRIBLE layout, makes no sense.

Pros: Smallmade of solid metalseems very coolno super bright LEDsplays almost everythingUSB connectivityacts as USB drive when plugged into computer for copying
Comment:
Bought this for my mother and installed a scoprio blue 320gb drive. Works great.UI is so so. You can scroll through movie pages quite quickly so those with large collections won't suffer much.My only video that brought the player to its knees was a 13gb over 2.5 hour movie. Haven't had any problems with any lighter movies.Overall great unit but Patriot could have done much better than they did. Had they put some resources into a great UI and better firmware this would be a killer purchase.** The unit itself has a volume control, turn it up as the default volume is really low ***

Cons: Does lack web browsing ability, but wasnt expected.

Pros: Simple to set up, fully compatible with all my files.

Pretty awesome device, especially for the price, it is a great buy to watch movies if you have a nice LCD or Plasma TV at home, when paired with either internal drives, or both internal and an external.

Cons: Interface is rudimentary at best

Pros: Cheap, versatile, flawlessly plays anything I throw at it. The hardware looks and feels good, and blends in well with other AV equipment.
Comment:
Although the interface is basic, the important thing is that this thing plays any kind of media I throw at it, from any direction (internal HD, external USB HD or key, or network), at a fraction of the price, complexity and space of a dedicated PC of equal capabilities.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons: WiFi Sold Separately, Doesn't support some .avi files, some videos lag, MicroSD with MicroSD to USB would not work, GUI is horrible, and you have to load a video twice for it be full screen.

Pros: HDMI, Internal HD Support, Network Support, Ext USB Support. Nice Remote. Compact. Nice case.
Comment:
I bought this to replace my original xbox which has XBMC Installed. Bottom line, I'm not impressed, my xbox has played everything I've thrown it, it has never lagged when playing videos. And supports nearly every audio, video, and picture format in existence and others are easy to add. It works great on my network, and I can play games, emulators and even use it as my computer.I didn't even get my rebate of $30, but I don't care because I'm selling this now anyways, xbox ftw.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons: - Absolutely terrible GUI- No support from Patriot (The community however is awesome)- Diminished functionality with every single firmware update.- Network transfers come no where close to 10mb/s (Around 3.8mb/s with FTP, even less if using Samba)- Just a weak player in general.

Pros: Plays a variety of media, doesn't choke up as long as it's on the HD.
Comment:
Overall this would be something that if you know what you're doing with Optware, it's a decent player as you can load Linux programs on your box and run them. However if you're not *nix proficient, this is completely useless and you're far better off buying a O!Play or a WDTV Live with an external HD.

Generally works well but the fan is fairly loud. Also the fast forwarding doesn't really go faster than about 4x even though it says that it's going much faster. Firmware is a little bit flaky and there are no stable firmware upgrades available. This review was modfied by poster @ 02-14-10 07:02 PM

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons: not as many firmware updates as it's sister products (asus o!play)

Pros: plays pretty much anything i throw at it, option to add a 2.5" hd is awesome.
Comment:
contrary to what i have been hearing, i haven't had any noise problems from the unit, i have to put my ear up to it to hear the fan humming, and when i install a 2.5" hd in it, the hd itself is louder then the fan.i've read some people bashing the option of installing a hd into the unit, but i find this feature extremely useful, especially when on trips, and you want to bring this unit along, you don't have to lug around an external storage unit just to watch movies.after using the WD myTV, i find this product much more better. as it was able to play videos with subtitles that didnt lag or display the subtitles selectively (where sometimes they showed up, sometimes they didnt) which is what the WD unit did. but im not sure if that unit had any updates applied, or if WD fixed these problems or not, as i dont own the WD unit, my cousin does. also something this unit was able to do, while the WD unit couldnt, was play an audio track of this one specific MKV i had. for some reason the WD had problems playing that file, while the realtek based unit breezed through it.the only thing that would make this unit a lot better would be better firmware support and opensource support, as its sister product produced by asus has both, lots of firmware updates and the firmware source code is up for download.

Pros: Read almost all formats, very cool temperature, HDMI supported

Pros: Once updated, it can play everything. HD content looks awesome and so does the 480p content. The possibility to use a hdd.

Cons: Doesn't seem to remember network passwords so you have to re-enter each time you turn it on. Doesn't have internet/network time sync function.

Pros: Compact. Picture quality on my LCD is really nice. Nice remote.
Comment:
I bought this unit so that I could stream movies over my home network to a bedroom TV. When I first turned it on, it was loud - a bad internal fan. I checked Patriot's forum and soon found this was a common issue. I requested a replacement fan, which arrived in less than a week. Once installed, the unit is now quiet and working nicely! Firmware update s seem to have stopped at a Beta version for some reason. I'd like to see a firmware update  that addresses the password and time issue. Generally though, I think this unit is great and seems to be working nicely for my purposes.

Cons: LAN is not Gigabit

Pros: Easy to useRelatively Quick MenusLAN Connectivity
Comment:
I bought this for my parents because they use my old xbox at the lake. I was pleasantly surprised by it out of the box and really appreciated not having to download and install 3rd party firmware to play various obscure to some media types. The menu load time is actually quite quick using a regular LAN connection as it took me less than a minute to load and display a folder containing 1000s of MP3 files. I know my parents will appreciate being able to view all media types at once, or selectively list those of a certain type as they're not the greatest at file management. Not being wireless out of the box is nice as it controlls cost, and considering the N standard is not quite established yet, I would rather have the cost savings by making it an option.I would have given it a 5 star, but it did not have a Gigabit controller. Once you put drives on these little devices you really want quick file transfer speeds and 10/100 just doesn't cut it anymore. This review was modfied by poster @ 01-07-10 04:47 PM

Cons: Doesn't work well, buggy firmware even after updating to a new version. Box freezes requiring reboot during every MKV movie.

Pros: Lots of features, if they are all working. Nice looking brushed aluminum case. HDMI cable included.
Comment:
Box freezes after half an hour of playing any MKV. Tried firmware update  and that didn't fix anything. Please go to patriot site forums for media player and then decide for yourself if you still want to buy it. Returning to NCIX and buying a WD media player instead.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons: Fan gets noisy sometimes, sluggish interface at times

Pros: Internal HDD option, LAN connectivity, plays every file format I have, HDMI cable included
Comment:
Picked this up as it has the 2 things that were missing from my WD TV - LAN connectivity and ability to have an internal 2.5" HDD. Remote and instructions are vague on some of the items like File Copy, but you'll eventually be able to muddle through. Browsing sometimes seems to pick up cached info - was detecting PCs and networks that were disconnected, and the remote seems sluggish at times navigating. One thing I'd like to see is a better way to navigate - scrolling through more than 50 titles can be a real pain. Having a hard LAN connection was a definete plus - tried their wireless adapter, and it couldn't keep up to some 720p movies from my media server. Hard LAN line had no issues.

Cons: Slow and clunky interface. Browsing the network is a pain.

Pros: Plays just about anything, especially after firmware update. Decent support for the product. Internal HDD.
Comment:
This replaced my xbox, and usurped my planned media PC. I'm generally happy with it. HDD and network is really nice. It can stream 720p (all I have) over a wireless bridge (wrt54gl) no problem, unless I want to ff/rw.The internal HDD is handy for my wife. I drop  the show she want on it, and she can find them. Getting to a network share is a 6-7 click endeavor, so I'll do it, but the HDD is easy enough. Patriot forums are busy with ideas and issues, so look at them before buying. (http://www.patriotmem.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14&order=desc&page=7)I'd buy it again for sure though.

It can play most movie formats and supports high def unlike the wireless device. You can hook it up to about anything. USB stick, External hard drive, Internal 2.5 hard drive, and even through the network.Overall I defiantly recommend picking up one of these.

Patriot PBO Core Box Office All-in-one 1080p Full HD Media Player with HDMI PCMPBO25
Cons: The firmware update  was frightening. It worked but make sure to do it from a USB key and leave the key connected (don't get excited). And when it starts just wait and do not touch the unit. The spelling mistakes make the GUI look unpolished i.e. "slect" in place of select. As of the most recent firmware captions play by default. Captions must be turned off for each caption bearing movie file you play.

Pros: After a firmware update  plays everything. It even played an x264 .ISO file! 2 DVDs high and about 3/4 of a DVD long. Works nicely with my network and with USB drives. Allows installation of 2.5" HDDs. Picture quality is as good as sources played from my PC. Includes HDMI cable.
Comment:
If you use HDMI for your home theater (I suspect most people do) do not hesitate buying this unit. It has an attractive matte black aluminum finish that doubles as a passive cooler. The fan is audible but not intrusive when playing media files. The GUI is not slick like the Xbox360's media center but it works. Happy viewing!

Love this device!Unpack it, download and install the firmware update, hook up an external drive and away you go. Flawless playback. Flexible audio/video settings. Definitely a great purchase.Be advised that network setup instructions and documentation are sadly lacking. I'd recommend the wireless dongle as well.
