Linux Compatibility
Comment:
Purchased this to make use of an old harddrive for a linux box. Just wanted to let some folks know that it's possible that not all of the linux flavors will work. First tried opensuse 11.2. The OS installed to the harddrive but it would not boot from it. Mandriva 2010 installed and booted beautifully. My results may not be typical, but try to keep it in mind when purchasing this converter.

Took trial and error to make it work.
Comment:
I tried a few things before this worked for me. The solution was that I did not use the splitter that came with this IDE to SATA adapter. I connected the large 4 pin connecter from my power supply to the hd and a small 4 pin connecter from my power supply to the this IDE to SATA adapter. Also, I put a jumper on the hard drive in the master position.

This worked for me
Comment:
Product preformed as advertised. I used 2 to connect 1 Iomega zip-100 and 1 Iomega zip-250 to a new mother board. If it works with these devices it should with less demanding units

Didn't work well at all!!!
Comment:
Connected to my additional Ide HDD. Tried to move files from primary drive. Any file larger then a Gig locked up and crashed my system. Caused a dump memory windows condition. Had trouble rebooting system. after several attempts I decide to move it to my Ide DVD burner. Dvd's played but where not smooth. Either this was defective or it was junk. Ended up buying a Sata HDD. Wasn't able to return this. I would advise anyone who is thinking about using this to consider it carefully. You may not get the results you want.

You need patience with this component
Comment:
Thankfully this site has a great return-exchange policy. That & patience will eventually get you ones that work. The mfg quality is terrible-it may take several returns before you get one that actually works like it is supposed to. Other than that I got 2 of them working just fine under Windows 7.

Doesn't work in Windows 7 nor 64-bit Vista
Comment:
Doesn't work on Windows 7 nor 64-bit Vista. A dozen promises of calling back and sending e-mails were never fulfilled. They are supposedly working on drivers for W7 and Vista but make no promises of getting it to work on those systems.

Upsetting piece of equipment!
Comment:
Put this in a new system with an older hard drive design. After a long time of trial and error. Found I had connected my power switch at both board connectors. My fault. Still did not work so, I connected the large 4 Pin connector from the power supply, not the splitter they use, and it took off. So if you are having trouble, try connection the small connector supplied to the board and a large connector directly from the power supply to the hard drive.

Works if you're patient
Comment:
I purchased this, as I was not prepared to deal with a motherboard that had only ONE IDE header. Every single drive, HDD-CD-DVD-Floppy are all IDE on the old system I was upgrading. Mobo (Zotac nVidia 8200) only has one IDE header. So I was stuck with having a HDD and no CD's (cable wouldn't twist and reach correctly to run them off the same cable), or find an adapter. When I came across this, I thought it was a god-send. Here's the downlow: Pros: Well made, it works and does what it's supposed to do. It plugs in, comes with a SATA cable (I don't know why the other reviewer's didn't), and is straight forward, and plug and play. Cons: I had to "adjust" it's position, as it fits loosely in the IDE port on the HDD. It will "sag", and causes a "No Drive Existent" error. I had to use the SATA cable to "pin" it to the proper position in the drive to get it to work. So if you're strapped for cash, have the patience to fiddle with it a little, and ge

Very Good Product
Comment:
I plugged this little card into the back of my old IDE HDD from my dead XP system, and it was instantly compatible with my new SATA Vista system. A lot of trouble getting the hang of Vista "permissions" but that isn't the card's fault. The only problem -- and the reason it gets a four instead of a five for features -- is that it DIDN'T come with a SATA cable. Make sure you have one to spare if you order this little gem.

Comment:
I give a 5 for value because if it works it saves from having to buy a drive. I give a 3 for features because it only does one thing. I give a 5 for quality because it's mini. I give a 1 for performance because it doen't work. It will boot up to windows but is slow. My gripe is that I get blue screens. I know it's this adapter because if I plug my IDE drive straight into the IDE port on the motherboard, no problems, no blue screens. I tried every jumper configuration possible. It also really doesn't recognize CD drives. I ended up doing what I never do - Put a hard drive and cd on the same channel. It actually performs better than this product. I love (the site) but stop selling this stuff.

I bought four of these, so that I could re-use some of my old drives. I used ''cable select'' jumper setting on the drives and three of four converters worked flawlessly and fast. The fourth converter was DOA and I'm exchanging it, hence the 3 stars on quality. A neat, cost-effective solution for outdated drives.

Haven't got this to work in my Dell yet. Bios sees the drive, but keep getting continual re-boot. The ''blue screen of death'' whips by before I can read it. Comes up in safe mode but sez the OS isn't activated and stops me there. Any ideas out there?

Comment:
I bought two of these when I was installed a new MOBO that only had one IDE connector (I wanted to install two IDE DVD Burners and two IDE hard drives). Some strange things happened with recognition in BIOS, had to mess around for a while. Eventually everything booted correctly and all drives were recognized (at one point I thought they were duds). Can't remember what I did exactly to fix, just tried different settings until it worked. Make sure you connect all three of the power connectors, I only hooked up two initially - instructions would be a good idea. Also consider your drive orientation in the case, mine had the connectors on the left, with the added adaptor and a standard SATA cable, I could not get the side of my case back on. I ended buying a new case - this provided a good excuse. Alternatively try a 90 degree SATA cable Tiger Number C184-10181.

Product came without instructions. Took me a couple hours of tinkering to figure it out. I got this to work on an IDE hard drive by putting the harddrive jumper on master and leaving the adapter jumper off.

Shipped with no documentation, but I guess you shouldn't need it; a part like this either works, or it doesn't. For me it didn't. Everything plugs in the way it looks like it should, but my Intel D201GLY2-based budget system just couldn't find the HDD, no matter what I did in BIOS. I wound up buying a cheapie SATA HDD rather than re-using the old IDE drive I had kicking around. Probably should have just done that in the first place. Waste of $15.00.

I bought this hoping to solve my IDE situation, crossed my fingers, easy install, simple connections, huh, jumper, why? Needless to say, the board didn't work,I tried every jumper possibilty still nothing, I contacted there support web site. Seven days now, still no reply from them. Maybe this unit only works on certain motherboards. But not on mine. I sent it back to Tiger and went out and bought a new serial ATA DVD burner.

Bought two, failed to get either one working on two different hard drives, CD, burner or DVD player. Been a total waste of time so far. Did find a picture online of exactly the same mini card which maybe showed a jumper on pins near SATA connector.(there are an awful lot of different ones from same manufacturer, with the same part number) Without any instructions or information for trouble shooting on manufacturers site its a waste of money. I'm taking mine back.

OMG...this thing is a POS. I can't even count how many BSOD I got. I literally lost count (no joke). Talk about irritating! I ended up buying a new SATA HD and of course then I needed a new power supply for the HD. This converter was inexpensive and it's apparent why. I'm utterly amazed at all the good reviews! And the new HD & PS, I had to buy, is working like a champ! Also Tiger Direct Products! Kudos for that, despite everything else.

Good idea for a device, but poor follow through. NO instructions were in my boxes or on their website. I bought 3 of these, after 12 hours of fiddling with the different jumper set up possibilities/ different boards or ATA Drives and a few lame emails to Sebrent. I give up. They are going back today. Interestingly, I also have a SBT-RDIT IDE Raid Controller card too and only one of the 2 IDE Channels work.....Do I see a pattern here??? DO NOT BUY THESE....

The other guy's right - it would be something if there were some instructions - they put in a leaflet that doesn't say crap about how to install. Once I get this one working (isn't yet), then I'll be a happy camper - I usually get great parts from Tiger - I ''mostly'' trust Tiger to have decent stuff, but I wish they would review some of the items they get to sell once in a while! Oh well, another half hour trying to get the darn machine back out of the hutch to work on it AGAIN.

This works fine... if you can figure out how to install it. It is a little pricey for what it is, especially with S&H. I would rate it higher if it came with ANY instructions. Here ya go: 1. Attach the supplied power adapter to IDE power cable from your power supply. 2. Plug SATA cable into the card. 3. Attach the small power plug into the card, even though it doesn't look like they quite go together (and they don't, quite). 4. Leave the jumper on the card alone. 5. Plug the card into your drive. 6. Plug the SATA cable into your motherboard (or SATA card) 7. Attach the extension end of the IDE power adapter to your drive's power port. 8. Boot your computer up. 9. If your system doesn't quite get it at first, try rebooting.
