This connected just fine to my 200GB IDE HD and after connecting the power etc, was recognized right away. This is going to be my second HD, so I haven't installed any OS on it, so not sure about the whole boot issue. In any case, the product works great! I might be buying another one for my IDE DVDRW :)

Got it to work. I bought two for my DVD burner and ROM. Took a few tries but it is worth it. Bought a BBK and realized that my MB only had one IDE connection. This really saved me some money.

The only complaint is that I wish they cost a little less, but I love them! Vague documentation at best. They sit flush to the back of the drive unlike many others (I have both styles)so they take up less room, and you don't feel like the converter will snap off. Those complaining about the computer not detecting the drive--connect your ide cables, put in your os disk. when the install prep starts press f6 to load additional BIOS drivers (your RAID drivers). Load the drivers, shutdown, swap out to SATA then reboot. You should be good to go.

Might work great for hard drives, but I wanted it to rid myself of bulky ide cables on my burners, and this did nothing for me. I don't recommend it for burners or other optical media.

After I installed the board my BIOS didn't see the HDD. One of the pins on the power cable that is attached to the board had backed out of the cable connector and was therefore not supply all the power to either the board or the HDD. When I discovered this problem and made sure the pin was fully connected it worked great.

After I installed the board my BIOS didn't read the HDD. I figured out that both the board and HDD needed power. Once I pluged in the power to the HDD my BIOS saw the HDD and it works great. This item saved me money, now I don't have to buy a HDD external case and I can put my extra HDD to use. Great Price!

Worked perfectly for both my DVD burner and CD burner. In response to Dan (oct3, 2006), Removing the jumper on the board enabled my DVD burner to work. Maybe you've tried this maybe not, hope it will fix the problem!

Excellent!!! Plugged it in, turned computer on, and my computer noticed my 200gb HD instantly in my BIOS and in Windows. A great product. Brilliant!!!

Got 2. One for an HD, one for DVD burner. HD worked, but no matter what setting I changed, the Burner did not. Cool device for HDs, but not DVD burners

Got 4 of these to set up a RAID array using some old IDE hard drives. Works as expected. One problem!! Our kit did not include SATA cables, but we had some kicking around so it is not an issue.

I bought this after I read the four other reviews giving uniformly very high ratings. For me, however, I have not been able to have any IDE hard drive (two 80s and one 160 GB, three different mfrs) to work with this device. It seems straightforward - the disks spin up, but the Dell BIOS does not ''see'' the drive, regardless of what SATA position (1, 2, or 3) the drive is in. I haven't tried the 0 position. I was really hoping this would work - so it goes.

The device works well on HD's But the power port is in the way to use it on DVD drives or any drive that has it's 4 pin power port right next to the 40 pin connector

This device is indeed interesting. It allows a user to mount a normal ATA hard drive as SATA. I had higher expectations of this device, such as it being bios-detectable, but I shouldn'tve expected gold from aluminium. However, this device DOES let users mount more than 4 devices, depending on their SATA specs. And for under 20 dollars, and no drivers to install, or a PCI card to fumble with. And if your board supports the Hot-Plug function, you could fasion an ejectable tray to make a removable device array. As I said, A rather interesting device.

Excellent product for those who need to keep the ide HD with the new SATA technology. I transfered my 200 Go drive with this adapter without any problem. A quick and cheap way to move in the SATA world.

Works Great! I've had this 80 GB Hard Drive sitting around for a year now because my motherboard only has SATA left in it and when I bought it, I was thinking I had one more IDE port. I would recommend it if you need to convert your IDE over to SATA.
