YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO USE JUMPERS WITH THIS Product!! This conversion eliminates the use for jumpers, so if you attempt to use a jumper it won't boot. I've borrowed my buddy's for a tiny while, worked great for me. directions could not aid stupid men and women. I'll will be ordering 1 of these myself not a terrible cost, I've seen some for $xx.

Functions! Don't even notice that I'm not doing actual sata. I would undoubtedly reccomend this drive, at least for difficult drives. It took a tiny fiddling with jumpers to get it to perform. I needed the drive set to master and the device jumper left where it was for it to function. At times when I move sata ports on the mobo it'll stop recognizing, but a handful of reboots and a lot more fiddling and it functions again.

It does precisely what it supposed to do; I can plug my old IDE difficult drives into SATA connectors on the motherboard. The boards look flimsy but after it's installed, you won't be handling it any longer. (I didn't attempt ((or need)) it for any optical drives so I can't comment about that.) I'm not trying to sound harsh; however, I actually don't fully grasp peoples' confusion with this item. 1) It’s a SATA connector, there is no Master/Slave to believe about, of course you'd set the jumpers to "cable select". two) Why would you expect a SATA power connector? The drive you're plugging it into is nonetheless an IDE drive; it's just emulating a SATA drive.

Decent design, simplistic, and you can't seriously screw it up. Study the box label. Why would they contact it a "SATA-to-IDE" when they convert IDE drives to SATA format?? It Really should be referred to as an "IDE-to-SATA converter"! Not a lot else, people just want to believe prior to they name/market/sell a product. Note: NewEgg has nothing at all to do with this challenge, they are generally incredible.

Does convert the interface. I place numerous of these into a server exactly where we had a motherboard die and the new board was SATA and all the devices have been PATA. The challenge is that the SATA CONNECTOR IS NOT A LOCKING CONNECTOR. So if you move something inside the server it is extremely straightforward to have 1 of these cables pull off. This adapter needs to be redesigned with a locking connector.

Board does what it was made to do. Sped up transfers by about 10 MB/sec. IDE would max out at about 40 MB/sec (when lucky) this simply pushes it to 55 MB/sec. Particularly IDE drives with a massive cache size Ƙ MB). Appreciate the solution None so far. I have mine in a case which is really tigh, so the sata connectors are pushing against the outside door, causing the connectors to remain in. Otherwise they tend to "fall", in that they are sort of angled with the weight of an SATA cable. Nothing at all genuinely, NewEgg shipping was rapidly and trustworthy as usually.

Keeps legacy drives alive Undocumented. Like all back-of-drive printed circuit adaptors, it could short. SATA connector does not lock. May well want a jumper block if you have to adhere to the identical guidelines I did. I would not have gotten this beastie functioning devoid of the aid of other reviewers here. Thank you all!Standard guidelinesɅ - Set the drive to Cable Choose. two - Discover the jumper pair labelled 'J2'. The labels are In between the jumper header and the adjacent SATA connector, and I had to trim away some stray plastic on the jumper header to see them. Spot a jumper block on J2.3 - Connect to drive, connect cables, run.I have not however been in a position to test for performance.

Great concept if it was trusted. I did handle to get this item to work, but I discover it very 'hit or miss'. All was fine, till I rebooted my Pc, now I can't see the HD in Vista. Shows up in BIOS. This is without having changing anything in the setup. Lastly took it out of my system and hooked up my DVD burner and ATA HD in a master/slave config. on the single IDE channel. Not the ideal but at least it operates. You take your chances with this item, various men and women appear to be happy with it. I want I was as well.

this issue fit completely on my two dvd -burners and it easily converted the IDE to SATA and a extremely easy setup had some issues at very first with the Pri and Master but you just need to have to alter your ide pins to Cable Pick i would deferentially advise somebody to purchase this if they don't wanna waste a completely fantastic ide drive as an alternative of obtaining a complete new sata drive

It recognizes my old Sony CD-RW drvie (Model CRS140E) as a CD-ROM. When it is working, I have no troubles reading the CD from the drive. It will not detect the Sony CD-RW drive for the duration of warm reboot. Every single time when I want to use this drive (on ECS P965T-A motherboard with JMicron Controller), I want to cold boot my Computer (Win XP Pro). Since it only register the CD-RW drive as a CD-ROM, for that reason I can not burn any CD with it unless I connect it to the JMicron IDE controller. I had a tough time attempting to load Ubuntu on a new develop with Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 CPU and Seagate 300MB Sata drive. Hoping that I will be capable to convert the Sony CD-RW IDE drive to Sata that will permit me to load Ubuntu. However, that has other problems with Ubuntu (Both 6.06 and 6.10) versions.

it functions as a storage drive/backup. I purchased an SSD for my older Dell desktop computer in hopes I would be capable to speed up the machine (the motherboard was a IDE interface but the SSD was SATA). When I attempted to use it to boot the laptop off of the drive - it wouldn't perform... I did the same factor for a newer SATA toshiba difficult drive and it was even slower than the significantly less then great 5 year old internal WD HDD. It performs if you want to store files but didn't look to perform nicely as a boot drive (for SSD or HDD).

Conceivably can be a fantastic enable in the right applications after you get it functioning. It is uncomplicated, inexpensive and tries to fill a genuine need to have as the globe converts to SATA Even though physical installation is simple, the lack of documentation and support presents a true challenge to overcome unexpected design and style flaws. The suggestions in these newegg evaluations had been most helpful in receiving the board going. Heed the suggestion of other reviewers here to put tape on the underside of the board, so that the exposed solder joints do not short out against the really hard drive case. Also, if you locate that your personal computer begins to freeze randomly and unexpectedly and you have attached the board to your boot drive, I recommend removing the board or attempting it on a non-boot drive to see if that clears the dilemma.

Uncomplicated to install. After about an hour this device caused my tough drive to overheat. I unhooked it, and attempted one more drive in another pc and it did the similar point. Now both drives aren't even detectable by their manufacturer's diagnostic software program.Fantastic idea for a product - but don't threat it. Who of you are prepared to danger your information?

This thing has saved my rear several occasions. Like how dell doesn't consist of PATA on it's newer systems. I haven't had a problem with it however. Pair this with Acronis, a three.5-2.five notebook adapter and your set. I had one created by Silicone Image in the previous. That one had a clear plastic chassis on it. I can't discover them any far more. This is that one particular, no case. That is the only purpose for 4Ǜ. Don't be violent with it. They can snap.

Low cost, apparently great compatibility, simple to set up. I hooked it up to a 300GB Maxtor DM10 in the 2nd SATA bay. It is the boot drive now, there have been zero issues. None so far. For installation in a G5, you require either a power line splitter, or an adapter from SATA power connector to regular 4-pin. This board's integrated wire harness requires a typical four-pin power cable, and splits it to power the board and the attached drive. It does not accept a SATA power connector.

Extremely smaller size, uncomplicated install. Fits completely in the MAC G5 Tower. Personal computer instantaneously reconized the drive and mounted no dilemma. (Drive was prevoiusly in my G4) Energy plug is different, (MAC only) I utilised this item to set up a ATA drive in my Mac G5 that only makes use of SATA drives. Only issue was the Mac Power connector is different than the plug on this adaptor. Ended up employing a Y spliter on the energy cable to the Optical drive to power this unit. Performs properly. Highly recomend for G5 owners with old ATA drives.
