Anecdotal proof doesn't truly mean a lot, but FWIW, I've yet to have any concerns with the handful of WD drives I've owned. These drives are quieter than the two Samsung EcoGreen 1TB they replaced. The Samsung drives weren't loud by any implies, but could be heard a bit when you have been operating them hard, whereas I never hear these WD drives above the noise from my case fans. Much more high priced than other 1TB 5400RPM drives. Some customers report quite alarming load cycle counts with WD Caviar Greens, may be worth researching before you obtain one particular of these drives. Goes devoid of saying that these (and other 5400RPM drives) are a poor decision to run your OS from, but they're fantastic if you just will need affordable, trusted storage. Making use of two of these drives in a RAID 1 array. I was sort of worried about the drives not supporting TLER, but so far haven't run into any concerns simply because of this (knock on wood).

Affordable, high capacity My initial WD10EACS died soon after significantly less than a year. It became unreadable and corrupted and they sent a new WD10EADS to replace it. Now much less than a year later this drive as well is corrupted and unreadable. Tests say also several poor sectors and now all of my terabyte worth of information is lost. Stay away from the caviar green really hard drives especially the 1 terabyte models.

1. Temperature hovers at around 30 C through heavy write/reads.two. Whisper quiet.3. Huge capacity4. Fairly cheap It's not a 7200 RPM drive, so create/read speeds aren't as rapidly, but this aspect all depends on your usage of the tough drives. It's in the living area HTPC I constructed from a barebones rig. Quiet, quiet quick, and lots of storage. There's small air movement in the tiny mini-ITX case, but the drive temp nonetheless hovers at only 30 C. That's quite darn cool when you consider that most 7200 RPM drives hover at 40 C or higher.

Wonderful size for the cost, and does not give off hardly any heat compared to the other drives. All round I would get this just for reliability of the hardware of the challenging drive. There is a noticable loss of difficult drive speed but nothing at all to worry about.

I usually obtain WD.Awesome seek time and Cache actually anything for a "green" drive. RPMs reduced than its "black" caviar counterpart but makes up for it in silence. Fantastic drive if it lasted. broke immediately after only two months. 149 terrible sectors and 1 failing spindle. Had to use Linux live disk to back up (recoverable information) to external drive. Second lemon from western digital so far. No jumpers incorporated for windows XP customers. Installed on windows 7 anyway but would be good to consider XP users. Hopefully the replacement wont drop my respects for WD drives since they are the only drives I advocate and acquire. Cause for giving it two stars alternatively of 1 was WD client help. Plus efficiency was good although it worked. Wished Newegg would consider really hard drives a 90 day return but can not complain Newegg just rocks.

Popped in, powered up and operates like a charm. Did have some set up troubles, Laptop began failing POST but turns out, I unplugged something even though putting it in. It does make an odd buzzing at startup and when 1st being accessed. From what I can tell, practically nothing to be concerned about. Load times noticeably slower than a 7200rpm.

Flawless. Runs cooler than the old hard drive I had (which failed soon after about 36 months of use). Because it runs cooler, my complete computer is now running 4-five degrees cooler. Performance appears just as excellent or greater than the drive Apple sent with the laptop and I now have triple the capacity. None so far. I researched which drive I wanted for my iMac and this seemed like a excellent fit. Soon after about 60 days inside the pc, it has been Best!

Substantial Capacity. Low power use. Super huge cache for buffer. I have to admit I am please with this drive. I use this for big file storage on my household network and when the transfer has a possibility to buffer this thing is excellent. As the title states this drive must actually be employed only for storage purposes. When I installed the drive in my HTPC/Server I had windows xp installed on it. With the drive getting such a low RPM the seek occasions are not the greatest. It took a even though to open applications and what not. As I said this is wonderful for a rig that has to run 24ǝ. I replaced this drive as my boot drive with a 36gig raptor. This in slave becomes a fantastic accessory to any technique.

Good price, low power consumption. Ordered four, 1 was DOA, 1 had also a lot of terrible sectors. RMA by means of NEWEGG was painless except for paying the return shipping for receiving a poor item. Guess it was my fault they sent me bad drives. The replacement drives arrived in an unbelievable package. The box was four occasions too major and the drives had been placed on the Outside edge of the box with all the packing in the middle. All there was to defend the drives from the carriers was 1 layer of bubble wrap. It had been handled so rough that the bubble wrap was popped and there had been various influence holes in the anti-static bag that WD packs them in.Ran thorough testing and both passed, outstanding. Newegg must place QC in their shipping division. It doesn't take an engineer to know difficult drives ought to be packed like eggs not anvils.

WD reputation of their challenging drive lines Caviar Green reputation of not being quick adequate for a boot drive. It's just unfounded! Green drives with the new 4K sector scheme is at 1st confusing. They require to simplify the Advanced Format documentation

Quiet, cool, more rapidly than expected. It's a HDD - moving components = assured future troubles. I didn't count on considerably from a 5400 RPM HDD, but the drive I got posts HDD benchmark outcomes 95% of my 7200 RPM drives (ATTO and Diskmark). Overall, I'm really happy with this drive. I would not use it for my OS drive unless I had no 7200 RPM or SSD drives laying about. I'm utilizing mine for backup chores in a BlacX esata box - a job for which this HDD appears to be really well suited.

Excellent cost and other reviews had been very good.... Newegg did a good job shipping it out. Had difficulty with OS seeing drive and had to resort to using a dos based HD tool and then the tough drive failed immediately after only 12 hours. Glad I had not transfered data to it however. Hope Newegg handles RMA as excellent as they did selling ans shipping me the HD in the first spot.

Took some time figuring out exactly where the challenge was due to the test aborting prior to it spotted the bad sectors... soon after checking every little thing else went back and ran the test again and then identified and fixed sectors... similar factor 2nd time I had it glitch.

Wanted a cooler running drive for junk storage, speed wasn't a concern.Purchased it to replace a SATA drive that burned out, and to hold blu-ray pictures for burning. Lots of room, tiny speed required. Decided to try a diverse version of Linux (ubuntu 64bit)Partitioned fine, created a 300 gig vfat for windows, but would in no way bootafter installation, just filesystem panics. After 4 failed attempts, just deleted all the partitions and let it use the entire drive, and booted right up.So it may have an challenge with the active partition, will test with a typical slackware set up immediately after a try this ubuntu factor out for a handful of weeks, then I will know if it is the drive or this weird grub loader failing. Showed up on doorstep day immediately after holiday, so wife discovered it ahead of I broke the news that I bought it. Oops. It even beat the tracking method, so I couldn't comply with it by means of the technique building up the anticipation.

I bought one particular of these drives and it died two weeks following I received it. Bummer proper? RMAed it and got a new one particular. Had to use WD align mainly because I'm nevertheless employing the old dinosaur XP. The new one particular ended up not having the very same bugs the defective drive did. You can truly discover the quicker seek speed with the 64MB cache. Even so, and I get this a lot from un-intelligent individuals<------(wasn't permitted to use the word I wanted) that don't fully grasp drive structures, the drive will only be about 945MBs when formatted for XP. There is this small issue known as a Master File Table individuals. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! None so far, just hope now that I've re-backed all my movies games and stuff on the drive it doesn't die like the 1st one did. Arranging on working with this with Windows 7 when I upgrade to a newer Computer. Wonder how much much better it will perform with out obtaining to use WD align.

A quite fantastic drive when it performs. Appropriate out of the anti-static bag this drive would spin up, but was not recognized by 3 different computer systems, and it made a soft ticking sound (never a fantastic thing). Either a drive functions or it doesn't, and this one particular was a brick. It price me ů.50 to RMA this sucker by way of UPS, so it turns out not to be such a bargain. Subsequent time I'll acquire my difficult drives from a local computer shop and conserve myself the RMA shipping charges on the bricks. My 1 egg rating is not for the drive, but for WD permitting poor drives to make it past their QA, or for the particular person that mal-treated the drive at some point in the supply chain. Newegg's RMA course of action gets 5 eggs for becoming rapid and uncomplicated. The replacement drive worked 100% (according to Windows XP and the Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics utility).

I got this drive about 6 or so months ago. It has not provided me any issues whatsoever. The 64 MB of cache in fact tends to make the access occasions on the drive tolerable. I use it as my most important backup drive. I added bitlocker to it for added safety which surprisingly did not slow down the drive to any noticeable degree. Bitlocker did take over 12 hours to full initially. There are no cons I can feel of at this time. This drive has met and exceeded my expectations for the price tag. Incredibly critical for you to know about any huge drive is to usually do a long format. As soon as you get the drive, connect as a slave and uncover it in my computer system. Open the props and format drive uncheck speedy format. This can mean the distinction between your drive dying in three - 6 months or not for some purpose. I have tested this theory in the field and extended formats last longer. Less file method errors down the road. Spend the time now, have much less undesirable HDD reviews xP

It worked when I recieved it. Only cause it gets two eggs. Produced my blazing fast system crawl and crash. I can\'t express how significantly I hate this point. My program was perfectly fine just before I decided that I needed a new drive due to the fact my old Seagate 1TB saw a lot of use and I figured it would be good to use it as a backup seeing as it proved to be trustworthy. Massive mistake! This drive is so terrible it tends to make my installation lock up and freeze ALL THE TIME. I can't hardly boot into windows without having some thing crashing. I attempted reisntalling windows and almost everything, checked all the components, and it wasn't till 3 months soon after I bought it that it dawned on me I had all these issues when I installed the new drive.Avoid this 1!
