Cons: Must format with partitions that are multiples of 8 to get max performance on Linux systems.

Pros: Everything you'd expect from a HD
Comment:
Got this drive yesterday, installed like a charm, nothing to report. On my linux media center, I red that the partitions needed to be multiple of 8 in order to get better performance, after playing with it, managed to do it. Windows 7 is supposed to handle this automatically.

Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive Caviar Green SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons: -

Pros: -Quiet-Decent Performance-Low Power
Comment:
This drive is very quiet and has respectable performance. But I'm sure you already know that from the many reviews. If you use the drive in Windows XP you'll want to either set jumpers 7 and 8 or use the WD alignment software that is freely available on their website. Note that there was no jumper included with the drive. I set the jumper, as I had a bunch on hand. It's my understanding that setting the jumper will only align (in XP) the first partition, so only set the jumper if you use a single partition that spans the whole drive, otherwise use WD's alignment software. Again, this is only something you need to worry about in XP.CrystalDiskMark results on the drive that I just received (2010-09) are as follows:Seq 109.9 106.8512K 41.82 61.554K 0.571 1.0744K QD32 0.587 0.825

Cons: Not a SSD ... does that count as a weakness? None really.

Pros: Does exactly as advertised, is a low-power drive with good reliability.
Comment:
I got a pair of these to put into RAID1 to store my worthless old junk and I have to say this drive exceeded my expectations. I used the on-board RAID 0/1/10 controller on my Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P mobo and it went a lot easier than I expected.1 TB seems like a good amount of storage for now, and while these drives are slower than most they are intended for long life, low power consumption, and low temperatures. Long life has yet to be proven, but the other two are already evident.

Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive Caviar Green SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons: Won't hot-swap on many external enclosers due to unique boot timing. (At time of this post you have to power up drive then plug in E-sata cable to get windows to mount the drive).

Pros: Totally Silent and Cold as ICE.
Comment:
This drive is fast, silent and stays cool, unfortunately due to timing issues it is NOT hot-swappable (as advertised by WD, [please note this is said to be a problem with only the newest revision of the drive, older drives don't have this problem]) for most people using various eSata docks. In order to make it Hot-Swap (at the time of this post) you have to use USB or you must spin up the drive and then plug in the eSATA cable (Something I'm very uncomfortable doing). So if your looking for an external drive for storage I cannot recommend this drive, but if you are running it as an internal drive it is perhaps the best drive I have ever owned. 3 Stars vote from me since I bought it for external use with a BlacX Hot-Swap dock. Pros: - quiet- great value for the dollar- good performance for being a low-power drive
Comment:
Using this drive for 5 weeks, it is quieter than my 640GB Caviar Blue and has no problem as my torrent drive with constant writes and reads. There`s not much that comes close to this drive`s value and performance per dollar.

Cons: None, I use it for external backup where I don't need the fastest drive.

Pros: So far, really quiet in a external enclosure. Price per GB ratio really good.
Comment:
Ncix did a safe job with the shipping of it. plenty of paper, air packs, and bubblewrap. If you experience trouble with the drive being recognized, I'd suggest running diskmgmt.msc and look if it shows. Then you can assign it a drive letter.

What else is there to say wd has very good quality componentsif you are looking for speed go for the black version or if you have money to burn a velociraptor might suit your needs as well but for storage of movies or a backup drive this is a good choice

Cons: not as fast as some other drives, but perfectly fine for HD playback

Pros: very quiet, low cost, low power draw
Comment:
I picked up this on sale for more storage on my HTPC. These green drives are the quietest I've found. Perfect for an HTPC. I have the 1.5TB version in my HTPC as well and you can't hear a thing. Playback is fine. Great value when on sale.

Cons: ?

Pros: Large capacity at low cost. New technology standard! Fun product number to say. Fairly quiet in an external enclosure.
Comment:
I bought this with a USB 2.0 external enclosure (SKU 28198) for backup/archival purposes on a Win 7 system.I use the drive infrequently, and I've yet to benchmark it internally, but it works solidly the way I use it (i.e. infrequently, as a large contiguous storage dump).I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for a large storage drive.

Cons: Takes forever to format a full 1TB on SATA2 still (crappy mobo doesn't help)

Pros: Headroom, low price
Comment:
Movie storage for a mediacenter PC, works perfectly. w 5400RPM it's a tad slower but will last a bit longer and for just accessing video, is a slick choice. Price rocks too ; )

Cons: Found none so far.

Pros: It works well with great read and write speeds.More than enough room for all your programs and documents.
Comment:
I did not really need a 1TB as most of my things an fit in my 500GB external hard drive but I bought it because it was 80 bucks. I copy things back and forth from my external hard drive to this (both are western digital) and it is done in a matter of seconds. It was an OEM so no cables were included which surprised me at first since this was my first build but my motherboard came with a sata cable so no worries.

Comment:
I use this as a main drive in an HTPC that runs Windows Media Center all the time, it's a little slow but I don't know if that's the hard drive or the 2gb of ram, or lack of video card. For the price I couldn't really turn it down.

Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive Caviar Green SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons: None.

Pros: Silent, fast on copying/transferring large files.
Comment:
All in all it is a good storage solution if you need extra space. WD Green series has no equivalent offer from the competition in my opinion: it is cheap, silent, runs cool and is optimized for storage. Maybe not fast enough for main partition to install Windows (didn't try though..), but it I would give it a try in raid 0 with 2 of those when I get some time to test. Really satisfied.

Great drive
Comment:
Pros: fast, sustained write speed of about 90mbs according to benchmarks, runs relatively cool compared to my raptor. Powers down when not in use. Reliable, been using for more than a year now at 90 percent fill and hasn't failed me yet. Very quiet. Cons: Slow start-up time, does not support SATA3 Other Opinions: I bought two of these, one for virtual machines the other for Media and programs etc. They take up quite large chunk of space and can heat up after a good long virus scan. So make sure you have a well ventilated case.

Cons: Wished I had waited for SATA3 (explained in summary)

Pros: very quiet, don't even know it's "working".
Comment:
Got this for data backup in conjunction with docking station. It's great for this purpose--nice and quiet, don't even know it's running even when it's accessed.Wished I waited for SATA3 version but you know, it's the old story: buy something today, it's obsolete tomorrow. I'm glad I got this in any case as it's great value. It's not obsolete by any means as there is always something newer/better/faster coming out the day after you buy.

Cons: Don't see any read further to see why

Pros: Reliable, don't have any problem yet
Comment:
This is not a Velociraptor or a SSD this is a perfect drive for data. I buy this so that all my data wouldn't be on my main drive (with multiple partitions). I put my music, my movies, softwares, comics, backup (GHOST). In total I moved 576Gb to this drive and I can assure you this drive is fast and reliable. With HD Tune Pro I recorded 112MB/s in write and an access time of 15ms. This drive don't consume a lot of power, ain't hot at all and will live long all thanks to the 5400rpm, the 4K sector and the 64MB cache. Today I would take the 1.5TB rather than the 1TB.

Cons: Read that by inserting short on Pins 7&8 you can use these in WHS as data drive (NOT, NOT, NOT as System drive!!!). Tried it and it works fine. Guess I'll have to swap out my 3 existing 1TB in my Acer easyStore WHS for these 3 new ones...

Pros: Price, this is an update  to my previous review...Plugged in one drive as internal on Windows 7 system and drive worked fine. Was able to initialize using MBR and format. Retried in Sans Digital USB enclosure with FreeNAS and drive is still not detected
Comment:
Know what you're doing when purchasing these drives!!! You might have problems getting them to work in your setup but it does not mean the drives are bad. Knowing this I now wish I had purchased 1.5TB drives for a bit more $ and not have to move all my data around...added an egg cause the drives do work just a hassle if you don't know what you're getting into.

Solid hard drive
Comment:
I purchased 3 of these from another vender. I got them installed in a RAID5 setup and my case has a 120mm fan built in it to keep the hard drives cool. In my tower these hard drives run near to room temperature. My raid 5 setup was handling transfer rates of around 140MBs. Since I just use it for storing my videos and such, this is quite nice and it seems they have a good chance on lasting a long time due to how cool they are running.
