Good grive
Comment:
I bought this drive from a different vendor 5 months ago. Runs very quiet and cool. Lots of movie storage for my HT system. No problems so far. It is a variable speed drive 5400 - 7200 rpm. Would not use for a main HD.

Great deal
Comment:
No idea why so many others are having problems. Maybe they just got the wrong ones because my drive has been working fine for months. I bought this a while ago on sale for around $76 and it was a great buy for me. I store all of my games and recorded fraps video on it and I have never had any problems. It runs cooler than my 320GB WD that I use for booting. If you want fast boot times or are disappointed because it doesn't seem fast... buy a freaking velociraptor or an SSD. Don't expect a 5400 RPM green drive to be a speed demon...

Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive Caviar Green SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons: Needed to use WD Align for use on Windows XP due to lack of jumpers

Pros: Easy to setupWorks as expectedFast
Comment:
I bought two of these on sale for $79.99 for my media server. They didn't come with any jumpers needed for use on Windows XP, so I had to run WD Align to get the partitions aligned properly. Great performance, read/write speeds are pretty good. No complaints otherwise. Definitely recommended.

slows down my PC to a crawl
Comment:
good price, but if you have to wait until the PC reacts when you click on something for up to 5 seconds and that with barely anything running on it means it is a piece of equipmnet that is junk. bought two of them and one I brought back unopened after fighting with the first one for 2 weeks. WD but black not green

very disappointed
Comment:
Bought this drive about 5 months ago put in my computer as extra storage drive. over the last couple of months I have been having problems with my computer freezing and taking extra long time to boot. I replaced mother board and reformatted windows 7. work for a little while then started again. so I started unplugging drives and sure enough it work great after I unplugged this drive and I have not had issues in weeks. I did some research and found that this a common problem with western digital green drives. do not buy this drive!!! I had several important files for work on that drive that I cannot get back.

I put drive this in a Vantec Nexstar CX enclosure to increase the capacity of my Shaw DCT6416. Plugged it into the shaw box and it was recognized immediately, format prompt came up over hdmi connection. Won't run out of space for HD recordings anytime soon.

Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive Caviar Green SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:Too slow for a boot drive, that's about all

Pros:QuietLots of storage spaceLow cost per GB
Comment:
I use this drive to store images, videos and other files, which I can store of lot of thanks to the larger capacity. I use drive in a USB2 case, and it does get warm after a few hours of use, but not too hot. The drive is relatively quiet thanks to the 5400rpm spindle speed. It's too slow to use as a boot drive, but this kind of drive is meant for storage, if you want a fast boot drive get an SSD.

Running PERFECT for one year!
Comment:
Bought this drive April 2009. Installed as a 3rd drive with 2 partitions at 500GB for storage of movies and music. Works beautifully, never an issue. Quiet, fast, reliable. Wouldn't recommend as a primary drive, use something small for the OS (100-250GB) encase the OS tanks. Grabbing a second one since I'm running out of space. Great drive!

I bought this WD Green drive and it didn't even survive the trip home. Went to install it and nothing; a dead drive right out of the box. THis ia a first for me as I always stuck with WD for my storae needs. Will be sitcking with the Black models from now on until better cmes along.

Slow but Worth it
Comment:
Hey guys I just came here to warn you about this drive, I bought it, got it yesterday and have been using it, testing it, and installing as well as uninstalling stuff on it. I've even set it up as my primary Operating System disc and It is Great for holding storage, it does not have any errors of any type, all sectors fine, etc. Full formats fine.. But it is slow, Very slow, it took me 30 - 35 mins to install XP on this and it only took me 10 mins to install the same on a normal 7200rpm 500gb 16mb cache hard disk, so be aware, this HD is for STORING not recommended for running apps.

I have several 1TB WD greens and some Hitachi 1TB deskstars running in a home theater video server. The Greens are very cool running compared to other drives. Virtually silent as well. I had two Hitachi's die in the first six months but none of the greens has had any issues. I only buy greens now.

Comment:
Like the man said as he fell from the skyscraper, so far so good. Only been up and runing for a week, but no problems. Super quiet, cool runnin. Plugged it in, ran Windows 7 installation, loaded all my programs and games. Piece of cake. Havent even put a dent in the storage space yet.

I used this drive as my fourth drive in my Mac pro and it started causing hangup's. I finally had to buy special software to get my data off of the now barely functioning drive and now it's a great paperweight.

Stop dithering and buy these--now!
Comment:
I bought a WDC Green 500GB drive about seven months ago, and it's performed so well that when I saw these WDC Green 1TB drives for $89.99, I bought two of them. They installed with no problem, and have been working perfectly for weeks, now. They run quiet and cool, and they are the fastest SATA II drives I've ever had. At $89.99, they're a steal, and for the next few hours, you can get them even cheaper. If you miss this sale, buy them anyway--you'll be glad you did!

Western Digital WD10EARS 1TB Hard Drive Caviar Green SATA 64MB Cache 3.5IN OEM
Cons:-4KB physical sectors

Pros:-Quite-Fast 110MB/s in Atto-Price
Comment:
Using as a system drive in a HTPC works flawlessly, with Vista or 7. The 4KB sectors are not really a weakness they are why its fast even at low rpm, but require some work for legacy OS, like XP
