none Read/write errors from day one. I utilized a jumper on the pins per WD to use the drive for XP, errors galore. Removed the jumper and ran WD alignment tool, ran fine this way as a backup drive only. After a couple of months the errors began again, chkdsk showed and repaired many bad sectors. WD diag tools showed smart errors and a single unknown error and poor sectors. RMAing to WD. Bought a Seagate to replace this a single. First WD drive I ever had troubles with.

Bought 2 of these for a raid1 setup to store all my brother's media. With hdd prices, it wasn't cheap, but I managed to pricematch them down to $118 a pair. Overall solid drives that should last.

lots of space, one of them didn't fail... ...but the other one did. I purchased two of these to run as a RAID 1 Mirror on our media server. Within a month, one had died and had to be RMA'd. I received a 1.five TB drive in the RMA course of action from WD. So it worked out but nonetheless kind of sketchy.

Worked well while it did. Quiet, relatively speedy for a 5400 rpm drive and ran cool... Ordered three of these, which had been all to be RAID 'd... One was DOA with the click of doom, One more failed with a Smart error nowadays though operating RAID 'd with the remaining oneƖ months after ordering it), so I lost all of my information 460 gigs+ of media, and the third is operating great (so far)...Western Digital isnt impressing me with their "Caviar Green" line up. With a 1 in three hard drive operating ratio, I would highly advise acquiring a distinct challenging drive. I will most likely be acquiring an additional brand tough drive right after my experience with Western Digital. I do personal a 750 Gig caviar GP difficult drive thats been operating just fine for the last 3 years. So Perhaps this is just a freak factor. But nevertheless, two hard drives dead in less than 6 months time, not superior... Perhaps dont RAID either? If 1 drive goes, you'll shed every little thing.-----Intel P4 2.4 X4Asus P5E VM HDMISapphire 5770 1 GBCorsair 520W PSUCorsair XMS 2 2GB X4

Quiet, quite fast, low power usageI have owned the drive for about 8 months now...not 1 single difficulty. It wasnt free? seriously...none other than that QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT STUFF YOU DONT Realize!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I cant speak for folks who obtain a dead drive suitable out of the box, but most folks who have efficiency "issues" with this drive are probably NOT running windows 7, and possibly did NOT use the suitable utility from WD to convert over. ITS BEEN Said Many Times: THIS DRIVE Uses 4KB SECTORS THAT ONLY WINDOWS 7 SUPPORTS!!!!!IF YOU DONT RUN WINDOWS 7...DONT Acquire THIS DRIVE.It genuinely is that uncomplicated. Acquire the Caviar Blue if you are running XP or Vista. If you insist on obtaining this drive with out going to Windows 7, nicely...I guess if you like to complain about stuff..then go for it. If you are too lazy to analysis what/how a 4KB drive is..then you should not be even touching your own pc..take it to a professional.

Cons:Slow.

Pros:Very reliable. Good value at the time I purchased it(pre Thailand floods).

I'm surprised this HDD is still working considering how often I use it. I put all my media on it and run it 12 hours a day for the past 2 years.I've dropped it off the table a few times while moving it around during computer upgrades. I'd probably buy another one once HDD prices stabilize. But I'd use it solely for back up only.

The price for a 1TB drive was quite very good as nicely the delivery also came quickly. Could not use the drive to install Windows 7, I even employed the Ultimite Edition 64bit and, the drive would not install any way. Went to WD website for a new driver for HDD but, even that did not perform. With Windows 7 becoming the newest OS, either the HDD install demands to be setup or one thing else.Returned the HDD for a complete refund and did one more drive and I was in a position to get almost everything done. WD's HDD are usually the very best, I was sad that this didn't do the job I necessary this time. May possibly just be that Windows 7 is to new.

Quiet, Low power, lots of space. Extremely low MTBF. 2 of the four drives I purchased had S.M.A.R.T. reports indicating drive failing within 2 weeks. Newegg set up RMA appropriate away. Now I'm waiting for the replacement drives. Makes me wonder about the other two drives.

Does the job and is huge. None I wrote anther evaluation above confusing this drive with a related WD 1TB I purchased last year. This 1 went into an 8 channel/camera surveillance DVR I purchased at the very same time.Even with 8 channels recording, this unit permits numerous days of archive. Just what the shoppers wanted at a good value.

Cons:-Not that fast, but if you're buying a green drive, you probably aren't getting it for its performance.

Pros:-I've had a high success rate with Caviar Greens-Cheap-Great for cheap builds
Comment:
This is my 5th Caviar Green drive and so far, I haven't had a single one fail on me yet. Knock on wood. To me, that is a good sign of build quality. Comparably, I've had Seagates fail on me left right and center. I would certainly pick more of these up as they get cheaper and larger drives come out.

Large capacity, quiet, cool, decent transfer rates I had to replace a previous drive. (This is the 3rd of these drives I have owned: the very first bought in January 2010 failed and was replaced by a 2nd which has been solid considering that I got it. Nonetheless, I liked the drive sufficient that I purchased an additional when I necessary additional capacity.) It practically seems challenging drive competition has driven quality manage down along with the price. A greater percentage than seems reasonable seem to need to be returned for replacement inside the warranty period. That stated, Western Digital has been exceptional on the 2 drives I needed to replace (the initially of these and yet another, smaller drive earlier). I chose the strategy exactly where they take my credit details and ship me a replacement drive. Their shipping box is then applied to return the defective drive. I had to pay to ship the defective drive, but Western Digital enables an RMA customer to pay for and print a shipping label directly from their site: it makes the complete RMA method as painless as I could hope for.

Worked okay until yesterday, but did have concerns when utilized with power saver in Win 7 Up and died yesterday without warning immediately after much less than a year. Blue screen, clicking noise on boot and main master disk error. Perhaps all that green tech was premature. Initially and last experience with WD. I am going back to Seagate

1 TB for ๆ. It was a great drive! GET One! Regrettably, it died following about two months. Western Digital is incredible IMHO. This is only WD drive that has EVER died on me. I have a 5 year old 36Gb 10k drive by WD that is nonetheless going powerful! I'll get WD to replace it considering that I've had it for a couple of months.

For the initial 36 hours that I had this HDD on my new desktop it worked incredibly nicely and I had no complaints. Soon after that... Soon after the very first 36 hours, the HDD would not retain information and would not boot the OS (Windows 7) at all. Ultimately had to get a Seagate Barracuda to replace this HDD. It came to me in a little cardboard box that contained some bubble wrap that had a few completely popped places. That could have somehow damaged the device, but I doubt it.
