Nothing for Me. got a bad 1, returned it, and new egg sent me a different undesirable one. I usualy don't like to write a critique if i get 1 bad item and the item that replaces it is good. I order alot of stuff from new egg, so if i get a poor item, that happens often, But, if you get a poor item, and you return it and wait to get a replacement, and that one particular ends up negative to, Thats messed up, i build and repair computers, so i usualy have to run to a store thats close, so when i got the replacement, i didn't need to have it untill now. so the return time is up. going to have to get ahold of WD, I do not want an additional Green.

Value, delivery, and set up - drive was inexpensive, arrived rapidly, and installed as boot drive for Windows 7 with no difficulty Reliability - within weeks, the method began pausing for seconds at a time. Then drive controller errors reported in the event log. Then undesirable blocks. Unable to clone due to BSOD, even with drive plugged into another, operating Pc. Had to selectively backup, then rebuild and restore technique. Now the technique is rock solid, with a various drive mfr/model. Ultimately, this drive had a massive expense of ownership. I've applied and loved WD drives for numerous years, but this one was a real disappointment.

Low Expense. Run cool. Quite stable. Incredibly Slow! Data transfer rate peaks about 4seconds in and then drops off drastically. If your planning on placing video on this drive DONT! I've under no circumstances seen windows media player buffer on a read of anysize video on a neighborhood drive until I installed these. I wish I would have just spent a few additional $$ and got a hitachi or WDblue. Great for locker storage, not for library that going to be accessed.

This drive is super quiet and you can barely tell when the read/write heads park and unpark. At 5400 rpms it does the job properly as an more storage dirive in a RAID config. Ive usually had fantastic appear with western digital drives. Its an OEM drive in an antistatic bag....No annoying retail packaging. None yet

Not a negative cost for 1.0TB Its not seriously 1.0TB. Two tough drives show up as 32mb drives. Worthless. Even at the BIOS level they are seen as only 32mb. No jumpers needed on this model like most SATA drives. I tried each WD10EARS drives in multiple computers and asked about to make certain I wasn't missing something in setting these up. I'm preparing to exchange for a various model this time.

Wonderful Value Drive is dead after about three weeks of use as video storage for a home CCTV setup. I'm not positive I want to even attempt a new drive. Seems like 1ǚ of these will be dead in less than a year.

I've owned several WD HDDs and have been happy with them. Except this one particular. Right after detecting the drive in Administrator Tools and a unusually long "quick format" - the drive seemed to be prepared (with a drive letter), but could not access it. Tried to re-format, but it failed. Won't spin up. Just died. Disappointing. Would be nice if these drives could be pre-formatted and tested. RMA'd the drive for a replacement and will see if the other a single is a lot more dependable.

Fantastic energy savings. Excellent, rapidly, courteous warranty service. One particular of the drives quit immediately after 150,000 spin-ups. We ran two of these drives in our NAS for a year. I had accidentally set an aggressive energy-saving spin-down time of 5 minutes. With our use, the spin-up count was about 150,000 within the year--drives are rated about 300,000?. One particular of the two failed. We sent to WD and got a replacement, shipped two-Day Air UPS. Incredibly impressed with the service!

I keep Media and Photo's on this drive it is fantastic storage drive + the green drives take much less power. Though you could go with the Black drives that are faster but additional high-priced if you have a giant media library and want good playback this drive is fantastic. I recommend western digital black or better with solid state drives for your Operating Technique. None Really. This Drive is what it is. A wonderful storage drive. I am a computer system repair man and I always go with either western digital or seagate drives. The green and black drives are extremely good from Western Digital.

I purchased this drive in June 2010 and it has been running precisely how I expect a WD drive to run. Appropriate out of the box and into my rig, WIN 7 Prof 64bit had no complications with it. This is a green drive and runs cool and quiet. None. I do not use it as the boot drive, strictly for music and keeping my drawings of my wood operating projects. Keep in mind any drive can fail and if your data is crucial to you, "Backup, Backup, Backup". I'm pushing 60, no quick action gaming for me. I have had many other manufactures drives fail over my 25+ years working on Pc's, never had a WD drive fail, but there is often a initial time.

1tb. Good for archiving. Low-cost when I bought it. Runs quite cool. Load unload cycles goes up also quick. Like 40k a day on normal pc usage. Has "Intellipark", it's a "feature" on these green drives that parks the head each and every x seconds of inactivity, the default getting 8 seconds for each read & write. This feature will not make the drive last. The drives are intended to be great for 1 million parks. In which will be in no time when acquiring 20k-40k a day. Compared this and my WD Caviar black. The black a single have 43 Load/Unload cycles with a energy-on time of 28 days whilst the WD Green have 170k with a power-on time of 2 days as external storage. Also have issues with working with in between win7/vista and win xp. This drive utilizes new Advanced Format technology. If you format this drive in Win7 and then connect it in win xp. You can access it, copy files etc. But right after you reboot your it will no longer start out. It will corrupt your MBR and even if you repair it, it nevertheless wont start out trigger it moved the block size to five instead of the typical four. Utilizing it in an external enclosure. The only way to prevent an XP technique to be corrupted is to put a jumper on the drive or align it everytime with the technique.

none genuinely I had a single fail right after a handful of weeks, traded out and employed the second one for a little more than a year. Kept the second as media overflow. Confident enough, full read fail very same as the very first. what great is a tough drive if it's reliability is a roll of the dice? I would only take into account these in a raid mirroring array Ƒ). I wouldn't trust them with striping or parity.

Drive is quiet I suppose? I mean who cares when it fails on you practically instantly. Do not purchase this item. I have owned 3 of these drives in succession after exchanging them with WD - all of them have failed within weeks of installing Windows 7. Someone above mentioned it could be a conflict among the WD Green Technologies and Win7 Power Management.I'm not sure what the precise problem is, but my guidance is play it protected, go with a common terabyte drive from an additional manufacturer.I will be purchasing a new drive from Seagate or an additional such company, without having this malfunctioning green tech.

Gig-per-dollar storage, power saving, Newegg costs! As some other reviewers have noted, I am just lucky or something- I have not had anything like the experiences of DOA and 1-week failure. This is my 3rd WD Green drive, operating 1 of them everyday for a year now, the second has been running fine given that the summer of 2010 and no problems. Running these in an Acer Veriton M498G/ Win 7 Pro. Not actually cons, but that depends on your intended objective- a bit difficult to format by re-aligning the sectors for XP, some have reported synch issues in RAID, and possibly not your greatest selection for a C:/ drive.Getting an OEM package, you will not get any instructions, jumpers or connecting cables. It is worthwhile to note just before you purchase, that these setup easiest on Windows 7 or newer OS's.Be ready to take a break when you do the initial format with drives 1TB and larger- it'll take numerous hours.I have to wonder what the power supplies are outputting on systems where the problems of DOA are being reported. Keep in mind also, Disk Managment may not assign a drive letter to your new drive based on the sequence of your install setup, and in that case Windows Explorer/My Computer will not "see" the drive until you R/C on the drive rectangle and pick "Change Drive Letter and Paths."
