it came with nero 9 basic software and the combination works fine together. Asus is good solid quality.

DVD Player/Burner at 15.99 on weekly sale, 23 burns so far, no coaster. Have used vertical and horizontal, Win7 and XP Pro with no issues. Have not played with the included software to date, have not burned at max. speed, never do. Have switched between different media suppliers and took it all in stride. Seems solid, average for a good price.

These are rebadges of the Liteon iHAS124 A drives with the Mediatek chipsets. Takes a bit to get the jitter scanning on these working though, but it does allow quality scanning and jitter scanning. Scans aren't as good as Benq 1640-55 drive though.DVD DL burn quality was a bit disappointing compared to the iHAS124 Y. Also decent quality on most DVDs like Verbatims, but also a bit disappointing. Improved somewhat with Firmware 1.03, but here's hoping they release another firmware with improvements in the near future.

I bought two of these on sale for 16$ and they've been working fine so far. Comes with nero 8 essentials, so if you don't already own a copy of nero 8 that can be useful. Only downside I can see is that BD writers are dropping in price and that this will become obsolete in the near future

I needed a sata optical drive as my new mobo didn't have an ide port, so I bought this while it was on sale. No problems reading or writing as of yet.

I own 2 Asus DVD Writers and an Asus Blu Ray (DVD Writer) player.All came with basic software and all work as advertised.Set-up on all 3 drives was fast and simple, all worked flawlessly.For the price ($16.00) on sale, these are great.

Gone are the days when a CDr/w cost you and arm and a leg. this baby cost 15.99 on special, how could i not jump on it. i needed a new drive for my main rig and can now put my TSST Corp DVDr/w back into my secondary PC.

This OEM drive is perfect for its performance. I mean, why would you need to spend any money on a DVD drive anyway, unless you do a lot of burning and ripping...

Bought this to use in a HTPC that I was upgrading. The old DVD writer was too long to fit in the top slot of an Antec P180 mini which required a length of 170 mm or less to avoid hitting the 200mm fan. It seems a little noisier than most DVD writers that I have but it works well and seems fairly fast. No problems so far!

Ever since a batch of Samsungs went sour, I was looking for a different brand. I wanted something quiet and reliable, and that works with CDBurnerXP (which is the free burning program of choice that I put on client's machines). These Asus drives seem to be the closest to what I was looking for.

Overall I think this product is a good one. There is minimal vibrations when in use, which is good. It says the above OS compatabilities, but I am running Linux Ubuntu 10.04 and its perfectly fine too. Writing DVDs is really quiet, but reading them can be slightly noisy at times.Overall, its your average dvd burner drive! What more can I say?

Bought a couple of these on special for $20. Very good price for a SATA dvd writer. Got one for myself to upgrade from IDE to SATA, the other one for a friend.Would've preferred that it came with different bezels (like white) so that you can swap to match cases that may be another colour other than black.

Nothing special about it. Installation was very straightforward and there were no problems, even though my mobo was from a differnet manufacturer. It runs exactly as i expect it to. I got this on sale m $25, which I think is worth it. Doesn't come with any bells and whistles. It just works.

I bought this for new computer. I had no problems with installation. I Bought it because my computer has a Asus motherboard and because it wasn't that expensive. It is a lot faster then my old one but that one was quit a bit older.

Bought this DVD Drive as I wanted to get away from my old IDE drive and finally chuck the IDE cabling for good. Now, they advertise this drive as being quiet. It most certainly is - when you are burning a disc. I can barely hear the drive when it is in the process of burning something. However, when reading from a DVD, the drive is just as noisy, if not noisier, than my old DVD drive (which did not advertise itself as being quiet). Overall, no real issues with the drive beyond the disappointing noise during reads. I've burnt a handful of DVD+Rs and DVD+R-DLs with no coasters (yet!).

Was playing a 'The Big Lebowski' dvd and on layer switch it froze. Played well in other drives and dvd player.

It's a DVD burner.... bought is as it was on special.Work like any other DVD burner, they read, they write.Didn't do any research on it, neither did any testing.I didn't notice if it was quieter than other drive... normally I like to buy the sammy DVD.

it is a regular 24x dvd burner. it reads and writes. pretty quiet. no annoying software addons, no need driver/firmware to work. win 7 x64 compatible (check microsoft website). great so far

These are great burners, I use these or upper LG's based on price. Not much difference in DVD Burners anymore.

noticeably faster than other drives and looks nicer seems quieter as well just what i needed i like it alot and would for sure buy another one if i ever need another one

It reads DVDs, it writes to DVDs, the tray opens and closes, its black, you can boil it, broil it, pan fry it, deep fry it, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad... It's a DVD writer! What else can I say?

No problems using it. It is a bit noisier then my LG dvd drive but that is not really a weakness. Overall, a great buy if on sale.

Nice DVD CD drive. Came wrapped in bubble-envelope. Who needs cardboard packaging with fancy pictures? ASUS reputation for quality

Its ASUS, so definitely recommend. only thing is it might be slightly noisy when reading/writing, but i don't really care about that. ASUS makes quality products, though sometimes they can be pricey. You can probably find a cheaper DVD/CD burner, but this makes sure you will not get any problems in the future.

Quieter then my previous 22X LG DVD Burner. E-Hammer software to destroy privacy on disks is cool. It is also energy efficient. I highly recommend.
