Pros:Great Overclocker, Runs cool, Great Price, Great Overall
Comment:
Bought this CPU for a mid-range gaming set-up, easily was able to OC it up to 4.0 on air, great price for such a great cpu, which is what i've come to expect from intel now a days. This review was modfied by poster @ 04-10-09 10:36 AM

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:*With the new CPU's etc on the market you may feel like your buying something that is slow.... when it blazes

Pros:*Great for overclocking if you so choose.*Runs very cool*Most applications today aren't optimized for 4 cores anyway*Powerful*Great value
Comment:
I am a Software Engineer and while everyone talks up four cores, I don't see the benefit for home users. Even if I am running a bunch of virtual machines, how much can I really do at once? Just good marketing I think. From what I have read 4 cores don't over clock nearly as easily, nor are they as efficient. This CPU is fast. And to think that in time as my computer get's older I will go into my bios on my ASUS P5Q Pro ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 2PCI-E16 CrossFire 3PCI-E1 2PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN eSATA Motherboard, and up the speed from 3.0Ghz to 4.0Ghz with a stock fan. Pretty crazy for free.Still not sure on what is the best RAM timings to support this CPU.... Do I go for 1066Mhz, or 800Mhz with tighter timings... How high can I push the Front Side Bus... With a CPU this overclockable you feel like you **have** to join the party :-)Good value. Very happy!!

Cons:heatsink clips for the motherboard

Pros:PriceFSB Speed (1333 Mhz)Quiet with retail heatsink
Comment:
Great CPU that is very quiet and powerful. Had an hard time trying to fix the heatsink to the motherboard (LGA775 Heatsink desing fault). Not too hot at 100% of use. Great CPU with good speed that is more that enough for most people.

I've had my eye on this chip since building my computer back in March of '08. Money was tight at the time, and I was forced to opt for a older (and slower) E4500. In the toss-up between a Q9550 and this E8400, I chose to stick with the E8400, as it suits my needs and budget.$200 well spent. This review was modfied by poster @ 04-06-09 01:51 PM

Pros:Really quick, runs cool, awesome for gaming
Comment:
Awesome processor, runs really cool with stock fan (30 idle, 45 under load). Extremely happy with this product, fan comes with thermal paste already applied (though i took it off and put some Arctic 5 silver paste)Heatsink is always cool to the touch, about body heat when it is underload.

Cons:Wish I could find a 0 micron die offset chip to push even harder! Mine was 69 which is not bad.

Pros:Best bang per $ HD on the marketOverclocking potential!VCore requirements on E seriesLow temps!6mb L2 cache for gamingCan finally utilize full speed of my 4Gb 1066 Ram! (1170mHz)

Awesome processor. Added this to my setup while I wait on a more affordable OC'able i7 build. 4.4Ghz on water and staying below 50*C. Processor is better than most for it's factory curvature. Only required a small amount of CPU lapping compared to many other proc's I've lapped in the past. Decided to voltmod my board at the same time to reduce Vdroop and she's holding up nicely. 5 stars! 3. Profit!Seriously, this is an excellent part. Check out the other ohh 265 reviews, and you'll see what I mean. Currently the sweet spot for non-server systems, you can't go wrong with this part if you can stretch your budget to ~200. What really impresses me is how quiet and cool it is with just the stock cooler! I had a monster Zalman cooler all ready for it, but I never even bothered using it.Highly recommended.

I just built a new rig using this chipset and boy, am I happy I did. This has to be the best Duo Core processor for the money out there. I can multi task like never before without a glitch or crash or freeze. And this processor comes with its own stock fan and heatsink. For me, that was just another thing that I didn't have to worry about getting the right fit for my new build. Combined with my new ASUS 750i mb, corsair ram and EVGA 9800 GTX+ vid card that I also purchased here, my COD4 has never seen such high frame rates and never a screen freeze or glitch anywhere. I am also the first person in the server everytime! Thanks Newegg for offering such an incredible deal on such a fantastic processor.

Pros:Powerful and great for gaming
Comment:
I purchased this for my last build. It is a great dual core processor and will give the quad cores a run for their money on most applications and current games. If you do not do much video editing, I highly recommend this CPU. It is fantastic for gaming.

Built a machine a month ago and so far so good. Loving the speed this thing gives. Much faster when it comes to gaming than even some of the Quads. 1333 FSB is worth losing the bragging rights of a Quad.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
Cons:Was not free :)

Pros:You can feel the speed difference compared to a 2.8ghz Pentium 4 in everyday use. It's about 3 to 8 times faster depending on what you're doing. Worth upgrading if you game or do mp3 and video encoding. Multi-tasking is much smoother.
Comment:
Compared to my previous Pentium4 2.8 Ghz: the same unchanged WinXP system hardrive now boots 4 times faster; the rig consumes 100 watts less power (same GPU), and of course I can now run two instances of my MMO game without any client-side lag, unlike before. The Stepping technology is simply amazing as well, my overcloked E8400 runs at 2.7ghz in light applications and jumps to 4ghz as needed (gaming). 41C when running two Eve Online clients, Firefox and Media Player (cpuz) and jumps to 51C only when stressing (serious gaming or long video encoding). I amusing an aftermarket HSF, didn't even try the included one which looks more impressive that I would of imagined, probably would of been enough.

Cons:Canadian dollar. 6 months ago it was $175 =( oh well, not the product's fault.

Pros:Competes with a core i7 that costs hundreds more. Overclocks like a beast. What else do you need to know
Comment:
Best dual core processor for the money. E8600 and e8500 are overpriced for the bonuses you get over this amazing CPU.

Great processor and fast. This was my first processor install since pentium 4 series so I was surprised to see they did away with the pin and socket method of chip installation. Now the pins are on the socket rather than the chip and you lay the chip on top and crush it down onto the pins which seems so wrong. All that aside everything worked very well when I booted up.

Pros:fast, powerful

This processor is a very good product but may be not very easy t overclock for example: I got a chip were it could only be overclocked to 3.6 with watercooling. but overall it is a very fast and efficient chip in the dual core category.

Got my E8400 in replacement for my Q6700. I wanted something that uses less power, and easier to overclock. This E8400 I got from Tiger is a beast. Overclocked to 4.0GHz with 1.26Vcore in a couple tries. If you want an overclocking dual core, this is the one to get.

Well worth the money! Best E8xxx-series CPU you can get for the money. Priced just right ($170-180). Better buy than the E8500 which can cost an extra $20-$30 for an extra 100 Mhz clock speed... not worth it. But the E8400 is well worth the money! Great for just about anything (from games to video editing/encoding). Great for overclocking (haven't tried yet, but I've heard...) The Wolfdale CPUs (E7xxx and E8xxx series Core 2 Duos) run very cool and consume about half the power of an older Pentium 4, while giving you twice the performance! You can't go wrong with this processor!
