2 Dead Drives in 3 Months
Comment:
I bought this drive and 6 months later it failed and I could not recover anything from it. The drive was sent back and a refurb. replacement was sent back. After 2 months, the replacement has failed. I cannot trust this drive at all now for a backup drive or main drive. A co-worker who heard I had a problem asked if it was a 1TB drive and said that they had a lot of problems with them. Apparently so. Do yourself a favour and spend $20 more for a better drive!

Total HD failure in 15 months
Comment:
I bought 2 of these hard drives in October 2008. On March 4, 2010 with no warning whatsoever, one of the drives completely failed mechanically. Could not be seen or read on either PC's or Mac's, and was told by tech's that the mechanical head probably froze, so not only could they not ''see'' the hard drive, there was no way to recover the data that was on it, unless it was dis-assembled in a ''clean'' room - about a $750 expense. When the hard drive was working, it was quiet and fast - but there is a reason they are selling them so cheap... the quality of components must also be cheap. Avoid this hard drive - but if you own one, make sure you back up your data on a daily basis.

No problems
Comment:
Bought one of these nearly a year ago and have had 1 issue with it. It is part of my RAID-5 array and my power supply blew up (literally popped and sparks coming out). I played games for nearly 4 hours not noticing this drive was removed from the array. I re-added and synchronized the array and no issues since. Good drive, great deal. I have had various drives from this mfgr over the past 15 years, never had an issue with them.

So Far So Good
Comment:
I put three of these in Home Server. No trouble in the install. The server software backs it self up and checks the health of the drives. I feel if one fails the others replace it untill I can call Seagate,

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA2 3.5IN 8.5MS 7200RPM 32MB Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Has failed on me twice within 3 months

Pros:When working it was a fine drive
Comment:
Brutal drive. It is in the process of failing on me a second time in 2 months. Thankfully it is just working very, very slowly and I still may be able to recover the data on my drive. I have had all Maxtor drives before this and was hoping that their reliability would transfer over to Seagate, but no dice. I have personally have over 25 hard drives (20 are currently in my apartment) and this is the first hard drive I have ever had to RMA. Ever. The only other hard drive I had fail me was a 4.7gb quantum fireball over 10 years ago while I was in the midst of upgrading. Sadly, western digital will be my next hard drive.

Bought this drive in November '09, put it in my tower, and in Feb '10 it no longer works. Got the infamous CKDSK on startup and Win XP doesn't even recognize it now. Now trying to contact Seagate....

90 day life span
Comment:
I have bought Seagate in the past, but these 1TB drives are the worst. I have had to replace almost half of all I had purchased for my company. I asked Seagate if they would please replace it with a 750GB or 500GB drive of theirs. No can do. It is the fact I have to make sure I get good data backups everyday and when (not if) they fail, I have to try and repartition and format them. It will not let me do that. In the future, I will get the smaller drives but am going back to WD.

Cons:none

Pros:great performance
Comment:
Love the seagate harddrives. consistently performs well but I'll reserve my last star until I have this for a while. I expect it to last almost as long as my other seagate drives but since this is a larger size I'd like to see the longevity of the product before giving it 5 stars. Have this in raid mirror as my backup drive.

Great drive
Comment:
Bought this after finding out my Western Digital was sold out...again...and again...and again with various products. I mean come on, how about keeping the stock up. Anyway, so far so good. I have no problems, it's fast and quiet. Given I'm using it as my internal/operational hard drive, It goes quite well with the external Fantom Green 1 TB drive I bought last week.

Avoid the 1 and 1.5 TB Barracuda 7200
Comment:
Out of a sample of 3 100% of these have fail within 3 months. 1 was even a replacement sent by Seagate. It's pretty bad when the replacement drives die as fast as the original defective drive. A much older 500GB Seagate Barracuda in the same enclosure is still running fine, highest recorded drive temp is less than 35C and the power supply has been checked and upgraded just to rule that out. Symptoms: Drives start to make a clicking sound and access becomes painfully slow. They still pass the SeaTools SMART and Short drive self test, but will eventually fail the long drive self test - but you may have to run it more than once before it will report a failure.

So far..So good.
Comment:
Welp, I ordered this drive on Monday and it arrived at my door on Friday. Not bad for free shipping. The drive was packaged appropriately for shipment and everything in my order was as ordered. I don't know what these guys complaining about packaging are talking about, because I saw no problem with it. This drive is appropriate for any home based system, it is fast, whisper quiet and efficient. People complaining that it isn't as fast as a 10,000RPM drive are just geeks who think milliseconds matter. This drive is more than fast enough for anything you will be doing at home, from games to graphics to video editing...It will handle it all with ease. A good choice here. I installed the drive and got it formatted in no time. No errors or problems of any kind. Overall, I am happy with the service I received, content with the price and content with the time it took to receive my product. Good stuff .

Do not buy this product ! I got this, it as a replacement for my 1TB Maxtor that died 3 months after purchase. Guess what ? this one died a couple of months later. I am switchin to a different brand now. Hope I can somehow recover my data, and also have a painless RMA from seagate.

Have had two Seagate drives before, one IDE 500GB and a SATA. Expecting this to perform as well or better than them! Going to be using it to backup files for a Windows 7 upgrade and then as OS storage.

Overall seagate hard drives have treated me well. I have 4 1tb drives 3 of which I have been using for the past several years without problems. Only had to return one drive that was making some weird noises that the others were not. The drive didn't fail but it sure sounded like it was going to. Overall a decent product.

Great Drive Dont listen to bad reviews
Comment:
I have always used Seagate Drives and I purchased 2 of these 1TB drive about 6 months ago. I put them in my home server and they get tons of traffic trust me. Not a isngle issue. They run just like I would expect them to. I was going to buy the 1.5TB ones but didnt because of bad reviews now I wished I would have ignored them and got the bigger drives. A computer is just like a car if you dont know what you are doing you shouldnt be working on it and I think those who have issues are the issues them selves.
