For the price, when on sale, these are great drives. Fast benchmarks and the next rev of their 7200.xx series. Great for RAID 0 or RAID 1 installation of operating system.

Bought this Seagate drive because Seagate bought Maxtor. I hope Seagate learns a thing or two from the maxtor brand. I am still using an 80Gb Maxtor drive that showed up (not from NCIX) rattling around in a cardboard box with literally no packaging (bare hard drive I kid you not). While I have not owned this drive for very long, if it continues to operate for the next 5 years like my 80 gig maxtor I will be sticking with Seagate.

I needed a drive quick, and got this one. I just run my OS from it, but it's survived the critical first 30 days. It won't last forever, but I had a previous Seagate drive die and had good experiences with Seagate's RMA process (though I suppose I would rather not have to RMA at all) so I know it will be covered if it dies early. For the capacity, cache and seek time this drive should not be bought at full price, but on surprise sale it could be a decent buy if the WD drives are out of stock.

There are lots of folk who complain about SG drives and their reputation for failing. I bought this one to replace an old 7200 series IDE. Not because the old one failed after 5 years of daily use (it still works fine, thank you) but because this one is SATA and has a cache 16x as large as my old drive. SO its faster, quieter, and bigger for cheap. Would certainly buy again.

Bought this as part of a budget home system build. Only needed the basics as the old HDD was not large enough. So far, no issues with it slowing down. Transfering large files has been a breeze with no hiccups. Installation and formatting was a breeze. Would easily buy another one again should I see the need to.

Very fast HD, installed two of them in RAID 0 mode and they work flawlessly. Would highly recommend this product.

i own two of these drives, picked one up in store for 45 bucks on a sale in the summer and another on the boxing week sale for i believe about 47, fourth seagate drive owned and have never been let down

Its pretty quick and suprising slim since its single platter (if i remember right). i nearly thought i bought a 2.5". I had to double check the HDD itself and my receipt.

The Seagate Barracuda's are my favorite Hard drives. Ive never had a problem with them. they work as they should ,at a good speed.

Seagate has created drives in the past with some serious issues related to firmware that suddenly renders the drive to be undetectable. Many people have suffered from these issues including myself. They will not fix the OEM product issues and you may need to spend a lot of money to recover your data. I suggest buying a HDD from a different mfg. Regardless - always backup!

This is the second time I order any hard drive on this website... I have to say that this is again a great add-on to any pc, and more: for less than 50 bucks, can it get any better?

Had this drive for a little over a month and Windows Disk Diagnostic detected a S.M.A.R.T. fault on it and told me it was going to fail and replace it! Anyhow I would'nt buy another Seagate. I replaced it with a WD.

If you plan on putting this inside your desktop, totally go for it since it's very cheap, quiet, cool, and fast. I game all the time and loading times are much quicker than my friends who have other Hard drives such as Western Digital.

Bought this one to replace a 7200.11 that died.The speed is really good on this disk.As I know, the 7200.12 are really more stable and doesnt have the high failure rate the 7200.11 was known to have.will see

I have loved and used Seagate drives in the past with few reliability issues. I have one drive that is still working more than 8 years since its purchase. That has changed in my recent purchases of this particular drive. I fortunately have a good backup routine or I'd be SOL right now. I have had 4 drives die in the last year with the screeching, clicking and hammering sounds of death. Not impressed with this one. Stay away.

Great drive for a budget build or storage, it's not too noisy and the performance is what to be expected which is good for a $49 drive.

I bought this drive to store valuable photos and video files. ONLY used for occasional download of files from my laptop and desktop. Installed drive in an external enclosure. ONLY turned it on when transferring files from other PCs. Had less than 10 hours on it. Turned it on one day and got the dreaded 'pinging' noise inside the drive and all of my files were gone for good. Had less than 10 hours total running time on it. The 2 year warranty is useless. It will cost you less to buy another one. In full reactionary mode, I bought two 1 TB Hitachi SATA drives for redundant backup and a BlacX docking station. No problems so far. Don't waste your time or entrust your valuable files to a Seagate. If you do, good luck.

Overall excellent product and I will be buying more in the future. You can't beat the fact that these drivers are dirt cheap and are sufficient for there work. NCIX has the cheapest deals around.

I got 2 of these drives, mainly because they were on sale and the WD Black's were out of stock. I also ended up with 3 7200.12 1TB's the same way. The WD Black line makes great OS drives because of low access time and their longer warranty is nice.That said, I like that these drives are single platter, keeps them cool and should help them last longer. Also 500gb on 1 platter keeps large files transferring fast. A real shame about the access time but at least the 1TB models are a little better. If WD updates their Black line to 500GB/Platter I'd get those instead. Until then it's a 50/50 depending on what the drive will be used for and what is in stock when you order IMO.Now that Seagate has their 5900 line, it'd be nice to see some better performance from their 7200 line instead of this bland drive. Seeing the WD Black 2TB performance it'll be hard to look past when looking for my next storage drives.

i love seagateevery time i need a drive i go for seagate,never had a problem with any of their drive for years500 gb is way more then i need, but buying a 320 gb is almost the same pricefunny how store try to sell them locally for close to $100thanks ncix for bringing such a nice drive for that low price

I love this drive, its blazing fast and quiet too. Good price for a 500GB drive of this caliber. I would recomend it to anyone who wants a good hardrive but also doesnt want to spend loads.

So far so good. Got two of these puppies on sale, and they run relatively fast, cool and quiet. Can't complain for the price. Windows boots up pretty darn fast now. If you use Seagate don't forget to download the free Disk Wizard app. off of their site. It makes migrating windows to your new hard drive a breeze. It works great for backups also. I just wish Seagate had of kept their 5 year warranty. 3 years doesn't instill confidence in their product.

Seagate makes some of the best hard drive, affordable, reliable and above all performance. I would recommend this to older system with sata that support 1.5gb/s only... Make sure you have extra hD jumper as to limit its capacity.
