Hard to beleive that a "budget" HD now comes with 500 GB of space. Nothing out of the ordinary here. There are quicker drives out there and ones with more storage, But for just under $50 on sale, it`s hard to beat this HD.

The drive is incredibly fast (HD Tune below), even with the extra hardware and being using an IDE channel. This is a great drive at an amazing price.

Charlie Rating: Review Date: 09/01/09	Do NOT Buy Comment: This drive stopped working within 3 months of use. So I got an RMA and a second drive from Seagate. That drive failed to format. So I got an RMA and received a 3rd drive. That drive worked for about 7 days before it conked out. Today I received my 4th iteration of this drive. I installed it as a second drive in my PC running XP Pro from my trusty Western Digital 500 GB SATA drive. I followed the on screen prompts and began to format the new drive. All seemed OK until the format stopped with an error that the drive couldn't be formatted. I changed cables, motherboards, power supplies, etc. Nothing helped. Now the drive isn't even recognized by the BIOS! Note: When you RMA a Seagate drive, the one they send you is marked remanufactured. They do NOT send you a new drive. They send you a drive that has been returned by someone else and then supposedly repaired! This will be the last Seagate drive I ever purchase.

The hard drive works performs well and runs fairly quiet. I was also surprised at the size of the hard drive since i upgraded from a pretty old hard drive (seagate 80gb) that was quite big. I purchased this for a friend cause the price was quite a bit less than the Black and 500GB was more than enough. 1 platter makes this baby quiet and cool. It's pretty damn fast too. Fingers crossed about Seagate and their firmware issues. Hopefully that horror and having to return two drives due to failure are a thing of the past.

Pros:-Great Price/Gigabyte.-Single platter design allows for a small form factor for a 3.5" hard drive.-Speedy performance.-Seagate provides nice tools for their products.-Quiet. Comment: I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical with Seagate after their massive firmware fiasco on the 7200.11 series, but after some time getting this slim little drive all set up, I'm more than happy and would easily purchase more of them as the need arises.They come in at a great price for 500GB drives, have a shockingly small form factor thanks to it's single platter design, and are very quiet- my Samsung F1 is louder. So far the only regret I have is not picking up some 1TB drives from this series to replace my storage drives with.
