Bought the drive when it was on a weekly special, so far very happy with it. Use mostly Seagate drives so usually happy with how they perform and this one is no different. It's a fast drive that still is quiet and runs relatively cool.

As always (atleast for me) Seagate delivers a solid, quality product that works as expected. Highly recommended.

Out of 5 drives purchased I had 2 drives defective within one hour after OS install & one of the replacement drives died after 8 months.

I purchased two of these so that I could upgrade a RAID 0+1 array from a 250 gb to a 500 gb array in what proved to be a grueling data migration process. I already had two 500 gb seagate barracudas from quite some time ago, and it surprised me to see how much thinner they have become since. It seems like they've lost half their vertical thickness and decreased the size of the bottom PCB.So far, the RAID has had no problems; previously a WD drive had been failing and causing the array to degrade. I chalk it up to the WD curse that seems to hang over my head (that's the fifth drive failure with them in five years)

Bought four of these for RAID 1 and 0 configuration and are working fine and fast. Got them at $50 a piece and seems to be a good deal. Nice small physical size and easy to fit.

Seagate drives are good for the average user; my friend needed a bigger hd for her new computer and I took this one. So far it performs well and is very quiet.

Great deal, got it for $55 a couple months back. Have had no problems so far. Runs lightning fast. Saved 20$ instead of purchasing a WD caviar green

This is a deceptively fast drive. Scores 110MB in average read according to HD Tach which slightly better than my 7200.11 1.5TB.Unfortunately, the drive is louder than I thought'd it be (single platter is supposed to be quieter, no?). The casing is slimmer and there seems be less structural dampening. The drive is very hollow sounding but I noticed that if you place a little bit of pressure on the top, it goes away. I used some elastic to pin an eraser to it and it sounds much better.The drive doesn't vibrate much compared to other 7200rpm models.

Great price for a good drive. Hard drives are quite standard these days and this one is performing as expected. I bought a couple of these for a client and have had no problems with them at all.

I have this in a external harddrive case and it runs relatively cool compared to my other harddrives, transfer rate is decent, much faster than my old maxtor.

We bought four of these drives. Two were made in Thailand, two were made in China. The two that were made in China died within three months. The Thailand-manufactured drives are still going strong, but I don't trust Seagates anymore.

I was a long term Seagate buyer until last year. From June 2008 to January 2009, bought 3 Seagate hard drives (1 X 1Tb & 2 X 500Gb).The first one (1 Tb) was dead on arrival (DOA) and NCIX replaced it but I had to pay 15$ to ship it back to NCIX so the special price was not so special including this replacement fee.The second one stop working after 3 months. Had to ship it to Seagate (an other 15$). For the record, Seagate replace defective drive on warranty with refurbish drive which comes with only 3 months warranty. So, when like me you send a disk drive having 2 years and 9 months left on the warranty you got a refurb with 3 months warranty. It is questionable and frankly dishonest! Now the warranty is over on this drive but the drive is still working so far.And now, the last one broke last week! So, will I send it back? I don't think so. I already bought a Western Digital Black 640Gb on the Black Friday Sale that will replace the dead Seagate.From now on, I will only buy Western Digital Black series which proved to have the lowest rate of defective return. Sometime, you got what you have paid for and Seagate over the last few years has become cheap and unreliable product. Remember, Seagate bought Maxtor!

This HDD is really a no brainer for average systems, its fast, reliable (being the .12 revision, the .11 had issues), and very inexpensive for the size. I am usually a Western Digital customer, but I chose this for a customer's pc. I might reconsider my future purchases in HDDs if it works just as well on the long run for my own customers.

This is the best bang for your buck. x $50 it is a steal. Lots of storage space at a cheap price. Would buy again. It seems to be faster than my WD 320GB hd.

A 500gb is plenty for my stepson who mostly plays games and downloading other stuff. Opening a folder or game load fast. He's happy with it. It's also very quiet, which is very nice. Would buy again. A 3yr warranty is awesome.

Get it if it's on sale. I've used both seagate and western digital. Can't really say which brand is better, just buy the cheaper one. Hard disk technology is very mature today and the failure rate is very low IMO. If you have more $$$, buy an SSD for performance.

great drive, good to see the prices of HDD getting lower and lower, love the .12 family alot better then the .11 family had some issues with .11 but .12 seems to be fine, i do find the .12 family to be a little louder then .11

Bought this drive for $50 and did not find any problems with it. Built a new system with it and it ran perfect. Dual boot is fast. Pretty good deal and would buy again.

I bought one of these on the advice of a salesman. I specifically asked if these drives had a high return rate, he said no they didn't. If I lose ANY data because the salesman sold me crap, he's gonna be sorry.

Here's a nice, inexpensive place to store stuff. I use this with a n IDE to USB cable and keep all kinds of stuff backed up on it. It's been flawless so far. Seagate always makes a good product, so you can't go wrong here...especially if this is on sale. Just buy it.

the item is noisy as we can hear it. however, it is not that noisy. it is less noisy than hitachi 500gb, but more noisy than green 500gb WD. the item makes noise when spinning, while hitachi doesn't.

Excellent drive at an affordable price. I use it to store all my media and it runs great. Very high transfer rate, especially on the new Windows 7 kernel!

This drive is a big leap in quality over the 7200.11 series.This drive is much more quiet and I have no issues like I was getting with the 7200.11 series.I store loads of movies and video clips and this drive is perfect for all those big files.The drive has a 3 year warranty,which isn't as good as the normal Seagate 5 year warranty normally offered but is adequate.

I received this hard drive with the barebone kit I purchased from tiger. As soon as I saw it i knew I shouldnt use it because they have failed me so many times before. But Stupid me went ahead and used it anyways. Sure enough 6 months later Ive once again lost 500 gb of important information. This manufacturer makes junk in my opinion and will never get another dollar from me. If you buy anything from this manufacturer BEWARE
