It does what it advertises. Has a energy switch on the power cable. My energy supply gets hot when in use. Hotter than the hard drive. Not sure they all do that or just mine, but it is operating fine otherwise. Consists of a quick SATA cable.

I employed this to clone data from my Toshiba A45-S150 installed and original difficult drive to a new WD laptop drive working with the cost-free Acronis utility download by way of WD web site. Worked just fine. It cloned 17GB of data to the new drive in about 15 minutes. I didn't will need all of the included components to accomplish this so I can't speak to the quality of every little thing other than the USB adapter, but it all appears decent adequate. In case anyone owning a similiar Toshiba cares, I first attached my new laptop drive to this device, plugged it into a free of charge USB port on my laptop, then ran the Acronis installation plan (it won't set up unless at least a single attached drive is a WD product and my original HDD was not). I subsequent ran the Acronis program itself, chose "automatic" settings for clone. I swapped out my drives when prompted by the plan, and it powered correct up into windows with zero concerns. OS is winxp household SP3. None

Operates perfectly with out getting to set up any driver (Win 7 Ultimate x64), showed up in explorer, my personal computer, and so forth. The power cord is a bit stiff and had to be pushed all the way in (first it wouldn't perform until I did this). Could've been a bit significantly less (maybe around ฟ - ภ) but other than that, it works great.

Excellent device to speedily troubleshoot damaged difficult drives. It works actually nicely and the transfer rate attained is quickly -not wonderful- but rapidly sufficient for repairing or retrieving information from damaged units. It's a should for any IT Technician. This device is -in my opinion- excellent for troubleshooting, but not to be used as a permanent external difficult drive since it doesn't bring any sort of protective sleeve or carcass.

Functions as advertised. Really speedy.Plug & Play on 7 x64Compatible with quite considerably each and every non-enterprise drive created in the final 20 yearsSeems to be pretty nicely built.Good price tag. None however. Only utilized it twice so far. I tend to forget I have it till it's as well late, but when I remember it it's incredibly handy.I do a lot of repairs for laptops and older computers for family members and buddies and the approach is hugely expedited getting in a position to pull a drive and run a virus scan/defrag/whatever else on my Core i7 system as compared to their 2004 laptop.

Connected to my 2.five inch Hitachi Travelstar hard drive without any issues and was able to transfer all information. Non so far. The device comes with a power supply, but I was not able to locate a way to connect it to my hard drive. Ultimately I realized that the energy supply did not require to be connected for my application.

Operates with anything I've tried so far... Couldn't bring my dead IBM Deathstar HDD back to life... So far I am completely satisfied with this adapter, even though the energy supply and connector are sort of bulky - they get the job carried out!

can connect any tricky-dirsk or optical media drive eaily on the fly. i didnt obtain much more than 1, dang this thing is handy this factor rocks, i lastly got close to to looking via my substantial collection of old ide drives and i cant beleive how handy this factor is.currently this has been running a single of my drives for five days straight for optware&file serving on dd-wrt with my asus usb wifi router i bought right here at newegg. tends to make me want to purchase an additional external enclosure for the drive so i can have this cost-free for other uses once more.i have utilised this with a two.five pata drive in my vehicle for my usb/mp3 automobile stereo, with the drive sitting in the ashtray. HANDY

Undoubtedly the price tag. Does what it says it will. I recieved it promptly. Saved my computer as properly! A single of the cables (the IDE attatchment) was a little challenging to remove soon after working with, but most people possibly wouldn't use it anyway. Didn't lead to it any damge, just needed a tiny tug. I had my doubts at 1st, since of evaluations stating that it burned out on them promptly. With its low price, I did count on it to go out on me, but it hasn't and I've used it really a bit. I was actually able to take a difficult drive from a computer system with a virus, hook it up to my laptop with this adapter and run a virus remover on the tricky drive to clean it. Precisely what I needed and did precisely what it claimed.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Comment:
Operates very easily with most IDE drives and all SATA drives. No more power provide necessary for IDE laptop drives. No unique drivers needed in XP, Vista, Win 7. Not really cons for the tool, but see some warnings beneath. A need to have for just about every computer system techs toolbox. It can also come with integrated card reader (but that model is larger). Be cautious about power connections, often use the integrated power brick (it's good excellent). Do Not try to use the personal computer's internal power supply to power the tricky drive even though this is connected, it will blow out some thing (I managed to blew out the onboard USB controller on my personal laptop or computer). Not precise to this device, but some IDE drives need configuration as if they are Master or Slave, some will not perform on Cable Select, Some will not operate as Slave; it varies by manufacturer/model. I tend to go with whatever it is set with out of the laptop or computer, and if that doesn't work, try Master, then Cable choose.

Necessary to acquire the data off a 3.five SATA inch laptop HD. The laptop had died (would not energy on). I was going to connect the 3.five inch drive directly to my gaming rig, but thought twice about it. It just wasnt worth any threat of being with no the gaming rig if one thing had occurred. I figured for ฤ.00, I could conserve any doable headaches and wait a handful of days.Hooked it up to the drive and the new laptop devoid of working with the included application and was able to retrieve all the information I necessary. Now I have a different tool in the computer system tool box. None. Worked as advertised. External power provide and external connection to an current Pc = not having to open the case and not connect anything inside. Worry cost-free operation.

*Very Rapid Shipping - Ordered late Monday night from Canada, received the similar Friday afternoon, Thanks!*Picks up old IDE drives perfectly, I will use them for Mac Time Machine*Works on Mac (I'm employing OS X 10.six Snow Leopard)*Handy Power Switch on the power supply connector, so I don't result in surges, plugging it in reside. *Molex power connector is virtually as well snug, but this tends to make a safe connection, just ensure its in all the way just before power-up. It is also a difficult rubber shell, just be carful to connect it correctly as I could only assume some persons would be capable to force it on upside down and smoke their HDD. A great tool for any Techs workbench, as well to use your old obsolete difficult drives for archival purposes. Straightforward plug and play with all the adaptors enabling connections to two.5" and 3.five" IDE or SATA HDD's. Thanks Newegg!
