I have two of these, and they are a must for anyone doing any computer repair. I used to have cables hanging out of the side of the case, and it was a pain. The USB to IDE/SATA works great. The one thing you cannot check when using this is the SMART features when running diagnostics. However virus scans, chkdsk and copying data work excellent. I agree with the other reviewers, a MUST HAVE!

This is a great product. I have 4 spare HD's that I was going to get enclosures for until I saw this at TigerDirect! Works great right out of the box! Word of advice though, since your connected hard drive will be exposed just be careful where you set it down, I fried one HD because of a metal desk that had a ton of static electricity built up on it.

Works well. I like all the options to be able to use multiple disk types and sizes. One drawback is that you have to keep track of all the cables (power and adapter) that come with it. I'm leaving it in the box it came in until I need it.

Works like a charm! I was worried about losing info from a couple of computers that both died at practically the same time but I was easily able to copy all the info I needed to another working computer. Thanks Tiger Direct for another great product!

I'm very happy with this product. I travel to my clients' home or office to diagnose and fix their computers. I had been carrying a full disk enclosure. This is so much more convenient. I love it. The description isn't clear about whether it has a power supply for the disk drives. It does! Great for testing disks in the field.

For me, this baby is a dream come true. Believe it or not, my wife had some Microsoft Word and Publish files on an old full tower computer with MS 3.11 OS which she still used. I've been waiting a long time to get rid of that clunker. This adapter allowed me to remove her data, copy it to my laptop with Vista OS, and copy to a CD. And the greatest thing is MS Office 2007 Word and Publisher converts the data so she can use it. Goodbye clunker!!!. Great tool.

For those who do not know, any Hard Drive data transfer through USB (even USB 2.0) will seem VERY slow! Even though USB 2.0 has up to 480Mb/s transfer rate, that is a ''best case scenario'' and is less than 1/6th the speed of your average Hard Drive which is about 3000Mb/s! You will never see a USB 2.0 data transfer go any faster, because the throughput does not exist on USB. If you were expecting blazing speed from external USB drives, then you will be sorely disappointed and ought to do some research first. For hobbyists, computer tech people and those of us who build and mod our own systems, this little device is a dream. It's not built for speed, it's built for convenience. I have had mine for quite some time now, and it gets used almost daily. This is yet another example of a product that is too advanced for average users. People have misconceptions about USB speed vs. internal SATA HD speed.

I tried this item on two ide drives that worked when connected to my test computer but came up as unreadable on this adapter. I also tried it on a sata drive and it would not detect it. The sata drive may have been bad but I am positive the ide drives were working drives and this item just wouldn't read them. I returned it shortly thereafter. I have built and repaired numerous computers so I am sure that I used the product as directed and it just wouldn't work for me.

I ordered 3 of these, only 1 fired up. That one only fired up one time thought. If you want to take a 1 out of 3 chance that one of these things will work, well don't worry Tiger Direct has a very good return policy. It will only cost you your shipping.

A little more expensive than the Sabrent, DiabloTek, Xtatix, Cables To Go or Cables Unlimited versions, but well worth the extra dollars! HDs are expensive to replace and some data is just irreplaceable. Trust companies who stand by their products. You'll be glad you did.

This is a cool tool. I got it because my buddy didn't back-up his harddrive.( his motherboard went out) He was willing to pay someone to get his pictures of his newborn back so he bought it for me ( he don't know it ).A PC store where I live was charging $60.00 for the same Item. I had to see what it was, then I went to Tiger, you see who got the business!!! Just plug it in, turn it on and it recognized it as F drive in my computer. Click on it and there you have it!!! All the info you need save it and burn a copy. I might start making some extra $$$ on this little toy Thanks Again Tiger (aka your loyal customer)

I've had this product for a few months now and it has never failed me. It is really a time saver not having to open my computer to temporarily access a drive. I usually get around 30 MB/s transfer speeds which is decent for USB. Overall, it's a great tool and a very cheap way to be able to access almost any hard drive out there.

A very versatile adapter that can be used with virtual any data storage drives out there (2.5”, 3.5”, PATA(IDE), SATA and optical drive). I’m doing a lot of drives testing and this little gadget helps me save a lot of time in setting up and connecting the various drives I have to test. Performance is comparable to most of the external hard drive enclosure out there.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Comment:
After using this product just several times it began not to detect IDE drives. After several more times using it with various drives it began not to detect SATA drives either. Sometimes the power adaptor doesn't even spin up the drives. Now the only thing it still works with is 2.5'' SATA drives, and no 3.5'' SATA or PATA work anymore.
