Saved my butt
Comment:
Accidently shut off computer during disk check resulting in corrupted boot sector & fat table on my laptop. This gizmo enabled me to pull the hard drive out of the laptop, plug in as a USB drive to my desktop and then run chkdsk from the command prompt. Chkdsk fixed the corrupted boot sector and after 5 hours rebuilt the fat table. I didn't lose a single bit of data nor did I have to spend hundreds (thousands) of dollars to recover my data. Definitely worth the money, I consider this device a very valuable addition to my system maintenance toolkit.

Very handy product
Comment:
I was looking for a cable that I could use for SATA drives, but was really pleased to find this cable that works with all types, and for such a great price. The additional bonus is that it connects via USB, making this very, very simple. I definitely recommend this.

I have used this with SATA and IDE drives to format, backup and restore and secure erase without having to mount in a external case. Good performance and no failures or problems so far.

Good Product
Comment:
This works on SATA, 3.5 or 5.25 in drives. It runs good, works pretty good on speed. This will take any DVD or CD drive and make it a plug and play, or any Hard Drive and make them a plug and play also buy running them through the USB.

I Purchased this to upgrade/replace my laptop SATA drive. Worked quite well. It was well worth the price, and worked well right out of the box - no fuss, no drivers to install. A longer interface cable would be better, but 3 foot isn't bad.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Comment:
I got this adapter because I replaced my SATA hard drive with a larger one and wanted to transfer my data after loading Windows XP on the new hard drive. Well, I hooked the adapter up and Windows XP displayed the old hard drive and all of the files in My Computer. However, when I tried to copy the files, I got a message that the files were not found and could not be copied. So the adapter is worthless to me. Just out of curiosity, I tried it on an old IDE hard drive and it worked okay. But on my SATA it failed.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Cons:I guess it can run low on power with some CD/DVD drives

Pros:Works!Works with both IDE and SATA Drives
Comment:
I've bought this for IDE and SATA Hard drives and it's working. I didn't try it with CD/DVD drives but I guess it would lack power with some types so I would suggest this for hard drives.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Comment:
This device is great. It does what it says. The main reason, that I purchased it, was to do housekeeping on all the hard drives that I own. I love the on/off switch. Others don't have this feature. Only one issue is that the serial ATA cable is a little short but I bought a longer one. I have never had any issues with Vantec products.

I purchased this item to attach an external Blu-ray re-writer to my laptop. This product would not do it since the power supply is only 1.5Amp and 2Amp is needed. the drive would not even spin. For those looking to hookup CD/DVD type drives I suggest products from Sabrent which I have purchased 2 models from this site and they both work flawlessly.

I've had mine for two years now-I love it!As an A+ type,it is as essential as my stack of cd's/dvd's for installs/service.Highly recommended. For those of you assigning one star,be careful about lining up the pins on the adapter-I've done it,too! :)

got this, what a fantastic took, used on both IDE/Pata and Sata. had a little trouble with a 3.5 IDE, the drive needs to be set up as master. this makes life so easy when you have data on other drives and need to get that data to a working computer.

Excellent product. I've been using this device for over 6 monthes to backup/clone my HD's on various laptops running Win2000 & XP. It's not failed me yet. Saves time not having to put the HD into an enclosure as the cloned drives are usually installed into the laptop to ensure usability before making major upgrades to the system. Otherwise the cloned drives are stored for emergency replacement - can't live without a working computer & can't afford the time to re-install an OS and App S/W.

I have used mine to recover files from a windows HD, and files from a Mac HD. I had no problems using it with my Linux computers to get files from other OS HDs. I tried using it on a win HD that was improperly shut down with out any luck. I would like to try again now that I have a ''Rescue Disk'' in addition to the HD adapter. That HD is my neighbors and he has not worried about a retry. It is a good diagnostic/file recovery tool.

I had a stack of old drives, I was able to see all but 2 of them. After using it in Mandriva, I found out they were formatted for Linux. I am very happy with this product. The only drawback is it is a little flimsy. Be sure to set jumpers to master or single drive.

The USB powers 2.5'' drives just fine. IDE or SATA but with SATA you have the option of using the power adapter as well.

Vantec USB 2.0 to SATA (Serial ATA)/IDE Adapter
Comment:
Only used this to test a Transcend 2GB 2.5'' SSD drive, works great, just connected to 44 pin micro IDE and plugged in the USB2. Came right up on Windows XP SP2. Also tested an old SanDisk D2 Flashdrive (10MB). Don't really know how it could power a standard laptop drive since theres no way to connect the power supply to it, and USB not supposed to handle that kind of power? Comes with power connections for IDE/SATA drives, not the 2.5'' kind? Otherwise very happy so far.

Use this at least once a week as a tech at a computer store. We hook it up to our tech computer and burn the files direct off the drive w/o transfering them to our own. Or we do a direct transfer to a customers new drive. Great piece of equipment for anyone who does computer repair for other people.
